QUOTE(eq8all @ Feb 6 2011, 03:34 PM) @axxer i'm on debian xfce right now.. i installed lmde (default is gnome) then stripped it, deleted all gnome related stuff including gnome core, libs, nautilus, gdm etc then installed xfce.. maybe it depends on those that i deleted so its deleted automatically GNOME?iinm isn't that part of gnome-system-tools? but isn't there any other user & group management tool that doesn't require all that gnome related stuff? |

QUOTE(Acid_RuleZz @ Feb 6 2011, 09:08 PM) already installed, but too scared to use terminal tools like that. prefer gui. not fancy mancy gui, maybe just a simple gui to make my day easier.btw i think that user & group management thingy in gome is in gnome-system-tools package. try to install it but it tried to pull a bucketload of gnome crap like alacarte and brasero |

QUOTE(G-17 @ Feb 6 2011, 09:55 PM) Did you try "apt-get --no-install-recommends install gnome-system-tools" ? already solved by reading adduser guides, its not that hard QUOTE(G-17 @ Feb 6 2011, 09:55 PM) Stable Debian releases have never been a big thing for me, thanks to Debian's "It's stable only once it's outdated" policy. well said What I'm really looking forward to is the unfreezing of Sid main and testing sources. Let the breakage happen!! This post has been edited by axxer: Feb 7 2011, 01:40 AM |

no need to reformat lah.. if the culprit here is the new xserver-xorg after the last updates, can try install later version from experimental like G-17 said or maybe can just revert back to the old version before the updates

if its me, surely i'll choose "normal"
its obvious isn't it CODE If unsure, choose "normal" CODE │ Allowing access to the zero-page of memory weakens system security by │ │ allowing for a class of kernel security exploits that can elevate a normal │ │ user process to root privileges by using the zero-page of memory. QUOTE(khakilang @ Feb 12 2011, 11:51 AM) Have you try to repair it? What spec is your new notebook? Maybe you try to upgrade to Window 7 Pro. That is the only Window that has the least problem. i think u misunderstood me, the one that is dead is my old one, not this one that i'm curently using btw this one that i'm using is a netbook.. hp 210-1000 that came free with streamyx unipack. the preloaded win7 is struggling with its 1gb ram and intel atom 1.66ghz. theres no way i will *cough*upgrade*cough* to win7 pro. besides, if i really wanna upgrade window$, i wouldn't be here in this linux forum in the first place "repair" that i can think of now is erase this crappy win7 and install debian (or maybe just dualboot incase my lil' bro wanna play game of something) This post has been edited by axxer: Feb 12 2011, 01:19 PM |

QUOTE(scorps @ Feb 12 2011, 10:49 PM) nevermind , already got the way to do that i think acetone iso is better. much like nero. but i'm just using right-click extension in thunar to mount iso. simple and no hassle i'm using Furios Iso Mount https://launchpad.net/furiusisomount Added on February 13, 2011, 10:09 am QUOTE(G-17 @ Feb 12 2011, 09:00 PM) I've always wondered which moron at MS decided it was a good idea to have Win7 on Atom netbooks. Even XP, once you'll installed a firewall, antivirus and other monitoring/maintanence apps tools runs a but slow (and gets slower as time passes) on an Atom, so I can't even imagine how much it would struggle with Win7. O_o couldn't agree more.. with basic installation without av/firewall etc it just barely run. with av/firewall and other crap installed its struggling just to boot This post has been edited by axxer: Feb 13 2011, 10:09 AM |
