Acer is using LCD while the Asus is using LED.
Both are HD screens(1366X768 pixels)
LED will be more bright compare to LCD.

About the screen, forgotten that I wrote the specs myself.
LOL, screen quality different may be due to manufacturer of the screen imo.
Eg, samsung, sony, etc...

Yeah, but most likely the quality can't be much difference and even it is, sometimes our naked eyes couldn't differentiate it.
Anyway, we can wait for the Asus and compare the screen by then. smile.gif

Both are HD screens, but as a user of Acer 5750G I'm very satisfied with it. Not sure about the Asus though.

if budget is not your concern here, i think better choose asus.

you get better gaming performance, and no offense to acer, maybe better build quality as N series is a premium line from asus. nod.gif

Totally agree with you on the build quality. Tested on AS5750G and N43JQ (older version of N series), 5750G feel so plastic, while N43JQ feel so solid. If budget allows, go for N series, else just grab 5750G, since 5750G specs & price is very attractive.

i nearby get 5750G too haha...btw get the brochure from my_nickleo post

Asus malaysia product guide updated: http://event.asus.com/my/2011/productguide/PG_Jan_Feb.pdf

Got 2 models of N53 series with i7-2630QM
1) N53SN: i7-2630QM + nVidia GT 550M 2GB, price at RM3599 drool.gif
2) N53SV: (CPU unknown yet) + nVidia GT 540M 1GB, price TBA (could be cheaper than N53SN model, also could be more expensive if it was equipped with better CPU, just wait & see)

Can't wait to get one. Probably will just get N53SV, since will not use for gaming whistling.gif

ya with SB. SB chip comes with a 2 in front and total of 4 digit instead of old 1 which is only 3

for example,
new SB i7 2630QM
old i7 740QM

Thanks alot! the A43SV looks pretty sweet too, for people who prefer 14" like me, and its slightly cheaper compared. Looks like an upgrade from A42JA.

if n53sv happen to be cheaper than n53sn which is priced at 3.6k,

then the range of price for n53sv will be in between 3-3.5k only!

OMG so tempting tongue.gif

np~ yep, looks like an upgrade from a42ja but it has slightly weaker gc GT540 instead of GT550 i guess.
the price dif is RM200 only i prefer getting N series for it has better look and higher class than A and also free mx518 mouse (dunno if dun1 take mouse can discount more anot XD) but then your right too, A43SV is lighter and portable to carry around than N53SN

A43SV - lighter, cheaper
N53SN - better gc, better design

choices, choices...i can usually give up aesthetic value for better specs...but it has better specs too haha. Problem is its heavy for a uni student like me to bring around...

you can extend, duplicate and set your external monitor as primary display smile.gif

if you game on external monitor, it might affect your game framerate (in full screen)

no problem of using external monitor.
there's a chance of framerate dropping if play in big screen. you can test gaming in full screen 720 and 1080 resolution and see the framerate difference

Is there a reasonably big difference between gt540m and 550m? i know it seems like so on notebookcheck, but not much info there about 550m in terms of fps. Would the difference be worth an additional RM200?

Framerate would stay the same if your game is set at the same resolution... Connecting to fullHD monitor doesn't mean that ur game must be played on FUllHD.. If you say 720P doesn't look nice on 1080P monitor, this really depends how big is ur monitor then.. I have a 21.5 inch fullHd monitor but I can't tell the differences between HD and FullHd for my games most of the time.. (unless I lean my head near to the screen to see the pixels lol)

Not much difference but N series has much better multimedia functions.. BnO speakers, better microphone, some say better build quality.. A series sound is very soft and only got 1 headphone/microphone jack..

not very big dif, it might be something like overclocked gt540m im just guessing~ cannot know till full benchmark test out. if u dont mind the extra weight and kind of on budget, wait for N53SV will save few hundred. i dont like A series because dont have usb 3.0 and the design is some what plain just my opinion =D

haha indeed its plain, especially compared to the sleek look of the N series. But i guess i can do without usb 3.0, can't really utilize it anyway...and i have external speakers too. what's important to me is, is N series build quality really better than A series? It being the premium model and all.

Yea typo error.. It's sandy bridge.. The Q means 'quad' core but it's left out in mentioning sometimes.. Sandy bridge dual core doesn't come out until march and the model numbers are different also..

