Hello All
On the violin, how do you do an upbow staccato where the bow flies off the string, and land on a second downbow note without the bow bouncing? I was told you need to change how you hold the bow. Has anyone got any ideas? Many thanks. |

Playing near the frog gives you more control. =) But it also requires you use more muscles to control it lest it bounces off again. Most importantly is flexibility of your right hand IMHO.

Many thanks for the response!
When you say flexibility in your right hand, what do you mean by that? I was looking for a video but couldn't find what I was looking for. |

well, according to my teacher, its how your last finger (pinky) is on the bow. Cause when we play near the frog, in order to not over power the sound, we will need to lift the bow slightly, or control it using that finger. erm.... a bit hard to explain like this... XD
ANYWAY, its basically how well you can control your bow especially near the frog... |

QUOTE(thj1999 @ Sep 22 2011, 08:40 AM) anyone using Rugi X voilin? is it good? may i know is house of violin selling music stand and shoiulder rest as well? how much is that? I'm using Rugi violin but I don't know about Rugi X...He has got 2 RM895 model for you to choose from so it's up to your preference. Mine was very bright and loud. Why don't you try Euro Music KL? For the music stand and shoulder rest... I suggest you not to buy from him because his stocks were old. I bought 2 music stands and 1 was rusted at the base. The shoulder rest is a cheap one but was sold at a hefty price which is not reasonable. |

current batch of the entry level violin at euro music (euro strings brand) model M100 is quite a good buy, RM345 (was RM310) but it's actually the previous M200 model (at RM500) now selling at reduced price. as far as the quality goes current batch seems to be very good.
note that it's the dark reddish brown with matt finish, previous M100 was orange color with shiny finish. |

Hi, i got a question here about my violin.
The E string, when i bow it, it produce a sound which it isn't smooth and loud. The sound got a bit crack (killing chicken) too. So is it the string need to change or other reason? or the E String not tie enough? This post has been edited by miliardo83: Oct 3 2011, 04:30 PM |

Mine is Dominants G,D,A & Gold E Evah Pirazzi. these are some suggested E strings, 1. Westminster E 2. Goldbrokat E 3. Pirastro Gold Label E 4. Pirastro Olive E 5. Peter Infeld E Platinum Good luck! |

Or you could check how much rosin is on your bow. I find that if the bow has too much rosin, while applying the same strength as I used to, the cracking sound will appear. So maybe you could try applying less pressure and see if the problem persists. If it does then it might be a string problem.

Have the same prob too, but it doesn't happen frequently, last time when I tried to show it to my teacher, but it never happen. The prob is unpredictable.
