Depend on the wifi I think, since mine is working fine for Location at home Streamyx wifi and when I'm outside using my Nokia N8 tethering via Digi 3g. Been using maps since day 1 without any hiccups.

i heard 4.3.3 got problem. Not sure why.

Good. But some people got problem. Selinix mention it in the link I provide just now. Suddenly can and suddenly cannot.
Even Ozak also got problem.

Soo.............................................. ipad2 wifi location service is quite weird because it depends on Skyhook data base. while 3g one
have GPS. No depend on Wifi. Can lock location even that place no wifi or 3g.

It is working now! The map, mobile me etc. All can find my location.

What I do is switch OFF the location service in the setting. Than OFF the ipad2 with the ON/OFF button. Slide it to OFF. Wait for 1/2hr -1hr.

Than ON it back and the location service switch to ON too. Than it work.

Have been try 2-3x in my office. Using streamyx line. Pin point accurate my location. I guess after I switch ON again, it reset and renew the address again.

Will try at home this evening see it work or not without switch it OFF/ON. Home using maxis line. hmm.gif

I just try again using Mobileme. It can found your ipad even your ipad in sleep mode. It can pin point your location. Once I send the message out from pc, the ipad will wakeup and display the message. Even email to you that the message have been display on your ipad at what date and time.

Is this mean the ipad don't need to be wakeup/ON to be track? As long as in the range of wifi. hmm.gif

I will go back home and try again without wakeup/ON the ipad at home but between the wifi range. See my home pc detect it at what location.

Very interesting experiment. thumbup.gif

lol..if you have ipad 3g then mobileme's find my ipad will probably come useful but if you got wifi only and if got stolen, just pray that the thief is stupid enough to use wifi all the time tongue.gif
Anyway, it is somewhat useful app though.

NOTE: Can anyone give me a copy of VLC for ipad? I mean, it was dropped by apple a few weeks back but I'm sure one of you got it still right?

Read back carefully bro. You don't need to use wifi all the time. Once your iPad around any wifi range, MobileMe will detect your iPad. And do whatever you instruct it to do on your pc. Even the iPad in sleep mode.

And don't tell me the theft never try to online once with the iPad. That is really stupid. biggrin.gif

No. I didn't switch OFF the wifi in the setting. Switching it OFF of course impossible for the iPad to network.

This function is just like your phone. Once it connect to network, MobileMe will send the instruction to your iPad and detect it whereabout.

Don't tell me you get a phone but not using it to call. That is stupid to the max. biggrin.gif

if the thief wipe out everything , such as doing a full restore, before he uses it do connect to the internet (3g or wifi doesn't matter), it won't be any use, am i correct?

well for 3g one, if u switch off the wifi, you can still find the iPad. Another reason to buy 3G version. Unless of course u switch to airplane mode.

I m not sure how to perform the wipe out everything. What I m not sure is,

1)Can you wipe out everything if your ipad have been lock and cannot get in?
2)Do you need to connect to itune-->online to wipe out/restore?
3)Is the Mobileme tracking your device id rather your data?

Maybe somebody can do some this experiment to let us know. smile.gif

Mobileme have 3 instruction for you to choose, what you going to do with your ipad if lost or misplace.

1) send a message and sound to tell the sucker return back your ipad and track him down.
2) lock the ipad and prevent the sucker from use it.
3) wipe out the data and everything in your device to prevent the sucker from getting it. (if you can't get back your ipad)

When one first registered his ipad to his Apple ID, the serial number/mac address will be registered as tracking source. So, wipe out or not still can be tracked. I think. tongue.gif

BTW, not only one can track his Ipad from a remote PC, Mobileme enable Ipad Wifi to perform a self location function by signing in to MobileMe Map with your own Ipad at any public wifi AP. Though somewhat limited but useful when travel overseas for occasional self location map service at the Starbucks. rclxms.gif
