Hi,
I'm currently working as a quality eng. with a company that does o&g pipeline welding.

I'm thinking of getting some certificates soon and was wondering which certificates would give me the most bang for my buck?

and what field should i be concentrating on to move up in the o&g industry? i understand there are many fields in o&g but i would like to know what each of you personally thinks is the best and later i will judge for myself which is most suitable for me.

all c&c welcome. thanks.

Design office. Field. Civil engineering background is not as wanted as mechanical or electrical for offshore works but we can go into quite a few departments.
*
there was a time sapura, worley & some o&g consultants/fabricators requiring structural engineers during the crude oil price surging all time high USD1xx. not sure how is the situation now.

hi all...want to ask it's true that if u have diploma in aircraft enginering u can work in o n g?
*
there are some cases where people from aeronautics background switch to oilfield services in quality dept due to their gauging & fabrication process experience.

am not sure what type of auditor u are referring to.
finance or quality system or HSE system auditor or technical engineering auditor?

u can learn more on IRCA auditor at here-->IRCA

commonly, most of the auditor's job scope covers either in ISO 9001:2008 or ISO 14001/OHSAS 18001 or API auditor (oil & gas) or licensor auditor or etc...

you must specify which one you are in.

as a grad from outside UTP, I do agree with your statement, but it's nearly correct. It depends on which company do you ask for.. is it Kencana? Tanjung? if you find from these local companies, yes you are almost correct. They employed mostly from UTP/UTM. It'll be more correct if you say, they employ base on recommendation/ alumni University (ex-students). That's what I've been told by my bosses. I'm lucky as somehow related to these UTPian. My advise, try to find MNC Oil&Gas. The least, join the consultants ie, Mustang and Sime.

no worry, don not give up, keep trying. was at consultant line in infra/building construction for 3 years b4 join o&g another 3 years plus until now. slowly build up your resume from stage by stage.
sending out many application letters & online resume when working in construction.

Usually, or at least in petronas and its subsidiaries.... For fresh grads they seldom ask technical stuff, bcos those stuff you will learn on the job, as most of the time the job is specialized, for example if you go do comissioning, you have to learn the standard method used in the organization, paperworks, reporting and such...

What they usually do in interview is to see your confidence level and conversation skills....

During my time in one of petronas subs, the scenario that i get is i am a factory onwer, and some kind of pollution happens at the factory, i need to answer to reporter and the authority, the nterviewers. They will try to provoke and turn the facts around to see if you will budge.
The 2nd one is about newspaper that i usually read if i'm not mistaken...

Everthing is possible if you want to...
I am also a 2nd lower engineering degree holder....
I started with a stint in a shipyard doing engineering...

for a start it does not matter, just keep trying. was in consultant construction 3 years plus before join o&g.

once you are into it, if u wanna climb the corp. ladder (manager/head of dept/etc), it is best with qualifications especially in mnc, unless that particular company unable to find the skills/experience it needs. so build ur qualifications & networking simultaneously side-by-side with your job.

group discussion, presentation, mock-up scenario etc.
IQ math test, english listening test, english IQ test, etc.
face-to-face interview last round.

luckily, my mind still as fresh as just grad from uni.

there is no specify prospect for a post. it is about how many wells & reservoirs are there. how much the o&g operators are willing to capex into E&P. then only jobs are created.

basically, supply & demand theory.

Welding

AWS

NDT

Nebosh

IRCA

it would be best if one with combination of welding certification (CWSIP level III) + NDT ASNT TC-1A (PT, MPI, UT, RT level III) + HSE (Nebosh) + ISO 9001/14000/OHSAS 18000 IRCA.

Simple thing like this, I've done it few months ago. You're being sarcastic.

