i dont think its the chip...2500k can pass 4.8Ghz easily...
try disable all power saving option in bios...and then try it again...
if that doesn't work mybe u try updating the bios if new one available...

in the BIOS easier, no OS freezing (unless too push to the limits)

overclocking need to be patient, increase with small increment and do the stability test, back in 2005/2006, only can do Prime95 which is time consuming, now, can just use LinX, it's fast and pass the 20 run tests, considered stable already. icon_idea.gif

yeah,me too....pass 20 linX is enuf for my daily usage... smile.gif
im not a hard core gamer or do folding @ home...
but linX in W7 SP1 really give me a headache... sweat.gif

what's with W7 SP1? that voltage reading? because i never use on W7 non-SP1
*
SB performance will shine in SP1 coz have AVX instruction enable,so the latest linx will take advantage of it,u easily can get 120++ GFlops with 4.8Ghz...but it will stress all core more than SP0 at the same clock speed..
my chip b4 this can stable @ 5Ghz with 1.4v in SP0...but when i change to SP1 that settings cannot work anymore....even i put 1.45-1.48v i still get BSOD...LOL

bro, ur 4.8GHz nid how many vcore to stable?

*
mine 4.8 @ 1.38v(bios)
cpu-z shows 1.376v
but i think can lower the vcore a little bit more...just im too lazy to do it... laugh.gif

Do you have internal PLL overvoltage enabled? I can't even POST if I don't enable that, and if I enable PLL I get very bizarre behaviour from the PC that BSOD while idling.
*
nope...internal PLL overvoltage is disable in my bios settings... smile.gif

i didn't do it but it allow me to do max 4.1ghz..I only try 3.9ghz game crash.
*
u should try run Linx atleast 20 loop...if pass then u can consider ur OC is stable...
not just upping the multi n add a vcore....
2500 is hardly stable at high clock speed...thats why we have a "K" version...

I run prime95 for quite sometime.  the mother board have option to OCed and set voltage automatically, i just know how to do that lol. Anyway i'm glad i bought the 2500 not the "k" if not i dunno what will happen to my RIG rofl...What is the normal full load temperature? WHat's the limit?
*
the TJmax for this proc is 98c iinm...below 90c is nice...
but if were u i will try to stay below 80c if can...thats a safe spot for me....
what cooler did u use?stock?

should be no problem coz thats the highest temp my proc can get on 100% load
in real life even 80% load is hard to utilized...unless u do 24/7 folding....
i need to enable the internal PLL overvoltage and bump some cpu PLL vcore to get it stable at this speed...SP1 really give me headache....

u can read abt it on the 1st page of this threads... smile.gif

thanks bro...whats urs?

Good job thumbup.gif , btw how much vcore for ur 5GHz?
*
thanks bro...need to put until 1.5v on this SP1 to make it work... doh.gif

Mine at 5ghz cant even boot although I put 1.6v.. In SP0 at 5ghz also need 1.5v.. Mayb is the chip to be blame
*
1.6v??did u try upping the cpu PLL vcore?i found it quite useful when u bump a little...help me to get stable @ 5Ghz with same vcore...
yeah,if thats the case...sell of ur current proc n change new one...lol laugh.gif

QUOTE(OC4/3 @ Jul 12 2011, 09:15 PM)
Actually quite acceptable temperature for the setting you are running
Nothing to be afraid of cause you won't hit that temperature in real life laugh.gif
*
yeah...i try playing games like Assasin's creed brotherhood(this game is quite cpu demanding, load between 40%-90% through the game) n Red faction for several hours,it never hit 70c... smile.gif
so far so good.... thumbup.gif

saw some people hit 4.8GHz  i5 2500K with 1.42v sweat.gif
*
2500k 4.8ghz usually around 1.36-1.38v only... smile.gif

I see.

So when the vcore just hit 1.38v while juiced 4.8GHz, aftermarket air cooling will struggle to handle its cpu temp?

*seeking some information before getting new cpu and mobo
*
it depends on what software u use to stress ur OC settings...
noctua nh-d14 is one of the best air cooler available...
if u stress using prime95 usually the temp is lower than u stress using Linx...
latest Linx+W7 SP1 will generate more heat compare to SP0...so be careful if u using aftermarket air cooler...

what about OCCT?

generate more heat from cpu?
*
OCCT also using linpack, same with linX...so the heat produced by these software are abt the same...

done with updating latest BETA BIOS for my P8Z68-V Pro... nothing new, nothing difference, it's just claimed to be "better stability" BIOS.
*
nothing new bro?no improvement at all?reduce vcore or what so ever?
if thats the case ill better stick with current bios....

on the shell, no, i haven't got a chance to test with new BIOS on LinX, later i'll update, at this moment, kind of busy with work.
*
ok bro...later post some result k...thanks flex.gif

There should be some changes in newer bios just wait for changelog.
Could be improvement in voltage control, auto DRAM subtimings, benchmark scores, etc that are hardly noticeable.
Getting my MIVE-Z within these few days as new stocks have just arrived today.
*
MIVE-Z is so powderfull.... thumbup.gif

whoah, i is jealous ok. 5GHz at 1.500VCore kaaa? what VCore you set on BIOS?

nah, the temp no need to worrylah... mine always whenever on full load LinX testing, 98 degrees most of the time.
*
1.5v bios...1.496v load(cpu-z)
98c cpu speed not throttle down?

98°C, yes throttled down, that's what i hate it when it happens... at first i thought, whoah, stable... but then looking at the LinX GFlops... doh.gif, why is the reading fluctuates.

i think it's time for me to migrate to watercooling solution after; lol... i never tried watercooling before... doh.gif laugh.gif.
*
yeah bro,its time...ur air cooling cant handle the heat anymore.... laugh.gif
