just grab one whatever it is you will eventually learn how to use it. even though it is pro camera

If I were you I will go for d3000 or 450D worst 1000D
however if you can add a little bit (approx 500RM).
you might be able to grab D3100 or 500D <- which far far better compared to those two.

if you can add 1k I suggest you to go for 550D, don't bother to look at d5000, it's not worth with the price. IMO

depends on how you going to use it.
if you going to use it to it's maximum
e.g. HD video recording, 18 MEGA pixel (you are going to print a ballyhoo or crop crop your image everywhere)
I will say it is worth.
else if you are normal user, only going to shot and not bother to do PP.

Depends how you gonna use your camera.

I will say it satisfy me for the timing. but as human I won't deny if I want to upgrade my body many times.
the reason is d3100 is lacking of AF- motor
therefore you have to find newer generation of lens which has built-in focus motor on the lens itself. which will cost you more expensive.
Well for me, I am still okay of purchasing newer lenses because newer lens = better technology = better performance.

you have to consider that if you want to go to d3100.
you can't get the cheapest lens available for nikon 50mm 1.8D.
as the replacement it can only replace 50mm 1.4D (approx 1k) with nikon new 50mm 1.4G lens (approx 1.8k)
however Sensor + ISO performance I will say the best for nikon entry level body.

you can buy second hand.
and I think it's still available in some retail shop.

If I were you I will go for d7000 + Nikkor 50mm 1.8 the price will be 4k or 4.1k around there.
I bet you will satisfy the control given by d7000 (the best prosumer DSLR in Nikon line up *the latest technology DSLR on nikon w/ HD video recording, 2 memory card slot, magnesium aloy body (usually used in PRO body), fast burst mode, anf freaking awesome 56 focus point (CMIIW))*)
and 50mm 1.8 will give you a very good bokeh + fast focusing w/ a very cheap price ... Lol


go for 550D I friend got it for 2,4k including kit lens. for D3100.
if you are not good in bargaining you can go for 500d. but try to get 550D if you prefer Canon or d3100 if your prefer Nikon

you can, just go to lowyat and do very nicebargaining.
usually they will let their 1000d go w/ 1.4k
but for the used set 1k is enough

I suggest you d7000 or 7d its' up to you.
FYI
d7000 own the latest technology in nikon line up with makes the rest prosumer DSLR looks less interesting for customer.

I if you found it doubtful to buy some cheapo DSLR.
let me tell you something entry level DSLR will be always like that.
not much difference offered.
the only difference are
HD or not HD <- if you are serious in move making, and yeah it still doesn't make much difference I have friend w/ d90 which is not HD camera but produce very good video
AF body. usually Nikon doesn't give AF motor on its Entry level body (d3000, d3100, d5000) this makes your body unable to use lens without focus motor therefore you can only go for the newer lenses w/ most of them has focus motor.

lastly megapixel, ISO, etc, etc <- this doesn't make much difference
what makes much difference is your skill.
if you doubt about your camera go to http://www.mylensdb.com/explore/
and browse what kind of picture your camera produce. so you will know the lacking things is your skill not gear.

Basically all DSLRs are able to do that.
it's all come back to your skill. depends!
therefore in selection of DSLR. 1 thing is the most important one.
ergonomic and feeling (IMO)
because the feature is competitive, they will always offer the new feature, therefore I say it's less important.
but ergonomic is the other matter thing.
for me I was think I will but 550d, however due to ergonomic and stuffs (if you pay attention 550D has dial facing upper side which is kind of weird for me <- again it's personal opinion, and the control offered is less convenient for me <- AGAIN it's my personal opinion)
that's the reason I go for d3100, which I find it is very convenient.

and again for sony. I am not sure. I didn't do research about sony.

Are you sure you did turn on the automatic mode on nikon?
2nd.
I would suggest you go for 1000d if you prefer canon or d3000 if you prefer nikon, that's the only option for your budget.

If I were you I would buy 1st hand dslr body for my very first dslr, it will help somehow in ownership feeling.
else if you are okay w/ second hand. just go for second hand. you might get better body w/ that budget.
prob. 450d or d3100

Nikon superbly light DSLR model with budget below 2k including kit lens.
is D3100.!! yay

please take note the model doesn't have AF motor.
please take note Nikon doesn't give clearer picture. they are the same
IMHO Nikon gives cooler color whereas Canon warmer (but this is adjustable in nikon body, IDK about canon)

canon? I am not sure. but some models like 450D/500D/550D does give motor IMO
if they quote the price of d3000 as 1,8k just go for d3100 with 200RM more..
you wouldn't regret.

they will mostly give you AF-S Nikkor 1855 3.5-5.6 G unless you have special request.
With that lens you can lean a lot and no worry you will have auto focus.. hahaha
you know what if I were you I will save another 300-400 and go for D3100 it's an upgrade model of D3000, I am using it, and it's pretty much serve my need.
anyway good luck for your searching


IMHO for beginner you don't really need much gear, all you need is practicable DSLR so you have more control of your picture compared to compact camera, the other things? will do.!
1.5k you can try for canon 1000D, a friend of mine snap a very good photo with that 1000D.
beginner = upgrade skill 1st.


In my personal opinion d3100 is a way better compared to d5000 (spec wise)
However D5000 gives you better ergonomic (personal opinion) , and swift lcd monitor (lcd which can swift around ==a sorry poor explaination)

I doubt you can get DSLR with 1k.
well if you want you can try with 2nd hard 1000D.
