if by multiple desktop u mean multiple de, just install another de and it should appear as choice on login screen. but if u mean multiple workplace, any mainstream linux distro should support multiple workplace by default nod.gif

on debian i cannot even boot after installing fglrx driver. on fedora can install, but got nice "unsupported hardware" watermark on lower right of the screen. lol
