Just like me..even tried applying for internship.  smile.gif

Need some advice guys..(positive energy and mhyug already know this  smile.gif  )

I have received an offer with Tokuyama, in Bintulu. Semicon industry. 8 months training in japan next january. 5 years bond. Salary 2k + 100/day allowance (if I'm not mistaken). Haven't discuss yet on the job scope, increments and other benefits. If I go for this, it is going to be my first job. I have always wanted it to be O&G sector, just like my late father and my two brothers. Be the first engineer in the family, as the other only worked as ship crew and technician. If I receive this offer, then it's going to be a 5 years bond. It wouldn't be wise to turn back to O&G after 5 years, right? 5 years experience in O&G already enough to get a way better job.

I am trying not to be picky. But I really wanna make a living out of something I love doing. But I can't stay jobless anymore.......
*
If it is me,I would give it another few months to try, anyway the term of this company is way too one sided.5 Years bond with an allowance of 100/day for the training,it is bad unless they give 100usd/day,well that's another story. But the final decision is your's truly, and don't give up hope on SLB yet ok,they might have other position for you,try to call up the recruiter.

Hi All Seniors here,

Anyone know the jobscope and salary for SLB Maintanence engineer in Malaysia?
*
Jobscope,i don't know much ,but i think it has something to do with improving the whole process for maintenance.Salary is the same as FE,just that you don't get the offshore allowance since you are not going offshore anyway.

@myhug

If you think it is worth it then maybe you can give it a try or write in to them and ask whether they will do a session over here in KL

Gyrodata is one hell of a company. I think the BEST oilfield company to work for in the world. And yes, I said it.

Gyrodata is so good that even MWD & LWD engineers will quit their jobs given the oppurtunity to join them.
*
hahaha, that's is so true, people think MWD/LWD is easy, wait until they join Gyrodata,it is even easier over there doing SS/MS and GWD.The only reason most people still stick with MWD/LWD is because of the career prospect on cross training to DD or DE. Their offshore allowance is competitive enough and not to mention, this guys are also home based. laugh.gif

I want to ask that if i am going to apply for offshore position, what would i need to prepare? Do i have to get those safety training, seaman book, marine medical before i apply for the job? I think logically i should only get them after they confirm my position right?
*
Don't worry about this, most oil & gas company will provide the training after u are hired. You don't need to worry about anything.

makes me wonder how are those field engineers going to go international? there's already an abundance of them out there (from junior to senior)

Added on November 9, 2011, 12:38 pm

Only if you're qualified and you have the skill sets they can't get locally. There's no reason for them to sponsor your visa if they can get someone locally who can do the same job and at the same time support the local workforce.
*
You will be surprised if you know how many Malaysian work as field engineer outside the country... smile.gif

good to hear that..but are they still under msia office but seconded to overseas or are they permanently attached there? they must have few years of experience i guess
*
well that depend's on which oil and gas services company you are talking about,in the company I worked in,people are move all around the world for few years before coming back to their home country, this happen to both junior and senior FE.There are also many cases where experience guys ,5 years and above join another oil and gas services company, working abroad.

Normally we have

- O&G Operators(Client) like Petronas, Shell, CPOC, KPOC, Newfield, Murphy (Who owns the oil rig)

- O&G consultants like Technip, Ranhill Worley, MMCOG, RNZ, Mustang, Aker (who done the engineering and design for client)

- Drilling companies like Schlumberger, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, Transocean

- Fabrication Yard like MMHE, Ramunia, Sime Darby Engineering, Boustead (who fabricate the platform)

- Services companies (who done the commissioning, start-up, maintenance and so on)

- Vendors (who supply the equipments)
*
SLB,HAL and Baker is not a drilling company. They are services company involves in various segment such drilling, wireline, coiled tubing, testing, cementing, drilling fluid,etc...

Transocean in the other hand is a drilling contractor, they own and operates drilling rig.SLB in the other hand has drilling rigs too under one of their segment but still they are not a drilling company,it just part of their multiple services to the OnG industry.

i see. just wanna ask ur opinion, if u given chance between Geoservices SLB(mudlogger) and Delcom Oilfield(field engineer), which 1 ur prefer?
*
be reminded though that Geoservices might not follow SLB pay scale, last I check it is like 1/3 of what SLB offer to fresh grad in other segment
