after i try flash back the kernel to stock kernel...my phone data lost...is it that i flash the wrong way? i use odin...flash the same way as i flash to speedmod...just insert the PDA file and flash
*
i think its due to that stock kernel is on JFS while speedmod kernel is on EXT4 ... i am not totally sure as thats my theory, maybe u can ask hardcore at the same time wait for someone here with much more technical experience to explain ... icon_rolleyes.gif

stock one uses RFS. speedmod doesn't change the file system but you can choose the filesystem you want in recovery mode (JFS,ext4)

I once used JFS filesystem and it was super smooth, smoother than ext4. You guys might want to try it. Just disable any lagfix you have(if you have one) by going to recovery mode, and then select JFS.
I don't know where he got hardcore's kernel that contains factoryfs.rfs but if he goes to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756. Download the CWM version (speedmod-kernel-k12l-500hz-CWM.zip) or odin version. Flash it. Both conatins zimage but not factoryfs.rfs & param.lfs
*
ops .. i meant RFS .. my bad my bad ... tongue.gif
i think i tried once b4, using no-RFS advanced or is it to ext4? not a fan of lagfix though, the longest lagfix i use was OCLF since the early age of SGS with eclair .. oh that bring back memories laugh.gif

QUOTE(ken2291 @ Jan 13 2011, 03:28 PM)
yes, u have to enable that. I'm using 256 all this while too, only K12L then I switched to 500Hz biggrin.gif

Guys / Gals,

I was thinking abt installing Hardcore's Speedmod.

Currently, i hv XXJPY + Darky's 8.0 with voodoo enabled.

How do i install Hardcore's Speedmod over XXJPY + Darky's 8.0??

TIA
*
Generally, u can just flash it on top without disabling the voodoo lagfix .. but the best practice is to remove it then only flash a kernel ...
rmb to enable the tweaks once u got speedmod .. brows.gif

i flashed using 803 pit file that is included with the odin 1.3 download...

wat did u do? more specific details please ... or u just only flashed the pit file? it requires a combination of files to flash and different firmware requires different pit file, for example, official asia firmwares all requires 513pit and other than that wont boot ...

to all sifu.. i already flash to darky v8.0.. it seem truly blazing fast.. but I have one issue. it regarding the camera.. when i snap capture picture.. it took about 2 - 3 seconds for the camera to save it.. then i can continue to shoot photos again.. its vr annoying me..

for example i had iphone 3gs b4, it seems iphone 3gs quickly put me to snap another photo.. is there any tweaks for me to do? please help me  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

no significant difference between iphone 3gs and my sgs, shutter speed depends on settings .. but i am not sure since i seldom use the camera much ...

QUOTE(StarSaber @ Jan 14 2011, 04:33 PM)
Guys...

It has been 1 week since I flash my SGS to Darky's v8.0 Gingerbread Edition Wipe using Odin3 v1.3 and 512.pit. My SGS show:

Firmware version: 2.3.1
Baseband version: I9000XXJPY
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 wasted@box #8

Its damn fast and Im really happy compare to the stock firmware.

But Ive two issue:

1. Battery drain fast: Its been a week now. The longest time it can last is 17 hours.

I use my SGS mostly for scrolling like nobody business, play angry birds, browse internet, sms or chat and that's about it. I seldom download app as my app now are more than enuff (for the time being, hehe).
Ive try a lot of way (including the FAQs way) to calibrate the battery but so far.... no improvement.

2. GPS useless.

I have tried the FAQs as well....but still cannot use. I can only use the google maps only which just like what i've used on my Nokia E66.

Hope the sifus can help me here.

Cheers!  icon_rolleyes.gif

17hrs with those kind of usage .. consider ok wert, furthermore u r in a custom rom sure will drain more battery compared to official roms ...
about the wifi, i think u better update ur wifi to dxjpa modem, uses less battery compared to stock xxjpy ...

QUOTE(roci @ Jan 14 2011, 05:07 PM)
btw ich78.. i also have battery drain problem.. my SGS only capable to stay up to 8 hrs only.. i dont use anything.. just checking the whatsapps oni.. during this time i use wifi connection in the ofc..

r u sure if i flash to speedmod will solve my battery issues? which frequency is recomended? 5oohz or 256 hz? hope u can help me  icon_rolleyes.gif

8hrs only? .. impossible ... i am sure something is draining ur battery, most probably background syncing such as FB, etc ... better check on those ..

QUOTE(lch78 @ Jan 14 2011, 05:38 PM)
I will always recommend to use 256hz. But if you like smoother experience, you can try 500hz. But bear in mind 500Hz will coz higher batt drain than 256Hz. however, you can always flash again, afterall it only takes 5 min to flash each time using CWM.
*
its been tested .. both 256hz and 500hz plays no significant difference in battery drainage ... some report totally the same ...

yes of course, darky's installer is now a standalone installer, can be installed from any platform ... but in ur case, best to use the wipe[ version ...
if u r new, i would suggest u stay on official asia firmware dxjpe .. play around .. slowly explore, research and get urself a benchmark then only proceed to custom roms ...
jumping too fast will only come out questions like the fast few pages ...

