Hi guys, need some kind advice, I am currently a accounting finance degree unofficial grads waiting for my final results (expecting my results by end of july)
On the 1st week of June, i applied online for KPMG Audit Associate, 2-3 days later the HR department called me for confirmation, then he say will pass to the audit manager for review (I intern there before, but its in other department - internal audit alike, so the phone interview was pretty quick and straight forward). The HR told me their peak period just over, so the manager will have time soon to review the applications. he say normally wait 2 weeks+ will receive notification if they want me.

But until today no more news, should i apply again next week? (July)

Last time when i intern there, i notice they every month also got new intakes for Audit, should i try apply again? as in undergo all the same application process again, do you think they will entertain me?

among the big 4, i would say KPMG is my only possible destination. I applied EY last Sunday, by Tuesday I receive an Email saying they wont process my application further. I also tried PWC last week but i dont put much hope because my university is not really that popular and i m not very active in those extra-curriculum activities.  sad.gif

a phone call to ask on the status of that application is more suitable imho

I disagree with your statement, and I think many in the medium firm thread will agree with me too

I am curious about one thing.

Do you carry a bag when you go for the assessment or interview?

What types of bag do you use? A hand-carry laptop bag (but not bringing the laptop) or a bag at your back (like school bag)?
*
Any bag will do as long not too big and fancy but enough to bring along a log book, ur transcripts, stationary and calculator.

the thing is many thinks it will be VERY rewarding if u can and willing to suffer years in audit and get head hunted and lead a great life afterwards, but truth is that may not be the case, it may not be worth it to sacrifice ur life and health just to satisfy some fickle minded demands.

I find some of the things and procedures are too inefficient, in business term its something like there's no continuous effort to maximise efficiency through process improvement.

Some of the long winded process and demands don't even contribute much(if at all) to the final objective of a statutory audit let alone equipping you with different skill sets and knowledge for future growth.

And YET despite all these, there are still so many people especially freshies so eager to join the external audit line in Big4.

Anyway I'm speaking in terms of working in external audit instead of other department.

NONETHELESS, WE TRY TO SURVIVE THE 3 YEARS REQUIREMENT. Hoping that in the end, it does bear that fruit.
*
May I know why 3 years? if its about working in Platinum/Gold approved firm by ACCA to complete the 3 years + PER, there are commercial MNC firms/banks that are ranked platinum/gold under the ACCA approved employers list to go for to right?

er... may i know what position can i apply to if i have 4.5 years exp in a normal firm... currently asst manager here... have chance to do listed cos also... but i dont know will big 4 take me?? even just a junior position...
*
imho I think the only reason big4 won't consider ur application is, ur too experienced for entry level/lower level but also it isn't an easy task to train experienced staff to take on senior/manager position, most of the time its not the knowledge that HR worries, rather the "how we do things around here" that is hard to train for staff jumping from another firm.

nope. not at all.

its a big distinction between having a CA title, against 3 yrs exp in Big 4.

employers go crazy about it.

*
mind sharing where do these 3 yrs experience external auditors go to after achieving their target? Did they really become so sorted after? is it really better than just start of early in mnc and grow from there?

Cuz audit and commercial is 2 different things, being good and experienced in auditing doesn't make u great in commercial line.

Then if it's inefficient, why are the big4 partners still keeping to this..unethical work ethic?

What's the use of learning of so much business process improvements in P3, improving internal controls in f8/p7, when it is hardly applied? Yes it is in theory, but shouldn't we apply what we;or they, are preaching?

*
Yes majority human dislike and try to avoid changes, especially the older higher up people who make call the shots, I don't know about other firms but so far the firms I've been, people tend to keep to what's the usual procedure and not what is the most effective and efficient way to get to the final objective of an statutory audit and at the same time fulfilling relevant auditing standards.

Maybe I'm wrong to say this as maybe external auditing isn't the same as running a business where people find ways to improve internal processes to do things faster and better. Maybe I'm also still too inexperience to comment on this matter as I have not reach the level high enough to take in other things into consideration.

I agreed.

But I have seen it for several months consecutively.

Do you think it is good for malaysian to work in singapore?
*
for me I'm willing to go experience it first hand. Cuz some things can't be fully explained and understood until you experience it first hand and then you can make up ur own conclusion which best suit yourself.

Is bureaucracy very common in big4? Like mass amount of administrative work, paper work, double work, inefficiency, complexity, inflexibility?

haha, just finding the amount of non-core and bureaucratic task is insane and inefficient to the overall productivity. Might try to eke out as long as possible before deciding do something more direct and productive.

Do you have seniors, or friends? Reach out! Network!
You'll need the network even after you joined.
*
Yes but network with lower level staff don't really contribute anything as they are in no position to recommend you to HR.

hey guys, if you have a degree but with around/less 3.0 cgpa, but have an ACCA cert.

Do they still bother about the degree?
*
Depends on the firm, I know that EY and PWC even takes into account ur ACCA marks scored and how many attempts rather than just seeing pass or fail.

FYI my marks are borderline pass and with 1 fail even I joined them

not sure whether they really takes those marks and attempt into consideration
*
Maybe KL and Penang different?

But there must be a reason why they would call up and request for the results with marks when you have already provided them with the pass result without marks..

Hi,

I left 6 ACCA papers, without any bachelors degree.
should i starting at a small accounting firm? or go for internship at big4 and hope for a job offer from them after internship?
Is it true that the audit procedure in small firm and big4 is different? Will the big4 discount my experience in small firm if i enter big4 in future?

Thank guys! smile.gif smile.gif
*
Yes audit procedure slightly varies between each firm of similar size and even more so between firm of different size.
Yes they will definitely discount your experience.

just get the efficient one. besides, who cares about all this friendliness etc when the job keeps being delayed becoz of inefficiency
*
I beg to differ...

Snr/Mnagers normally prefer one with both attributes..

Ever heard of being hardworking yet unnoticed? Some staff efforts might go unnoticed when comes to appraisal as snr or manager don't know much about that staff cuz he/she too quiet so hard to judge.

Besides someone who quietly do their work might end up doing unnecessary work or left out required work due to lack of communication.

ermm.. i dont think according to the question, there was even a choice for both  sweat.gif

if both should be the answer, might as well not even ask coz everybody would've wanted both attributes.
*
haha just my 2 cents to remind that hardworking quietly do your work don't necessary result in good appraisal.. Just don't want people to be disappointed after all the effort put in but went unnoticed.
