Ubuntu Natty Beta :
Some comments from me I still think that normal gnome 3 performs better than Unity's workspace Although , Ubuntu Unity interface is much more lightweight as compared to my Classic Desktop loaded with Docky Luv the Intellhide but made it quite hefty to switch apps as u nid to hover to top left to call the "Dock" to come out |

QUOTE(G-17 @ Jun 15 2011, 06:34 PM) Sorry it didn't work out. Pls edit the IRC post yaHave you checked out the Debian Wiki. Specifically this: http://wiki.debian.org/wl#Squeeze That part's for Squeeze, btw (what Crunchbang is based on out of the box) .... you'll need to read up a bit more if you've changed your sources to Wheezy or Sid. |

QUOTE(G-17 @ Jul 12 2011, 10:13 AM) Oh, you mean songs from iTunes? It worked Not sure, mate. I'm proud to say that I've never ever owned an iPod nor have I ever bought any music from Apple. I hate proprietary formats. Anyways, I seem to recall m4a requiring ffmpeg, so maybe you can apt-get/aptitude the moc-ffmpeg-plugin package and try. Again, I'm not 100% sure. I only trust open formats, which is why I still buy CDs and convert myself with lame, or buy flac if the record-label/artist/vendor offers it. Hmm , is the command apt-get purge gnome is more effective or apt-get remove gnome* ?or any other commands ? |

QUOTE(G-17 @ Jul 15 2011, 05:56 PM) @Zai Hmm, thats quite alot to learn Well, it's different. It can be weird. jsut install the package first and do a "man evilwm" in terminal to read the details. The Mod key layour is a bit different, though you can change it. Unfortunately, my evilWM install is built from the dev's git sourcetree, plus some additional hacks... so my ~/.evilwmrc will likely break your install. Why not read this: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=15077 It's old, but still relevant. Xbindkeys is essential if you want to launch stuff, btw. If you're comfortable with dmenu (Mod+P in Scrotwm) as a launcher, then it's highly recommended you add a binding for it in xbindkeys to launch it in EvilWM as well. Thx Wish I can achieve the same result as your's , It looks so cool |

QUOTE(G-17 @ Jul 15 2011, 09:00 PM) Well, the "result" you see is mostly down to the terminal colour-scheme (.Xdefaults/Xresources) and the custom configs for the various apps on screen. The rest is just a simple conky on top, a hint of drop-shadow compositing with xcompmgr and the Artwiz Lime font). That's all. Ahh xcompmgr EvilWM is a stacking/floating type window manager (like Fluxbox or Openbox) but you can manually float windows in ScrotWM (or any tiling wm) if you want. And btw , ive tried to retrieve the updates for testing They gave me 475MB of upgrade+new install Above that , it uses 453MB extra space I was wondering , is this a good thing or a bad thing And also , my system will be a bloat with these right |

QUOTE(G-17 @ Jul 15 2011, 09:45 PM) @Zai I know nothing about upower coz its a new install , probably xfce drag it in Not much "bloat" in there. A big part of the required space might be the transition from Xfce 4.6 to 4.8. Some of the apps you have are a bit unfamiliar to me, so I can't say. The transition to python 2.6 probably takes up a bit more space as well. After the successful dist-upgrade and reboot, you can probably run autoremove and autoclean to get rid of unwanted libraries, which will give ou back some space. Deborphan or bleachbit might be of some use as well. You can remove unwanted xorg libraries with the help of the smxi script (google it), but only if you understand what your hardware needs. Question: Did you install upower manually or does the Debian core install come with it included, or did the Xfce install pull it in? Do you have any experience with upower? If so, please share. I'm quite curious about it. So i guess i can proceed I was wondering when i saw upower , is it a same thing like a power manager or something |
