Brand - nothing specific
Budget - 2-3K
Specs - Basic use - charting softwares including realtime and light gaming.
Size - probably 13-15" - will buy additional monitor anyway.
Warranty - would like 3 yrs warranty.

Any recommendations?

Erm, means machine will be overly powerful for the usage, then become under utilise?
Sorry, not too IT savvy nowadays.
I browsed a few sites, saw some recommend Acer Timeline, some recommend HP, while some Dell.
Your opinion? Is there really a difference between the brands?

The better warranty would be Dell, but the 3 years can be much more expensive...
For 13'', can consider the Acer 3820TG, i3 380M + ATi HD6550M@RM2199, extend to 3 years is RM199...

Ok, Acer's 3 yr warranty is RM199 and while Dell is RM299.

I m a little concerned about warranty despite it being expensive is because my previous laptop (before this one) got fried by a power surge after 1 1/2 yrs of use only.

For Dell, it depends which model you interested, some can reach RM6xx for the 3 years..
But you get onsite warranty..

Looking at Dell, comparing RM1899 vs the RM2199 model, both Inspiron 14,
I note the difference is mainly in the processor, RAM and Video Card
the 2199 model has better processor and RAM
while the Rm1899 model has got a separate video card

Since my usage is mainly on charting - with live stream, sometimes multiples of screens with live stream, I was wondering which would be more suitable - more processing and RAM power OR a separate video card?

Maybe can consider this rather than the RM2199 setup...
http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/con...-14-intel-n4020

or this, comes with much better GPU, highest Core i3 and default 2 years nod.gif
