QUOTE(SnoWFisH @ Aug 20 2005, 04:21 AM) amenlo9:a lot of thunderstorms around ur area? how about construction? yeap,my modem become dc frequently after a ligthening struck!!so now it will be always dc and snr margin is low.i wonder how come u know that?CRC errors generally are due to the data are changed/damaged/loss en route to ur. maybe due to attenuation or routers error. each data packet has a crc checksum for the router recalculate to see if the data packet received is 100% complete. if its not, it will be discarded. basically there's nothing much u can do about crc error, most of the time the cause is due to the fault of the transmission medium. in other words, ur telephone line (most probably). interleaved - slower but less error fast - fast but might have more error these are posted somewhere in the forums but i cant recall.... i try to answer the rest of the questions later k...i doing assignment now......hard disk kena bad sector today just got replacement |

SNR means the stability of ur connection, it does not have anything to do with ur connection speed. connection speed depends on latency and bandwidth.
davidsk2002 : should be quite stable..maybe 1 day 1-2 times dc......are u connecting directly to ur phone port? amenlo9: hehe..thats the common cause |

BlitzAce : looks like telephone line problem lor...........the port quite far from ur area?
amenlo9 : there are many factors due to SNR drops, it doesn stay stable all the time, but it shouldnt have much drastic change, unless something drastic happens. unstoppable: thats good bluesky87: never liked hotmail....i think its the routing problem...since yahoo mail can open. anyway guys, try this. open ur cmd window, type ping 219.93.218.177 -t this would ping streamyx gateway infinitely, u can see whether the problem lies where. if there's a lot of timeouts here, then u knw where the problem lies. typical ping here is around 50-80ms if there's no problem, then do this ping 202.188.0.133 -t this would ping the DNS server infinitely, to test connection to DNS servers ping google.com -t this would ping google.com, to test international links basically the route path is You -> Gateway (219.93.218.177) -> DNS server (202.188.0.133) -> Destination Other DNS server ip 202.188.0.132 202.188.1.5 (my personal choice) updated first page with this info. for crc error, please do a google on it. i think u can find more accurate information abt it. (sorry im just not good at explaining This post has been edited by SnoWFisH: Sep 4 2005, 09:46 PM |