When you flashed the stock PDA file, did you remove the two files inside the PDA (factoryfs.rfs & param.lfs)? Only zImage is needed to have the stock kernel. The other like factoryfs.rfs is the ROM which definitely will wipe your phone.

speedmod k12m is out ... might wan to check it out ..

QUOTE(StarSaber @ Jan 14 2011, 10:13 PM)
R u sure its ok....coz ive been reading this thread and remember that somebody (same firmware like me) the battery can last up to 2 day & several hours! Thats y i tot mine not ok.

On the wifi, do i just use ODIN and then change the MODEM only or there is an actual way?

Btw, Ive already flash the speedmod k12l-500hz. Let see how long it will last this time....
*
yea one of them is me, and that was while i was using official firmwares of DXJG4 and DXJPA, even last up to 3days+ ... but for custom rom no, coz alot of customization and optimization implemented, for the speed u have to sacrifice something else ...
17hrs for me is good, and usually my phone can last even longer .... brightness set to low, no background sync, disabled data network, super duper heavy texting, roughly an hr calls daily ...
its li-ion battery, just charge whenever there is a plug and charger with u, it is safe to do so ... but dont let the battery to go under 10% which is unhealthy for the li-ion batteries ... lazy to dig out the thread about li-ion batterys, sorry dont have the source ..

QUOTE(thereefster @ Jan 14 2011, 10:54 PM)
i just enabled lagfix on my sgs, nothing changed...maybe it just me..

1st question, y do u wan to use JPO? instead of the newest official firmware of XXJPY?

QUOTE(nasrulbond @ Jan 15 2011, 06:50 AM)
i read a lot of pp in xdal mentioning about these two, OC here, UV there. tidak pandai puas hati betul with the capability of sgs. haha, and i think they really want to kill their phone tho. btw, thanks for your opinion  thumbup.gif
*
just imagine a PC ... if u overclock, it works great but produced alot heat too but no fear, u can install ventilation fans or even water cooling systems but for a phone sweat.gif .... if u underclock, phone consumes less battery but if u r a gamer or heavy user it might slow down the speed so hmm.gif ... best is stay at default clock, best of both worlds as long as its smooth, nice and frozen yogurt like ... thumbup.gif

about the JPA wifi modem update .. its a fix by hardcore ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885903
both update modem files of DXJPA and XXJPY is inside so u can switch and have a test urself ..
i am using the jpa fix without any issues on my specs below ...

Some info, through my own experience and also reading from other threads and forums ... no sources coz i read it last time ...
Linux is an OS which is superb for developers, its free source and have a very good ram management. So as Android is based on Linux, android inherited the good ram management as well. If ur ram manager shows u r using alot of ram, just leave it to the OS to handle, it is recommended not to use any task killers. The OS will try to calculate the best fit of ram usage for u, all u have to do is clearly/completely close ur app if u have done using it to free up immediate ram, even if u dont do so, after some amount of time the OS will just kill it for u but of course the app gotta run in the background thus eating up battery before it is closed. There are some custom roms and kernels that optimizes this ram handling as well, so u can try it out and can be found at XDA forums.
Another thing is safe up ram is to ensure u dont have any background sync, disable them or set it to the longest time limit it has (unless u r really active or required), this could save up battery.
Save battery by using low brightness, since i got my phone the brightness setting is manually set to around 10%. I dont like the screen being too bright as it hurts my eyes (high astigmatism doh.gif), this of course is altered at different environment or usage. Some said switching to GSM from HSDPA/3G helps too.
Smoothness of phone, is it already confirm that the latest official firmware XXJPY is the fastest and silky smooth rom, thats for those who prefers to stay on official roms, take note u do not have chinese/malay as it is europe firmware. No worries though u can extract and manually install them easily. For custom roms, most of them are based on JPY base, different developers have their taste so u may wan to try them out one by one. What i did was each week different rom till i get satisfied with one of them. For those who wants to stay on asia firmware, there is one half-customized rom based on DXJPE in XDA, so u might wan to try that out too.
Hope this helps someone. icon_rolleyes.gif

@holypredator,
once again, no one telling u a solution is because we dont know either ... and maybe u should take the initiative to search for one and not to find cases to support ur problem. Different ppl have different usage, my GPS is working flawlessly in the place where i am now, using google navigation.
GPS issue is more towards the hardware, someone here opened up his SGS and fixed the chip connection and reported to be working very good, u can either try it or an alternative, sell ur SGS, 1st u can stop complaining and doubt ppl's comment, 2nd get a standalone GPS device or the Asus Garmin phone which is cheaper or even an ip4 since i heard m'sia officially start selling it already!
Once again, u cant generalize the whole population through just a measy single sample on hand. Different manufacturer and different design has his advantages and disadvantages, android users uses both and exploit it to their advantage. cheers mate.

biasa la ... hilang for some time, then come back with complaints and say ppl no give him solutions , as if we r all both the hardware and software developers of this phone ... its a known fact that some devices have GPS problem, yet still cry over it every single time ...

btw, guys, i havent try this personally.. did anyone tried the gps fix in either sgs tools or toolbox? heard it changes the script line which helps in asian countries. I am too far away to try that and mine is working great.
