The three-digit CGPA doesn't say everything about a fresh grad. Rather, soft skill is the deciding factor, often. It is how you carry yourself during job interviews.

How's work so far? Is it related to what you have studied?
*
Work, its okay so far. Currently, still under training. After training, I'll be work on shift. The shift routine explained below

- First day 9am to 9pm
- Second day 9am to next day 9am
- Third and Fourth day is Off Day
- Cycle repeat

So basically I'll work around 14 to 15 days per Month.

Issit related? Well I could say abit, but not my major field. My job currently were Network based. I need to make sure that the network runs 24 hours without fail. I do learn abit of Networking, its a part from Computer Engineering...

Shift because we need to monitor the Network 24 hrs. What if the network die, and no one is working? There will be trouble right? Especially when it down in different timezones...

Yes, Network Operation Engineer...

Well, I wasn't involved in any university-level activities. I genuinely feel that it is a waste of time.

If you wanna get yourself involved in those activities, be prepared to work extra hard.

Are these important? I don't really think so. Like I said, I wasn't part of any university activities, and I am doing great now.

So you just focus on your study only???
Jz finished my first year as UniMAP-ian....kinda regret be part of Chinese S's committee now, felt that i learnt nth thr HAHA plus my gpa dropped on 2nd sem sweat.gif cry.gif ...didnt managed my time well even though jz 15 credit hours sad.gif
I always wondering if such activities will give you benefit in the future?
But do you agree involving in such university-level activities do help to develop one's soft skills? I mean not by jz participating but be part of Organizing Committee...

Nah... It doesn't really help much, to be honest.

But you have already answered most part of your doubt. You joined the Chinese S's committee (what committee is that anyway?) and now you live to regret it. If you have developed any soft skills there, you will not have regretted it, right?

Sorry for the late reply, cuz there is no notification that you tagged me. sad.gif

Nop I didn't. Honestly, those activities are a total waste of time, especially MPP. I have a friend who was very actively involved in MPP. But he ended up with a second lower.

Congratulations, first of all! A path filled with adventure and milestones awaits you. cool.gif

I am afraid I won't be able to answer your question regarding food and accommodation, as I have left UniMAP for at least 3 years. Many have changed since my departure, and believe me, it's a change for the better. thumbup.gif Maybe recent graduates, IvanWong1989 and Opet, and current student kelvinkhaw01 and amri94 can shed some lights on these matters?

In terms of education and the quality of lecturers, I am sure it is at par with one of the best unis in the country. Same goes to the facilities. Also, UniMAP is doing their very best to ensure that their degrees are recognised all over the country, be it private or governmental organisations.

For your info, I, myself graduated from Mechanical Engineering. To be honest, this is not a very tough course, if you prepare well before, be attentive during, and revise after every lectures. Yes, sounds very boring, but it pays off handsomely, at least for me. brows.gif Also, try not to skip any lessons. You may require some time to pick up from the last lecture and it may impede your progress. Unless you have a very dedicated study group, which shares everything, else you are all on your own.

Recently, there was a discussion about extra-curricular activities, and whether or not they are beneficial. Well, my stand was firm, and these extra activities are more of a bane than a boon. Yes, you will be wasting precious time attending these activities, and at the end of the day, you will find that you are far behind your coursemates. Do not commit, unless you are sure that you can make it.

That's what I have got. In case you need any clarifications, don't hesitate to post it here. Oh, and by the way, are you an STPM or a matric leaver?

I can totally feel your excitement! rclxms.gif Welcome to UniMAP. thumbup.gif

I graduated from Mechanical Engineering in 2007. I was lucky I got a taste of the main campus during my final year. But distance was really a problem. Had to commute daily from my hostel in Taman Semarak, Kuala Perlis to the campus in Pauh, which took 45 mins by bus. sweat.gif I believe now the main campus is already up and running with most Schools shifted over there from all around Perlis.

The School of Mechatronic Engineering is the biggest schools (biggest in terms of its number of students) in UniMAP. Mech Engin lecturers and professors there are competent and most of them know their stuffs fairly well. So no problem. Dari segi food and drinks around campus...well, typical Malay food, I would say. Nothing fancy. You can get Chinese and Indian food, and fast food in Kangar town and Kuala Perlis. thumbup.gif

Haha study smart and study hard, got it ! How does the marks are given ? I heard Utem are 60% praktikal and 40% paper. As for extracurricular activities, what kind or types are there ? I'm also not much an active person but as the only one (so far my buds still haven't check upu), I've got to meet a few people to get around.

And yup ! I'm a stpm leaver and proud to be one ! wink.gif

ouch ! shocking.gif that far ? I've briefly read the previous posts in this thread and saw hostel (kolej kediaman) are built for the students there and I didn't know the place was far apart or I've missed out some other info in this thread. Please do enlighten me wink.gif

To commute, does the hostel / uni provide bus for students or students have to find a way to get there ?

And for the hostel, what kind of things are in there ? (like kettle , mattress etc) , are there wifi in that area ? throughout your 4 years of journey there, how much do you pay for the hostel ? I've saw there are 2 types of hostel (terrace and flat type) so how many people are placed in the hostel ? hmm.gif

By the way, during your time in uni, how many students are there studying mechanical engineering or any physics-related subject ? I'm kind of interested how many engineers are born every 4 year cool.gif

The university do provide buses for students to get to classes and back during my time. Now with the new campus ready for action, I don't think the students still need to travel everywhere to attend classes.

Or the new campus has no students' accommodation? hmm.gif hmm.gif This you need to ask our current students for their inputs.

During my 4 years there, hostels are FREE! Yesiree pal! F-R-E-E!!! I didn't pay even a single cent...I think it auto deduct from our PTPTN via the school fees. thumbup.gif For more info on hostels, I hope the current UniMAP students who are active in this thread can answer you.

During my intake, there were like 60+ Mech Engin students.
