From the looks of pics posted here and elsewhere so far, the interior lighting at klims looks screwed up... Tungsten mixed with fluorescent. Ugh... Reminds me of a cheapo restaurant wedding dinner shoot. Worst kinda lighting imaginable. I think I'll give it a pass like that. Will take too much effort with lighting just to make anything look even remotely good. Added on December 4, 2010, 11:38 pmQUOTE(Jurlique @ Dec 4 2010, 11:41 AM) I am asking this because my DSLR comes with a free SD card, but they only give me the Lexar brand 8GB card which I found abit slow when I take pictures at very low ISO of 100 to 200 (and sometimes when at very high aperture like f29).. I need to wait at least 10 to 20 secs before I can take another picture. Dunno whether is my camera faulty or slow memory card problem. There is nothing wrong. Its called long exposure noise reduction. Also known as dark frame subtraction. What the camera does is take a second exposure with the shutter shut, and use that frame to reduce noise on your long exposure shot. It slows down your shot to shot time by twice the shutter speed you use. This post has been edited by adriancs: Dec 4 2010, 11:38 PM

QUOTE(lpyycy @ Dec 4 2010, 12:24 PM) If you needed to ask, then yes it will be hard. Use bounced flash off the walls or ceiling if you're indoors, or off camera flash, with a softbox if outdoors. If you're on holiday, just forget it and take some snapshots. Or just hope the ambient lighting is good enough and shoot without flash. 35/1.8 or 50/1.8 will be more than enough.

I'll head there with 24, 50 and 105. See how it goes. Looks like the big fat zooms will have to stay home...

I kinds like the dreamy hazy look of big aperture lenses shot wide open. Gives very good glowing skin tones and hides the imperfections in the skin.
The only thing I don't like is the polygonal bokeh look of the straight aperture on the older lenses. The 85/1.4, 105, 135 and 70-200 gives very nice and much better IMO rounded soft blur circles.

QUOTE(celciuz @ Dec 6 2010, 12:58 AM) Probably not demb, gonna go direct with diffuser to aim at the face only. Demb spread all over :S. Bragging rights to carry those big guns? Lulz. I can't be bothered to carry my 70200 around ~_~ But I think its possible to shoot at f/2.8 without flash. You can go as low as 1/30s with the help of VR. It is possible. But difficult. Events indoors where the subject moves? 1/30s and VR whatnot is not going to save you...

QUOTE(ronaldlee007 @ Dec 8 2010, 01:04 PM) Hallo, do u test it at darker environment? In bright light area, it will not turn on. If i remember correctly, for D90, only the middle focus point (cross type) selected, then only it will the turned ON AF beam. You need to be on AF-A or AF-S mode. If I recall right, AF-C mode won't turn on the AF assist lamp. Also, you need to be on dynamic focus points or single focus area and select the middle point. Other AF modes will not work. I believe the manual should have more details but I dont have a D90 to check. It should be almost the same for all Nikon cameras.

If you guys really have to shoot telephotos at f/1.4 or f/1.8 indoors, this is what you'll get. At those aperture values, the DOF is less than the tip of the nose to eyes. Its essentially about a 1 to 2 cm plane that is acceptably sharp in that aperture range.

QUOTE(General_Nic @ Dec 9 2010, 12:04 PM) so u pokai for now? wont b getting 24mm anytime soon? good news for us, no 24mm on FX poison Oh you will get to see 24/1.4 pics after I go to IMS this Saturday... Added on December 9, 2010, 1:20 pmQUOTE(celciuz @ Dec 9 2010, 11:38 AM) Let's see how it goes tomorrow. I'll be shooting with 85mm f/1.4 . Good luck. As long as you know where you're pointing and not just spray and pray, you'll be fine. It just takes a lot more effort with a fast lens to get things in focus at the right place. Those spray and pray noobs... no comment la. This post has been edited by adriancs: Dec 9 2010, 01:20 PM

QUOTE(geekster129 @ Dec 9 2010, 01:26 PM) i usually spray and pray to check my exposure settings. But sometimes i felt like the lcd screen really can't be trusted much. Any tips on how you tune the exposure more accurately apart of looking at the histogram? Use center weighted or spot metering, and do the Zone system for exposure metering. Matrix metering is only good if you're shooting fast action and not much time to setup. QUOTE(KTCY @ Dec 9 2010, 01:51 PM) 35mm f/1.8 acceptable just that it isn't that sharp. I'm getting, by next year ! Next year is fast. 1 more month to go 24-70 is not a must if you have 24mm , 35mm , 50mm in that range add in 50mm f/1.2G 50mm f/1.4 is so yesterday. we're waiting for f/1.2 Keep waiting la... U know Nikon's style with lenses. Wait like 10 years for the 24/1.4, 15 years for a 85/1.4 replacement... The only thing they reliably update constantly is their f/2.8 zooms. I'm not a fan of 50mm. Don't like 50mm angle of view. I only still use 50/1.8 cos its so cheap and almost weightless, but performs like a champion.

QUOTE(lpyycy @ Dec 10 2010, 08:08 AM) since this lens ques here, i tumpang ask aso...how do u all take out the camera from the bag? i am having the normal back. and normally the body sit under and lens facing top. is it the right way to take the camera out by taking its lens (that connected with body) or need to take the body 1st? feel sked after seeing this pic as normally i will take it with the lens, den oni take the body..somehow bag too deep, my hand hardly reach (i got big hand >.<) My camera and attached lens goes straight into the bag, lens down. When I want to take it out, just put my hand in, hold the handgrip just like shooting time, and pull the whole thing out. I put some velcro pads so that the camera+lens will stand up straight in the bag. And no, no straps on the camera. A handstrap sometimes, but usually nothing.

Man KLIMS on Saturday was like sardines. Can't even walk properly without tripping over someone. Didn't spend much time there. Was really claustrophobic inside there. Here's my contributions to this post. More to come if I can sort everything out. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

QUOTE(geekster129 @ Dec 14 2010, 05:04 PM) What is the difference between SB700 and SB600 apart of the zoom range? Better UI buttons? thats about it. On paper you're paying more for slightly less power at a faster cycling time. I'd keep my SB600s they're smaller sized.

QUOTE(kimurastanley @ Dec 14 2010, 10:30 PM) oh, sharp le.. wide open?? u crop the photo?? Wide open. Yes I crop the two sides. I don't like the 3:2 format. I'd do square, but its such a waste of good glass to crop away so much. I use a 24mm like a 35mm in the way I frame things since I throw away the sides.
