Since you mentioned continuous autofocus, you will only get that with A35.

Which compact camera can take image quality like the dslr?

How's the a3200is compared with the s95? Any big difference in the image quality?
*
A3200 is way too far to be compared to S95.
However if you ask the best compacts to deliver quality of DSLR. Fuji X100/X10, and the Olympus XZ-1 are among the best. S95/S100 are not as good as those I mentioned just now but are still considered OK.

Nikon v1 with twin lens or Sony next 5n with twin lens? Which is better?
*
Sony NEX-5n outperforms Nikon 1 system seriously in image quality. Even Olympus's PEN or Lumix's GF will win Nikon 1 in quality. In my opinion, Nikon 1 is quite an idiotic invention with only good AF speed, but terrible image quality.

I advice you to go for Canon's compact. Sony's compacts, I personally don't recommend.

Currently Sony NEX-5n seems to deliver the best dynamic range which is a key to landscape. But I'm also curious in how the coming GX-1 can perform.

However, the advantage of having a Oly or Pana is that their lenses are interchangeable. You are able to mount a Lumix Leica on a PEN or a M.Zuiko Lens on GX series. I'm always amazed by the built quality of the new Zuiko lens which is fully metal. Anyway, if you are using a NEX-5n, you can also easily mount any of the Pana/Lumix lenses with a cheap adapter. Which I think is the best combo.

You won't be able to get Nikon 1 with that price, and LX5 and P7100 are way too old.

Olympus XZ-1 is the best to suit the price range. Built-in ND filter is best when the light is too bright and the bright f1.8 aperture is nice to have when it comes to night.

In fact, Sony's SLT is optimized for video shooting.

Nikon D3100 will probably have almost the same image quality with A35 but won't grant you continuous AF. Nikon 1 may give you what you want in AF but the image quality sucks. In fact, I feel that Nikon thought their customers will be easily satisfied by how the small sensor perform. But experts and advanced shooters are not meant to be fooled.

hm..if i push the price up till Nikon 1...would it be a good 1? or would there be better to choose from within that price?

edit:
but that day i saw Nikon J1 was selling for rm1800+ only..

Yes. Choose from Sony NEX-5n, Panasonic Lumix GX1(Coming Soon) or Olympus EP-3.
3 of the above have their own advantages and unique features, do some research on them if you are interested.

Nikon 1 is just way too not worthy to get with that overpriced tag and so-so image quality.

No. the ironic fact that small sensor size will never (or at least extremely difficult) to beat APS-C sized sensor on a DSLR.

The nearest is Sony NEX which in fact are also APS-C sized sensor. Panasonic and Olympus with Micro 4/3 are said to be optimised for digital (in fact this is the main point when they promote Four Third system), and they also produce decent image quality superior than many compacts. Nikon 1 is only a bit bigger than normal compacts.

Personally prefer Canon for how it render the colour. But it shouldn't be any problem in digital anyway. tongue.gif
Lumix with Leica branded are OK as well, but be noted that Leica doesn't mean lens from leica, it's just designed by leica.

Hmm, true.. But since most of the time I'll using for traveling, compactness/portability will be a main point too. It seems E-PL3 or E-PM1 will be more suitable and price wise is more of a value, right? Oly images and performance won't be much lower as compared to Pana and Sony?

If between E-PL3 & E-PM1, which would you suggest? Only difference will be the movable LCD, but is it that useful?

I guess Oly and Pana will give you nearly the same image quality as their sensor size are the same. If for compactness, Sony NEX-5n or Olympus E-PL3 should suit you best, otherwise Pana GF3 is not very bulky as well.

But for performance, I believe Oly will offer you faster AF focus. I've seen an experienced street photographer capturing the expressions of the people by using his Olympu Pen.

In compact, they are almost the same. Some are sensor-based and some are lens-based. I believe that they won't be any noticeable difference. If you require a faster shutter, ISO is your another concerns. smile.gif
