No worries there.

I'm running the test out of pure curiosity, but I'm getting some results that the test really does favor the overwhelming awesomeness power of DX11 capabilities; and I'm about to confirm that there were nothing wrong with my drivers at all thumbup.gif

And apparently Unigine's benchmark is very GPU-hungry it raep'd my laptop cry.gif

I'm finishing up soon. Gonna be rebootin' back into Linux to post stuff brows.gif

Just a thought. Could it be due to some sort of conflict or process scheduling differentiation with Compiz (if you have it enabled)?? ... or possibly due to your kernel needing some patch (probably not, since Catalyst isn't a KMS, as far as I know) ??
*
Compiz? No idea, since I'm on an Openbox session and I've already turned off xcompmgr before that.

KMS = I'm pretty sure this is Kernel Mode Ssss---- argh, I forgot. Kernel Mode-Setting? Can't remember but I don't think that's the case here since I'm facing pretty much almost the same benchmark results in Windows (if not because Windows have Dx9~11 to cheat help), so I guess there is KMS for the driver.

A'ight, I'm almost done for now. Time to reboot and compare results tongue.gif

Added on March 9, 2011, 2:20 pmAll right. Looks like my suspicions are all confirmed now.

Windows handles Unigine's benchmark use of OpenGL poorly, so the lesson is: on Windows, use Direct3D.

Maximum settings on full screen (1366x768) with no AA, extreme tesselation. Linux x64 OpenGL, Windows x64 OpenGL, Windows x64 DirectX 11.

I think with that I guess I'm cleared of my suspicions. *looks at clock* Eh, I'm late D: time to go. Thanks for the info guys!

Just wondering la, anyone here ever tried any Liquorix or Zen kernels? Just asking.

Currently trying to "play around" with Liquorix tongue.gif

Liquorix kernels work fine on Debian systems, not too sure about Ubuntu since I've never tried.
Zen kernels work fine on any system as long as compiled correctly.

It also depends on your hardware. Some hardware works better than others. For example, Liquorix 2.6.36 runs great on an old ThinkPad of mine, giving be slightly more response (less latency) and around 8 - 10% more battery life under "ondemand" scaling (even more for "powersave"), but refuses to even boot under 2.6.35 kernels due to some issue. On the other hand, I have a netbook that runs great with Liquorix kernels (2.6.34 - 2.6.37) when plugged in, but battery life takes a massive drop when unplugged, which forced me to resort to either using the vanilla kernel or a custom recompiled-from-vanilla kernel when I'm on battery power.

You mileage may vary, obviously.
*
I see. Well, the fact that I'm booting on one now means I can run it -- no wait I obviously can, since I referred to a Ubuntuforums' thread on how to get the Liquorix repo enabled tongue.gif

If there's one thing I can notice the Liquorix's version of the 2.6.37 kernels helped me with, it's with my laptop's touchpad behavior (where I have to do a different gesture to do a middle-click as opposed to Windows rclxub.gif ).

EDIT: Actully, it isn't. Probably it's a workaround on KDE's part since I was on it before I relogged in GNOME.

... And thanks to the distro upgrade I currently only have this kernel...

Anyone here running E17? Kinda new to it here. Just wanted to play around with it, but since I'm very used to GNOME and KDE methods I'm kinda lost sweat.gif

Try pclinuxos on E17, a new feel apart from gnome or KDE.

Noted, thanks biggrin.gif

EDIT: Or maybe I'll try Bodhi whistling.gif

I've tried running Unity with E17 and it's kinda ugly, probably the distro's fault, but I think PCLOS has better graphics.

Unity with E17? Does not compute to me bro.

I suppose E17 is better on its own.

Don't really like how E17's window border looks like though. But in terms of complexity I have to say it beats even GNOME and KDE rclxub.gif

Playing around with attempts to generate a custom Slitaz flavor, and got one up and running.

... Although nothing new on it, I just made it so that it comes with GIMP, Inkscape, MPlayer and some codecs...