The build quality and craftsmanship is a whole lot better than the A series nod.gif

Meaning like after I press "a", it won't come out.
Then I type the next word "b", it will show ab.
Gonna take to the shop tomorrow, or I mean later.

You should try to read up some about screen display. sweat.gif
Brand, model, type(ips),brightness, glossy, resolution, black(contrast),refresh rate and lots more does make lots different(viewing angle, brightness, black level, outdoor visibility(sunlight reflection and so on...) which your eyes will surely know... whistling.gif
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Devilt....0.html#display
*
Brand u won't know. model is just the name of it,type(ips) okay this is important since the viewing angle is sometimes essential when many are watching movies but however u won't know what the lcd of the laptop is since it never wrote out, brightness not important since normal people put at normal average, glossy or not didnt wrote also, resolution same for both the laptops referred, black(contrast) also never write out, refresh rate i guess this is Hz which comes at a price and dun think laptop LCD comes with high end ones like 100Hz and lots more does make lots different(viewing angle which is mentioned already(type, ips), brightness(mentioned already also),black level(contrast level that u said),outdoor visibility(sunlight reflection and so on...) which is mentioned by u also the glossy screen.
Yeah it all made difference but the part that eyes can see is mostly the resolution, colours and viewing angle only. Others are really hard to see with our naked eyes such as refresh rates(if not big difference)

I am falling in love with the Asus N53SN....for me, no match for the Acer 5750g......badly hoping it'll be on sale by the 28th of this month, or is it already out?

So? notebookcheck.net is there to help us brows.gif I dont like to be guinea pig. sweat.gif It is better safe than sorry. wink.gif
Glossy or matte normally does write out.
Refresh rate are normally only mentioned in mid-high end laptop where they want to touch about ''3D''.
*
Yeah, there are websites to help us. But don't think it's really helpful only if u are very fussy about the screen if u're doing stuffs like editing video/photo etc.
Refresh rates normally refer to GPU if not mistaken.

Ive found the pricing on the Asus in Australia.

https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=1083

Thats a slightly more updated version (8gb ram, bluray) than the model rumored to be released in MY soon. At over RM5000 though....too expensive, with that kinda money, I'd get an XPS!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aaand...its confirmed... sad.gif((((((((
The N53SN wont be out till after Feb, this was taken from the Asus.my facebook page:

Sek Kin Wai when will the N53SN be out to the market? it's on the product list with listed price RM3599 but no dealers for it

Is it still possible that some retailers will start selling it next week like they said?

Also looking to get this laptop when I'm back in Malaysia from 29th Jan to 10th Feb.

PS I think its already up on some garage sale thread? Just a few hours ago.

At least give out i5-2520M lar...

try to get back ur deposit... rm1k is way too much... most probably kene tipu... when i want to buy my 5750G, some sellers here ask for deposit of rm500 to confirm order. i prefer to get my stuff and give full payment. then i shop around and manage to find a shop willing to accept rm250 as deposit... waiting for 3 days is agony bcoz cant do any work... lastly i went to the shop and demand my deposit, went to senq and bought 5750g at retail price. time is money. i thought of paying too much at retail price. but now looking at lowyat plaze seller is hiking the price of 5750G up, i am quite lucky to buy at retail price which include 2 years senq warranty (no free gift- doesnt matter). now happy and can do all my work.. FASTER!!!

I think it's either a scam or a pre-order since the real thing not even out for sale yet.. No one would know what ram is inside as no one has their hands on 1 before..

if I get a Dell XPS 15 right now, would it represent value for money? I mean how much of a price cut would I be getting compared to the XPS15 when it comes out (god knows when) with SB processors? Cos right now, the current SB laptops are kinda....'weak', for a lack of a better word....unless Asus releases the N53SN before the 28th!
I really dont mind having a pre-SB notebook, as long as its fairly priced. Most of the year old ones are not really properly discounted, and theres no point paying for an outdated gadget if the newest one coming out is costing the same.

got more money? go for Asus N53SN (RM3499).

need to budget? Acer 5750G (RM2899)

btw, acer has better support and worth warranty.

usually, acer has more handsome design... hihihi...

asus.. branded quality... any else?

the difference? major price difference but very near spec.. lol

it's quite near in terms of specs
but the built quality is a whole lot different
Asus's N53SN has aluminium finishing
therefore better heat management
and thus lappie can 'survive' longer

Better support? Both are using high point services? Any differences?
Asus got international warranty, how is Acer better?
Erm, I would let u go with the design part since it's subjective
But Asus got much better build quality n much better speakers..
550M is better than 540M around 1k in benchmark probably

Aluminium doesn't mean it has better heat management..
It's the design of heat ventilation inside the laptop that matters..
Aluminium would make the laptop feel very hot instead..

