I've been wrapping my expensive hardcovers/trade paperbacks in clear plastic after reading, now considering using shrink bags. Is that good enough, or are there better alternatives?
How do you preserve your books?

I've waged war against silverfish with cloves and since I threw a handful of those into my bookcase, I am yet to see a single silverfish. So perhaps it works ... or maybe the silverfish are huddled together in some dark corner plotting revenge. This post has been edited by Blue07: Jan 2 2011, 07:27 PM |

I wrap them with plastic bags bought in giant. Was considering cover wrap but it doesn't give the book full protection from dust & humid. So i just wrap the whole book up and take it out when i want to read it. It's abit troublesome compared to book wraps, but if you want the best option is to bookwrap the book & plastic bag wrap it after use.
You can use ziplock it definately airtight and easier to take out. Added on January 17, 2011, 9:28 amNew books can't stand the natural process of aging, because they are mostly cheaply made. If you visit library or best overseas old libraries you'd see lots of ancient books esp those hardcover leather like types that have the age & weather effect but still in good condition even without bookwraps. ^ I wonder if sticking a dehumidifier (of the Thirsty Hippo variety) would help ...

Like some other people here, I actually prefer to have my books tastefully aged. There's something about yellowed pages that appeals to me.
What I do is keep them in a closed door cabinet/wardrobe. Keeps the dust out. Never had any problems with silverfish. |
