I've tried other remote control app including the paid ones, still this is the most reliable

you can enable trackball wake up.
go to settings > system > hardware key settings > turn on "wake on trackpad press"

the free version does not have date option

desire have dual touch, in fact it only detects 2 points,
but it will behave in a weird way when you move it around,
this will affect games that requires constant multi touch navigation,
but it wont affect daily usage especially pinch to zoom,
that's why desire is not a good gaming device,
but still there are tons of games that desire can play

before you root your device? none that I know of.
even if there is, it should be listed in rooting guides already.

once your phone is rooted,
everything will stay the same,
except you will have one app installed called "Superuser"

lol, why go to XDA to find theme?

go to settings > personalise > manage themes > desktop theme > MIUI Online Desktop Theme > then choose whatever theme that you want to download

it is in the online themes,
the name is suppose to be in chinese named 卡通小怪
which is literally translated as "cartoon little monster"

Kernel is more like the central part of a ROM, but not the ROM itself,
think of it like ROM = whole computer, kernel = processor alone,
not exactly the perfect example, but you should get the idea.

Kernels mainly controls CPU clock and voltage,
they're more like the BIOS part of a computer,
while a ROM is everything else.

I got my MIUI rom from here
but there are other sources though.
to install MIUI is like installing any other ROM,
create an ext partition on your SD card,
then flash the ROM.

if you're coming from Sense ROM, of course what you'll be losing is the Sense part.
mainly the more significant loss are the Sense widgets, and Sense apps such as the dialer, etc
and... many more less significant ones, which you might or might not notice

try other themes too, there are many more good ones

why didn't you backup swype using tb?
I just restore it back and it works perfectly well.
but then again..I didn't even need to activate any license in the first place xD

kernel can be separated from a ROM,
but a new ROM will contain a kernel to make it run.
so when you install MIUI, you will be installing the kernel that comes with it.

you can only backup after you root, you do your backup before flashing a new ROM
use titanium backup to backup apps, mybackup to backup sms, contacts
for contacts you can actually just sync it to your google account,
so every time when you flash a new ROM just sign in to your google account
and the contacts will automatically synced into your phone.

yes use unrevoked to root your phone, just follow the rooting guide and you'll be fine.

its perfectly fine to install launcherpro over the default launcher, I'm doing exactly that

just follow this guide

ask again after you root your phone,
maybe you don't even have to ask by then

yes, after installing new rom all the apps will be deleted
so make sure you backup them

both are different, just try them yourself
better you start with leedroid since its very similar to the stock rom

what do you mean by proper way?
the steps are really straight forward

few things I like about the DHD rom is the magnifying glass when selecting input text,
and the stock browser where you can pinch out to select windows,
also the menu appears in smaller text size

Z rom is like HD rom, but the homescreen can rotate

I prefer LPP mainly because of its widgets
plus the ability to customize the dockbar