No doubt aluminium is a good heat dissipator, I never deny that...

Just that the most important thing is STILL the design of the laptop/mobo that defines good heat management...

Look at last year's HP-Dv6 and MacBook Pro... They're both aluminium but they have famous overheating issues compared to other laptops of the same specs.... Reason is that they sacrificed good heat ventilation and opted for slim/sexy chassis n design...

it release heat faster that's y u will feel hot... and if it feels hot on the outside, it means it's even hotter inside the chasis...

i way to judge the build is the weight of the laptop... if it feels lighter than expected, it probably means flimsy material for heatsink...

my laptop is heavier than other 14" in the market, and i understand instantly when i open it up... copper heatpipes connecting the CPU and GPU to the fan, and a little more copper than i expected too... the whole laptop dun feel hot at all even during gaming, except for the small area near the air vent... i guess i dun mind a little more weight for better cooling...

now that reminds me, some new thermal compound for my laptop before Chinese New Year...

agree it has better gc but then dont have optimus so im guessing it might has lesser battery life and it has no usb 3.0, numpad and i prefer asus sleek design happy.gif

some said after march, some say not true maybe around february so not sure which is true sleep.gif so which 1 u go for bro? dv6 or 5750g?
*
Battery life, wait for AMD to release new driver for the dynamic hybrid graphics for dv6, battery life would be better since it could use switchable graphics by then..

Asus themselves already confirmed about the logistics problem and earliest is March only.. February is old news...

i'm very interested in asus's new laptops.. but doesn't any of them use ati gc? and will there be any asus laptop that can fight the hp elite book which claims up to 32 hours of battery life? bcos of this, currently very tempted to go HP elitebook instead... and elitebook's design is not bad either..

Because Nvidia Optimus only works for Nvidia GPUs? laugh.gif
I may be wrong but afaik ATI/AMD GPUs can only support manual switching...

Anyway, for those curious about the Elitebook, the link is here: http://www.waleg.com/techgadgets/archives/022137.html

The specs seemed very restricted to achieve the 32 hour mark... and it looks almost the same as the current Probook... I think the main difference would be the exorbitant price tag laugh.gif
Its very far from what SB laptops can do laugh.gif

ouch.. never knew that ATI gc can only do manual switching.. sux then.. anyway optimus still have it's share of problems, no?

come to think of it again.. yup.. the elitebook must be very pricey.. and hp's quality is suspect some times.. I think what I really want is Asus Sandy Bridge U series.. thin, powerful and superb batery life laptop:D

errmmm about the Asus N53SN...is there any prob with this model? cuz iam gettin 1 and the shopkeeper says there IS a prob with this model

Thing is it was never released even during the chipset problem and before it even reached stores got recalled back causing the long delay. Now its the first time its gonna be released here after the issue has been fixed so no probs.

Yea the one with fixed chipset. I just pray the ones coming out arent the faulty ones although its unlikely due to the long delay.

The Asus N53SN(revised) is available at the stores already. Just got mine yesterday at Digital Mall. Can't remember the shop's name, but it is exactly beside the Notebook Zone on ground floor.

I've got it from D-Fusion. Nice guy with good price. For the review part, hmmm. My rough opinion is that everything about the laptop is awesome and satisfying, even the optimus is working as it should cause I've already tried it with Dragon Age 2. The only problem i have with the laptop is the keyboard. It's a bit soft and bouncy. But other than that, I'd give it a 8/10. It can be 9/10 if only the bios has the options to set the Integrated graphics memory allocation. But who who knows probably the next BIOS update may have that options. biggrin.gif

If i'm not mistaken, people have been saying that the acer can't switch between the nvidia and integrated graphics.
