i got their info from their pamphlet during my interview. i think that's a reliable source tongue.gif

QUOTE
Perunding Ranhill WorleyParsons Sdn. Bhd., later known as Ranhill WorleyParsons (RWP) was formed as a joint venture between the leading engineering and construction company in Malaysia, Ranhill Berhad, and the largest independent engineering house in the southern hemisphere, Worley Engineering International Ltd.
anyway i found this too:

QUOTE
Ranhill Berhad wishes to announce that its 51% subsidiary , Ranhill WorleyParsons Sdn. Bhd. through its associate, Perunding Ranhill Worley Sdn. Bhd. (“Ranhill”) has on 26 January 2011 been awarded the contract for the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning (EPCIC) Alliance for the LNG Regasification Unit, Island Berth and Subsea Pipeline of the LNG Regasification Facilities Project by Petronas Gas Berhad, participated through a consortium of Ranhill and Muhibbah Engineering (M) Bhd (“the Consortium”).

Added on November 28, 2011, 1:28 pmabout the 'more under WP control' thing... i THINK so because of

a) the pamphlet points to the WP website for more info, not the ranhill website
b) the lead engineer, head of department i met are from WP, not ranhill

and by 'control' i mean RWP works more like WP instead of like ranhill. just my impression of course, i could be wrong

almost one month since i joined RWP now. very happy with the work and environment. n having a very nice boss who likes to share his knowledge is a big bonus biggrin.gif

and yeah, fresh grad pay is lower than operator companies, but from what i see, those senior engineers n up are getting much more than operators

to register with BEM, one need to have cert and transcript from Uni right? so does that mean, i need to wait until i convo? my Uni held convo once a year and that is only on November each yr.
*
my convo is in april. so to get my cert n transcript early, i need to special request from my uni. costs me AUD 40 sad.gif registering for BEM also will take a few months (NO IDEA WHY?! its not like im from some ulu uni) so that's a bummer. nonetheless my IEM friends advised me to just start collect PDP and later nego if valid or not, even though my application has not been accepted yet.

QUOTE(azraeil @ Jan 10 2012, 12:48 PM)
Excellent attitude. Gain as much experience as possible and network network network. PGCE (Petroleum Geology Conference & Exhibition) is coming up soon and this is a big one so go visit and network around. Lot's of freebies as usual.
*
may i know if networking is really useful for fresh graduate engineers? i practically know nothing so i wont be useful to anyone haha

oh i see. should soon-to-be fresh grad like me be worried about this PDP? i know that graduate engineer should register with BEM but only after i got the transcript and cert from Uni
*

QUOTE(rabloo @ Jan 11 2012, 06:47 PM)
Hi all. I'm planning to do an Msc in Petroleum Engineering via distance learning from Heriott Watt University. After careful considerations, I found this option to be the most viable for me as the tuition fee is relatively cheap (RM35k) and I don't have to quit my current job. Has anyone got any experience studying for this course? I would really appreciate if you can share your experience. What is the job prospect for graduates from these type of courses?
My target is to work with one of the service companies or operators.
Thanks!

thanks for sharing. the distance learning looks interesting smile.gif

I've been project engineer for sometime and been offer to specialize my skills so that is why they (hr la) offer me to undergo this training. Looking for strong point i rather to go for piping but not sure yet. Is those cert valuable when i'm jump off later??
*
where are u going to take the course? im currently researching good training for mech eng fresh grads. any course (and location) suggestions, guys? online courses would be better

QUOTE(heavenhell @ Jan 12 2012, 03:26 PM)
Hmm tot of doin distance learning before frm heriot watt pet eng msc as well. But im nt too sure whether i can cope working n studying at the same time for at least 2years. Much prefer 1 year ft on campus. But thats jz my view on it now, might chg in the future. One thing for sure is the pet eng course offerred by heriot watt is one of the best in uk after imperial.

Let us know hw it goes if u decided to take on tat distance learning msc smile.gif

i think i've read in this or the previous thread about heriot-watt being very good for the pet eng course, but wikipedia never highlighted it lol. interested to know how heavy the workload is. should be masters by research right?

Herriot Watt is a premiere Petroleum Engineerig school. A lot of Petronas staff got their Masters/PhD from HW. If you can get Ken Sorbie (I think that's his name) as one of your professor, you will be doing great too.
*
thanks for ur insight. would it be a big deal for a graduate mech engr like me? consultant company.

Yes, agree.

It depends on which "side" you want to work with. Options are:
1. End-user/Client
2. Consultant/Engineering
3. Operator
4. Fabricator
5. Contractor
6. Sub-Contractor

You prolly need go academic results from accredited & favorable uni's if you are applying for jobs for the first 3. The rest, it doesn't really matter. This only applies for fresh grad position.
*
may i know what's the difference between end-user/client and operator? i always thought those 2 are the same
