Well, I'm a DSLR kaki and my ex-colleague gave me this difficult task. She has a 60D (thanks to my recommendation tongue.gif) and now wants something easy to be carried around to shoot her two baby sons. biggrin.gif

Just recommend me few models please, the budget can be slightly topped up.

Tolong, tolong! notworthy.gif I was thinking of Sony NEX's series but oh boy they exceed her budget. laugh.gif

Sis... definately one of the GF's +14mm pancake (don't need zoom cos no time to zoom and 99% of the time won't be an arms length away) depending on budget.

Reason being: its cheap'ish, good i-auto mode, the balance allows for one handed operation (be it video or stills) and most important snappy AF performance.

I got 2 baby daughters and everytime I lepak in the nursery etc with them... by far the most popular camera I see is the GF2 and GF3. Thinking of getting one myself if only I'm not such a geek.

Hey sniper, thanks for the recommendation!
I'm in dark when comes to compact or M4/3, so which GF series will you recommend?
I assume GF3 is the latest version, err within the budget?

I gotta start Googling now. Tenkiu!

Added on November 7, 2011, 2:21 amEr, looks like no. Way exceeds her budget.

Seems like the Lumix LX5 fits into her budget perfectly, how is this camera? I know LX3 was once a bomb when it was out. Hopefully the successor is as good as the predecessor. biggrin.gif

Nex 5n around your budget, slightly more but very compact, very fast response.

Quite good, unless you want to buy a DSLR for double the weight lo.

No such thing as limited, more like diff range of lens from each brand to another.

There's roughly 84 lens and counting 4 you to use, is that enough?

Would u mind to point out the difference between Sony a55 and Canon 600 D?

I might choose 1 of these, since the price range is close...

Compacts are convenient outdoor but indoors/poor light and action (as in kids not keeping still)... its a bit more tricky. In pure pixel peep terms, ISO400 on compact is like close to ISO3200 on your 550D tongue.gif Also consider the shutterlag is considerably worst on compacts.

If cost is a major issue to you and you won't be spending money like water on lens --> NEX5 or better still the NEX5N with better color jpegs.

600D if you want swivelling screen (good for low angles and video)

550D if you wanna save that couple hundred linggit. Both shoots the same.

Strictly speaking, NEX-5N is still considerably slower than a 550D in terms of operation speed and AF tongue.gif

and...

550D + 18-55mm kitlens = 530grams + 200grams = 730grams
NEX-5 + 18-55mm kitlens = 288grams + 194grams = 482grams
= Difference 248grams

a can of coca cola weight 390grams. tongue.gif

IMHO opinion... primary different is the feel when shooting. With a DSLR like the 600D, the view through the viewfinder is like seeing the world through a small window while on the EVF equipped A55, it's like seeing the world through a small LCD screen.

Dot forget the 500D and 600D can only do 3.5fps while the NEX 5 can reach 7 or 8. And the canon is still using an old sensor.

I have lotsa happy user that was previously using high end DSLR which is happily using Nex saying that its operation speed and autofocus is fast and tack on. Even the touch screen is responsive, albeit not really 100% useful.

Plus, in terms of JPEG, the Nex 5n produces a better JPEG output at higher iso compared to the 550/600D~" At least, for those pixel peeper.

Fully agreed... the 5N is an awesome camera. ISO6400 is so darn clean wub.gif .

I think it's great for:

- Average folks who just wanna take pictures and not interested in the process
- As a digital back for folks that have too many old lens.

Let me explain myself.

I just take snapshots of insignificant things tepi jalan and with the small body + P&S interface, it takes significantly longer to change settings (granted its a huge improvement over the previous gen).

The AF is not slow but I think PDAF is still faster for those pull-up-camera-snap-and-run situations tongue.gif

Anyway, it's a different experience altogether shooting with optical viewfinder and LCD screen. smile.gif
