Congratulations, first of all! A path filled with adventure and milestones awaits you.
I am afraid I won't be able to answer your question regarding food and accommodation, as I have left UniMAP for at least 3 years. Many have changed since my departure, and believe me, it's a change for the better.

Maybe recent graduates,
IvanWong1989 and
Opet, and current student
kelvinkhaw01 and
amri94 can shed some lights on these matters?
In terms of education and the quality of lecturers, I am sure it is at par with one of the best unis in the country. Same goes to the facilities. Also, UniMAP is doing their very best to ensure that their degrees are recognised all over the country, be it private or governmental organisations.
For your info, I, myself graduated from Mechanical Engineering. To be honest, this is not a very tough course, if you prepare well before, be attentive during, and revise after every lectures. Yes, sounds very boring, but it pays off handsomely, at least for me.

Also, try not to skip any lessons. You may require some time to pick up from the last lecture and it may impede your progress. Unless you have a very dedicated study group, which shares everything, else you are all on your own.
Recently, there was a discussion about extra-curricular activities, and whether or not they are beneficial. Well, my stand was firm, and these extra activities are more of a bane than a boon. Yes, you will be wasting precious time attending these activities, and at the end of the day, you will find that you are far behind your coursemates. Do not commit, unless you are sure that you can make it.
That's what I have got. In case you need any clarifications, don't hesitate to post it here. Oh, and by the way, are you an STPM or a matric leaver?
