Violinist and violist here.  Yep rare indeed. Very highly sought after for orchestra.

Nice... you can play the viola. Alto clef, hard? I used the bass and tenor clef frequently... treble sometimes. smile.gif

Yeah, it requires constant practise. Took me a while to see the bass clef as I started from classical guitar.

What I liked about viola is the sound too - it's not too sharp but warm. really want to try that one day but I never seen a viola, and rarely music stores stock up on them. smile.gif

Do you guys know price for cello strings and also the bow?

My cello cracked, can any professional fix the crack? Last time I went to some string shop, they just cover with glue.. But the crack still there.

Hi everyone!

Can someone recommend me a violin brand for beginners? What is the price range? I saw on the internet that it's usually Cremona or Stentor.

Also, for one-to-one or group teaching, how much is the cost?

Thanks.

edit: Sorry, I just realised there's a lot of info on the 1st page. Anyway, if you've advice for me, it's always welcomed. sweat.gif

Dear All,

Just wanted to ask , my daughter keep asking she wanted to learn violin.
I used to send her to keyboard class, but she lost her interest and gave up.
I'm staying in Puchong Prima , can anyone recommend me good reasonable music school for beginner?
Thanks In advance.

Hello to all string players,

I have been learning violin for the past 4 years and i have completed grade 3 abrsm exam, and i admit that i am still a beginner. All these while i have been playing alone and solo myself.

Since the exam i find that my drive has been getting lower and more slack off. Im the eldest student at the age of 28 at my learning center while the rest are kids, not that i look down on them, its just that I am advised by my teacher that I could try to find some friends to play along to motivate each other while improving.

I agree with her that I could try that, sadly in my circle of friends I do not have any active musicians. As of my skills, I know I am not qualified yet to join any junior ensembles or performance teams.

I would like to know whether are there any volunteer or practise groups that are active around Klang valley or church musical groups? I have not look around much myself, but I would gladly request to join any.
Or it could be any players who would just like to gather around to practise at some place, I do not mind to travel.

Seems like I have hit some barrier now, and I experienced that 2 years back as well.
Very much appreciated if veterans here could shed some light on my dilemma now.

And thank you in advance for any invitation and advices.

Hi I realise your post is 2 yrs old. If youre still interested to play or practise with me do pm me.

For info I have been playing since I was 10. Though I hv finished my grades I reckon I am at Gd 6 level only.

I enjoy classicals and modern pop as well.

Cheers!

Hi, I'm looking for pickups mics for violin. Having a performance soon, haven't performed for a while. Anybody here got experience in what mics to buy and where to buy it? Also looking for a wireless transmitter to a pa system.
Budget <rm1000. I looked back the old threads with icecube's replies, where he mentioned he was using fishman V200 + Pro-EQII and suggested yamaha VNP-1 pickup.

Searched around youtube also saw this suggestion http://myerspickups.com/myerspickups.html.

I'm guessing i should visit euro music and have a look first.

Deciso at Kota Damansara. They actually build violins at the shop.
