Anyone install and use this IKEA modular kitchen , FYNDIG series before?
http://www.ikea.com/my/en/catalog/categori.../kitchen/22957/
Budget friendly, but no 25 years warranty.

Kelv, if you want a kitchen that lasts, skip on FYNDIG. that is the LoqQ entry level stuff that makes people assume IKEA things are not good. You will regret the purchase unless the modules are used in a A/C environment as they wont last too long in our climate and with asian cooking and esp. washing style. maybe you can squeeze a lifespan of 4 yrs out of it but you will probably be disappointed.

Thanks. Am considering because I looking for modular that I can disassemble and relocate for rental house. Also just require a small 4ft for dry kitchen. The better quality one are METOD series, will have to check if can fit into budget.

Not all Ikea furniture can disassemble once fitted.
It'll lose it's strength.

re-assembly of the cheaper products can be tricky indeed and cause a lot of problems. i dont kow how this model is assembled. check it out but essentially at that price you are looking at one-time-assembly and then later discard after usage.

Hi everyone. Im exploring on the ikea kitchen set up for a rented apartment. the length of the base cabinets wil be 8 - 10 feet. I see there are a Koxhult series and Metod series. May I know the difference if any sifu has any idea? Those who has installed them, do let me know the quality. TQ.

Knoxhult is their new budget or economy range of kitchen cabinets.

I have installed one in a rental unit 6 months ago. Place is 10 year old 3 bed condo lived in by 8 China students.

Thus far it has held up quite well for as long as you wipe up any spills and keep it dry.

Quality wise, the Metod series is obviously better, here are some of the difference :-

1) The carcass is sturdier and uses better quality fasteners.
2) The panels of the carcass are thicker and built of a better density particle board.
3) Mounting is by a hanging rail or direct drill into wall vs Knoxhult direct drill into wall method.
4) Drawers come with Blum soft close runners vs normal ones on Knoxhult.
5) Blum soft closing hinges vs normal hinge on Knoxhult.

If it is well taken care off, the Knoxhult should have a useful service life of around 5-10 years. Oh yes no warranty unlike the Metod.

Personally, I would just buy the Metod ones and give a less expensive door front over going the route of this Knoxhult. Any wear and tear just give IKEA a call and let them deal with it under warranty which is what I did for my other rental unit that the cabinet warped, 6 cabinets were involved together with the worktop, after 2 years it started warping due to the oven. They replaced all 6 cabinets and the worktop. I called, a week later they came to see and assess the issue, 2 weeks later a lorry came to deliver 6 cabinets and a worktop, they took the old ones away.

Yes you are right but the price of a Metod is exceptionally expensive. It’s in range with some kitchen cabinets which has quartz table top. I myself did not try out an IKEA despite hearing lots of good reviews about it.

i think for the price, use solid nyatoh doors better. no wonder got companies in USA and UK make so much money replacing ikea doors with solid wood designs. biggrin.gif

Quality the main difference.
Anyway for rental unit, Knoxhult is sufficient. Base of 8-10 ft can fit few combination.
The 3 door unit with drawer is a must, length of 120cm. Then can add another 80cm + 120cm/80cm combination.
The worktop can be cut off to fit the cooker hob as well.

The photos you posted are for a kitchen that is 17.5m long.

The give away is the installation charge which is RM85 per meter run.

Thanks for that review.
I had just checked on Knoxhult in Damansara. I must add 1 more diff between the 2. Height of base for Knox is lower (suitable for Asian height) but
higher for Metod (maybe for Europeans heights).
Their white 204cm length Knoxhult starts from RM1,433, which is a good budget. I've quoted a basic 246cm (8feet)Metod without wall cabinets was RM2,200. Guess I'll have to do further analysis. Oh, I missed the Chearas Ikea's kitchen renovation last week. They gave heavy discounts to display cabinets.

Yes it is slightly lower due to the legs. I think the difference is around 4cm if I'm not mistaken.

Actual usable space isn't any different.

I was at that sale, you did not miss much in terms of the display units especially if you were after something nice or in mint condition.

Did you decide to do that Knoxhult? Definitely very budget friendly especially if you mount it yourself, it isn't difficult to do.

They sell it quietly, I frequent visit both Ikeas but, I didnt notice their banner about the kitchen sale at cheras. I could buy it for my current 7 years old unit too. Display units are good bargains.
2 matters in the knoxhult Im considering. worktop joint between 2 modular bases.
and 3/4 back panel at the wall. Prone to roaches infestation. Maybe need to do DIY add ons. I dont mind DIY due to satifscation upon completion. but I dont have much time. Sat half day n Sun cant drill either.

Oh yes, regarding the rear panel. I remedied that by cutting a piece made from plyboard during the assembly process which I salvaged from the back of an old IKEA wardrobe that was being disposed off.

Drilling restrictions is why my new place is being done by a contractor rather than a DIY job. Oh well at least I get to move in after 2 months rather than the 18 months it took me when I did my current house.