I really need to do a checklist of what to add, since my first attempt was based on "add everything you might need on impulse, then generate an ISO of it."

For some packages that can't be obtained from its repository, I can download it elsewhere and convert it for Slitaz's use as long as it's an RPM or a DEB (now I think I just found a new love whistling.gif)

Successfully remastered Slitaz for a general-purpose liveUSB media.

... Got some quirks, though, since I have to detect the Ethernet drivers manually sweat.gif

Just some warning if any of you here uses Linux kernel 2.6.38 and is an ATI user... you need to patch your installer and this is one of the methods available.

Need some help here, I installed LMDE on my external HDD. Now the HDD boots from my laptop just fine, but I need a method of booting it on another PC especially when the PC does not allow you to change the boot order. Or, more like, the BIOS seems to ignore my HDD and just skips straight away to Windows (boo!). I need to override that currently, though.

The GRUB bootloader is installed on the external's MBR, though.

... Just ignore the fact that I need to make it a boot-anywhere HDD installation without me having to force the PC's BIOS to boot from it especially when no changes in the boot order which probably violates a rule of "You must use the computer as-is, no booting from your own HDD or something" if there exists hohohohoho.

^I don't think there's a way to get it to boot from the external drive unless you specify USB booting in your BIOS..... either that or I didn't quite understand your question (sorry, it's been a tiring day for me)
*
Well nevermind then, I... somehow got through it.

... Since I'm on LMDE...

... well, I'm already on it. I mean, turning on the "unstable" repos and... you know what's next.

(Yeah I'm playing "Break your Debian" now). whistling.gif

Just playing around with it. If it goes kantoi then... well, tough luck. Which is why I got it on my external and not on the main laptop tongue.gif

The update finished safely, but then I'm now trying to tackle the problem of GRUB not detecting my kernel images. It's the file not found error sad.gif

Added on April 13, 2011, 12:45 pmWell, to cut the story short: I eff'd up. Too many missing depends that not even the Sid repos can help me out from, it's the "No installation candidate" hell D:

'Tis okay though, at least I learned another lesson - no wait, that's the reason I set up LMDE in the HDD oops.gif

But man for a second I sure was thinking "Wow KDE is faster than GNOME o_o" before I did the "break your debian" thing.

Actually I do reckon even with its bloatedness KDE is faster than GNOME, at least my experience with LMDE and Ubuntu tells me so.

Probably because the GNOME in LMDE is a bit modified (Mint menu takes a while to load so yeah), while the KDE I have is pretty much the vanilla kdebase-workspace packages minus Konqueror (because I removed it right after it got installed).

... Now I'm tempted to start over and do things that way (keep default GNOME, but install as minimum of KDE as I can).

Overall it has been a ride thumbup.gif

LOL! I am so noob. How you guys the KDE 4.6 users manage to change the theme? searching hi and low but couldn’t find any of it  sweat.gif
*
try looking around in KDE-Look.org nod.gif

well I just happened to have some leftover themes from my KDE 4.5, so it all got carried over to KDE 4.6 laugh.gif

also in System Settings you can pick "Get New..." ranging from system colors, window decs, plasma themes, icons, plus a ton of others I lost count already laugh.gif KDE will then load the database from KDE-Look.org and you can install straight from there. nod.gif

I see, off-line preinstall themes no more, no wonder. Will try it at home. Thanks.

You can download it elsewhere and install it on your own, though. Just make sure you know what folder to install to. Like for Plasma themes it's usually in the ~/.kde/share/apps/desktoptheme folder.

@ Farkinid, G-17: It's just that the PC has been set to boot from USB devices (which includes my HDD), probably the admin forgot to reset it to ALWAYS boot from main HDD. Then again, that's one of the few PCs I can use my HDD, but then after I broke LMDE I accidentally nuked my HDD before I backed up anything on it. But there's so many "antique" things in there I don't think I can be bothered to remember and retrieve all of them...