And still, no one is answering my previous question. Flow assurance engineer vs process engineer, which one hv better career prospect? I am not sure what a flow assurance engineer will do, is it a site work,or lab work?
*
sorry, am not in the 2 postings but hope the following can assist you.
there is no such thing which hv better career prospect. it is about demand & supply at that particular timing period. do u understand the o&g economics concept?
the way you are asking is like everyone at here is owning something to you. be humble always & re-ask politely. am in the good mood to answer u today. smile.gif
u have the closing "cables" & you should try to ask them which is a short-cut.
i need to use my own capability to get a job in o&g which from 1st assessment until last interview & get the offer letter signed total almost 5-6 months.

Sample JD of Process Engineer:
Knowledge of Document Management Systems as they apply to Projects.
Knowledge of the time required for Process Engineering functions and methods used to monitor progress and manage change.
Proven ability with current industry software applications.
Experience of the needs of other Disciplines and how these link to the Process Engineering function, particularly: Piping, Control Systems, Mechanical, Commissioning, Construction and Operation.
A willingness to travel to Offshore Production Facilities is preferred.
Current survival and medical certificates are required for offshore travel.
Plant operating experience.
Knowledge of the main safety-related Codes of Practice.
Experience of the application of HAZOP, HAZID and SIL Rating to Process Design.

Sample JD of Flow Assurance Engineer:
Liaise and work with the Subsurface Team to develop reservoir understanding and assure consistency between project flow assurance models (static and dynamic) and subsurface reservoir models.
Define subsea process engineering and flow assurance work required to support subsea facility engineering decisions and deviations
Provide technical oversight and perform technical reviews of the process engineering and flow assurance studies
Coordinate corporate specialist subsea process and flow assurance studies
Assure that corporate reviews are completed as appropriate and required to secure approvals for AFD and AFE
Interpret and utilise the results of subsea process engineering and flow assurance work and specialist studies to assure alignment with the basis of design (BOD) and design premises
Assist and influence the completion of suitable BOL platform process and utility systems capacity studies
Document all work for subsequent use by operations to meet CoP CPMS deliverable requirements
Communicate performance of subsea systems to Operations and Commercial groups
Participate and provide input as required to risk analysis and modelling
Participate and provide input into HAZOP/HAZID and cause and effect reviews
Provide oversight and review of P&ID development
Assist and provide input into the operating procedures and guidelines for consistency with the project basis for design and design premise
Provide production assurance support as required to assist with the ongoing corrosion inhibitor selection
Provide technical input as may be required for commercial agreements

Assure data reliability to adherence through quality assurance
Additional to this the engineer must ensure compliance to all company’s program, contributing to meet customer service, commitment to maintain laboratory operations, complying with QA/QC, HSE, environment and regulatory standards.
Uphold the quality system to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 & 17025
Timely completion of all assigned tasks

Transfer of high pressure high temperature reservoir fluid samples
Assist in the creation of work plans and schedule for assigned tasks and projects
Assist in preparation of reports
Perform scheduled maintenance and calibration of instrumentation
Attend External & Internal training courses as required
I will be attending an interview for this position today. Upon seeing the word 'laboratory' I've imagine that it would be like a scientist job.  rclxub.gif Is it? When it says lab, it is most probably onshore right?
I'm a midget with a lot of questions, sorry..
*
i believe mostly in lab & dealing with instrumentations. but not sure if you need to go to field to collect measurement data & set up any instruments at field or not. saw about FA Engineer posting in Shell few years ago.
the keywords are PVT lab & SGS:
PVT Lab
SGS
subject back to fluid mechanics & instrumentations & measurements.
great job scope for ladies. smile.gif
i like to attend certain courses in SGS if company foots the bills. laugh.gif

just got offer to continue work at company where i've done practical training.. doing 3rd party inspection.. kinda interesting..travel to site.. learn new thing everyday (1week almost 2-3 different job/project)..
but today got call from MMHE to interview for management training program. pay higher than current company.. but will do management work.. so all my inspection cert will not be use..

dilemma now which one to grab.. money or working style..
*
almost every week we got 3rd party inspection. this job is very interesting. start this when young is very good to build one's field experience. when at field hands-on also learn about tech spec & network with various people. biggrin.gif

on pay, maybe you will want to gauge where experience or $ more important based on the percentage of your commitments. it is individual's commitment.
