Is it ok for a rabbit to nap long hours?

Snowy used to be very alert in the afternoon. Going out to the garden and climbing onto flower pots to eat plants and sniff around.
Nowadays she just spends her afternoon napping. Moving from one spot to another.

She'll wake up for her dinner. Her appetite is still very good. Finishes her pellets and hay. BEGS for snacks/treats. Growl at my dad when he feeds her in the morning. Bit him once cos he fed her late (he forgot).

By night she'll be lying around watching tv with us. Sometimes she'll go out to the garden then come back and doze off again.

Not sure if she sleeps after we put her back into the playpen. Shes always awake when we open the curtains.

The mango tree in my house started has fruiting and it's attracting the civet cats around my area.
"Busybody" here wasn't scared and tried to see what we were looking at. She even followed dad out to check on the mangoes. doh.gif

HAHA...rabbit are curious animals. My male rabbit (Original name Bunny) sometimes nickname as Pak Sibuk. He likes to kepoh and sibuk when people change/clean cage. especially if you want to clean that spot, he will purposely stand there as though he wants to help as well. Really cute!
*
we always call her busybody or "kepoh-chi".
if got people come, she go sniff then want to lick and then want to be carried. Dad will say put her back in the pen. rclxub.gif
when I clean her pen she always disturb. Walk and climb all over and even lie on the wet floor.

Is RM 40 for 2 kg and free shipping considered cheap?
convenient too.
not to mention it smells nice.
not sure about the taste as I havent tasted it but I can say my busybody will eat the stalks/stems too. the only thing left are the bits of hay and dust. nothing is wasted unlike before where I have to throw the stalks/stems away. you can leave it there for days and she won't even touch it.

I just want to ask other owners here about their rabbits' toilet habit. Did you set where the toilet is or they did?

Mine is just over a year old. She has a cage inside her playpen. Her toilet is inside the cage.

The thing is, when she is in her pen she goes to the toilet. However, when we let her out, she goes to this corner at my study table. No matter where she is, (garden or inside the house) she will run to that spot. Even if her pen is nearer she will still go to that specific spot. rclxub.gif

At the begining when i see her going there, I always carried her back to the cage. Then I gave up and put a toilet tray there. She used it. After that, I tried moving it bit by bit but I think she realised and went back to the spot we now dub as the "Public Toilet".

Shes also very particular about her toilet. If I don't clear the tray, she'll find another spot. Same goes to the toilet in her cage. If its full (I clean every 3-4 days, depending) she'll just do it in her cage which has a tray below. There may be few poos in the pen area but not pee. My sis joked that shes smart. She doesnt want to dirty her own house so she does it in other people's house.

Thanks.. But Hay is a supplement or main dish?

should be their main. make sure they have constant supply.
its good for their intestines and chewing also helps to wear down their growing teeth.

on the first page of this thread there are lots of links on what to feed and what not to feed.

currently they stay in the house.
the fur is getting abit out of control.
its in everything.
i wanna move them outside but i wanna make sure the enclosure is safe from birds/cats
while also ventilated enough so they don't overheat
*
I keep mine outside. I place her cage at the glass door and there's a bit of overhead roof. She has a playpen and inside I put her cage and carrier. To cover it my dad bought a thick plastic sheet. Like those used in restaurants but not the transparent and thin type. She can look out from 2 sides, one is facing the inside of the house and the other is facing the driveway. The one facing the driveway has a coroplast cover which I use when it rains heavily or to keep hot air out.

Birds and squirrels/shrews always come into the house compound but shes not scared. Only when the birds chirp non-stop then shes starts to thump. We have tins tied to mango tree so we just shake them to scare them off. There's one or two stray cats around but they rarely come in.

Will update with picture later.

nice idea
i am now currently constructing a playpen behind my house. btw, thick plastic that u said, is it a polycarbonate?
maybe yours is just as same as mine smile.gif
*
Not polycarbonate. It's vinyl.

If yours is landed property you can consider a hutch like this.
Protect against cats and eagles (if your area have) yet still open for her to enjoy the outdoors.

This is how her cage looks like. The floor is wet cos I just cleaned it. The hay is in the carrier so its not so messy. There is also a towel on the floor for her to lie down.

This is when I put one side of the cover down. I secure the top with paper clips.

The playpen door is facing in cos easier for me to open from inside and she can go in and out.

its okay gnawing is good for their teeth
its nice but it depends on your to move her around, if she is used to it then its fine.
but they don't always adapt to new things.

She's used to the setting already. I once changed the cage to face sideways and she wasn't happy. She toppled over both toilet, messed her hay and pooped and peed all over the floor rclxub.gif .

I'm still looking to improve it but have to wait until I start earning.

well the longer you wait the more comfortable she is at her current situation she won't like change.

Wont be changing the setup. thinking of extending her playpen and changing/improving on the cover.
i've tried tarpaulin but after months of sun and rain it started to get flaky and was tearing so i changed to the current cover.
any suggestions?

Does anyone bring their rabbits to the vet for health check-up?
Is there a need for any test to be done?

I was told that its for "record" purposes. In case the rabbit falls sick they can check the health history.
