thanks sungami it really helped me a lot.

i would like to ask does anybody here knows of any ROV companies who are looking for fresh-out-of-the-box ROV trainees?

I hold a Diploma in E&E (Mechatronics)

---------------------

is it necessary for me to have passed the OPITO Survival (BOSIET/FOET) prior to applying for a Pilot Tech 3 position? What about Seaman’s Book and International Vaccination Record?

---------------------

also, would it be better to start out locally or wherever I manage to get a job is fine?

I work with ROV guys such as from Subsea7, Fugro. It is a cool job since you are dealing with terrific robotic stuff.

Stress levels are how you manage it. If you keep on nitpicking on everything (I know of one guy in my department who complains about every single thing) then, you're bound to be stressed out.

Once you have the expertise and experienced (be it from the client side/consultant side) then you're good to go. Drillers I know are especially high in demand and their pay is within the 1500-2000 USD per day on a 28/28 basis or 35/35 basis. If you don;t mind going to Iraq then the pay can go up to 2500 USD per day for the drillers.

I have a couple of friends who used to work in SLB and this is his word verbatim (which relates to what sungami has mentioned in his PM), they pay you 50% higher but expect you to work 200% more. He's been mobile for the last 7 years but now, he's happy with the company he is in especially with the family life etc. Enough of being a "pelacur murahan" (his word).

At the end of the day, once you're in your late 30's early 40's, then you need to know your priorities in life. There is no such thing as company loyalty. You need to be loyal to you and your family.[SIZE=7][COLOR=red]

I am asking this question again because my msg was ignored in previous page.

May I know how's the working environment at kencana pinewell ? I was told it will be 5 and 1/2 day of work, no browsing at work , only email.

Huh? Midn telling me what you're trying to ask here?

Are you trying to ask if the petrol allowance is given to office workers only or given only to offshore engineers?

If that is your question then my answer would be ... it depends on the company.

Petronas gives Petrol allowance to the senior management (E4 and above) IIANM. Other companies I know give it to everyone (I know Talisman gives something like 700 a month plus Parking allowance as well, then again maybe it's given to those people on a different package then the locals)

Hope that answers your query.

I wouldn't say that your message was ignored, it's maybe the case that not many people know the company. I've heard of Kenchana Petroleum but not Kenchana Pinewell. So that's probably why people could not answer your query.

I am with one of the company you mentioned above. To be honest, it depends on which line you are in. If you're in drilling, perhaps you will feel stress. I'm not in drilling line, so it is oK.. I got more time to relax particularly during bad weather until it makes me bored since I got nothing to do..

Thanks for you reply. Any idea whats the working culture in kencana petroleum then ?

Also, I would like to know what is the future prospect to be involved in installation, commissioning and testing for E&I (kencana) compared to design and project handling (vendor side)? ..

I do think that E&I engineer position will involve alot of travelling compared to design and project handling job .

any comments on this?

hi all,

anyone has any idea about the career prospect as a proposal engineer?

currently i'm working as a proposal engineer in one of EPCIC contractors for O&G projects.

previously i worked for 1 & half years as an estimator for a shipyard doing FPSO projects.

frankly speaking, i'm a bit loss as how would my career should progress as an engineer especially.

as you would see, my line of work involves less technical but inclined more to commercial part of O&G projects.

my main tasks are costing, spreadsheet, tender preparation etc.

am i qualified to obtain my PE qualification based on my work experience?

any of you guys would like to share what is the career prospect for me?

how would my career progress 5-10 years from now?

does any of the clients (petronas. empmi, shell) hired people like me?

it's kinda boring with all the paperworks, proposal write-ups etc. it makes me feel less like an engineer but more of a business exec. kind of a person.

thanks y'all.

I am an estimator,
definitely, as an estimator / proposal engineer, your work is more on commercial part, for me, there are somebody to back up on the technical parts such as engineer. if you want to qualified as PE, I think you should change to technical.

mind to tell me where u work as estimator? I am looking new environment =P
I am working in an engineering contractor firm, doing steel fabrication, pressure vessels and heat exchangers.

thanks for the reply smile.gif

used to be an estimator for structural-hull discipline for FPSO conversion projects with one of the shipyard in south malaysia.

the only one with the FPSO construction capability... some people would refer it as the 'grandson' of petronas laugh.gif
i think you can guess who.

anyways, yes you are right as there are support depts. e.g. engineering, planning, procurement & subcontract etc. to porvide the technical inputs regarding any oil & gas projects.

you can always apply for a position there in my old place. with their current book order & upcoming projects, they will be searching for people to fill in various positions. gumusut is out by the end of this year. recently awarded for FPSO cendor. i think kinabalu & tapis topside still in ongoing. they got some more gafar for iraq project.

you from KNM?
