currently i am still using tomato firmware on my router.. i would like to ask:

riz setup guide on DIR615/RB250GS --> current router select PPPoE

klseet setup guide on RB750/RB750G --> current router select ??
..i notice PPPoE option has been set on RB750/RB750G
*
RB250GS handle vlan tagging, so you can use your own router and setup PPPoE will do (like Streamyx).

RB750/750G handle vlan + full router function, you can use any wireless router setup as AP only for WiFi, gateway is the RB750/750G.

thanks klseet..

sorry being noob here.. if RB750/RB750G is setup care to share which option should i choose..

Since RB750/750G is full feature router, you don't need to use WAN on your wifi router anymore, just select "Disabled"

Assuming you use RB750/750G default IP which is 192.168.88.1
on your own wifi router:
- disable WAN service
- disable DHCP server
- assign fixed IP 192.168.88.x subnet 255.255.255.0
- gateway & DNS enter 192.168.88.1
- setup your prefer wireless password & encryption
- connect any LAN Port of the wifi router (NOT WAN port) to RB750/750G Port 2/3/4

You are welcome!

Just to add, if your router has Router/Gateway option (either in the firmware or hardware button), choose Router mode, not Gateway mode.

bro...wanna to ask...is the TP-Link TL-WR841N V7 a good router?? i meant the wifi signal...is it strong??

another thing...if i want to use my Dir 615 only as bridge...can i use any wireless router out there in the market and connect it to my Dir 615??
*
The signal should be stronger than DIR-615! nod.gif

If you configure the DIR-615 as bridge (per Rizvanrp's guide), yes you can use any WAN-base wireless router out there, just setup the PPPoE (like Streamyx) and connect it's WAN port to DIR-615 LAN port.

It's written on the label attached to the box and also at the bottom of the router itself.

Suggest you go IT shop (eg, LowYat Plaza or Digital Mall Sec14) to check & buy.

guys, if i am on Mac OS X and cannot run the software tool that's supposed to be used to configure the mikrotik routers, is there a web interface that i can use? sorry, it's not very clear to me, from what i've read, i've only seen the software being used to configure.

Hi Paul,

I'm not familiar with Mac, it seem like there is a way to run WinBox tool on Mac, you may want to refer here:

The model I've tested is TL-WR841N ver7.1
donnie.dgr also tested ok on TL-WR841ND v7 as reported here

Courtesy from TP-Link representative Oscar from LowYat Plaza, who passed me the new TL-WR841ND Ver:7.2 yesterday for testing! biggrin.gif

I tested this hardware with the beta firmware on my FTTH Huawei HG850a, left it on stress test since last night with uTorrent & IPTV (HD channel 144) continuously for more than 15 hours, no problem at all! rclxms.gif

Document updated here: http://klseet.com/index.php?option=com_con...e&id=7&Itemid=6

TP-Link still need more time to finalise testing & internal QA procedure before releasing the 841 official firmware.

Also started to discuss next higher-end device, most likely TL-WR1043ND, will start after the 841 official, stay-tuned for more update! icon_rolleyes.gif

Yes I do notice the setup document need further detail & explanation, give me sometime I'll update it accordingly! nod.gif

Been busy recently and also struggling to resolve some routing problem on my site ... sweat.gif

Anywhere, with regards to the TL-WR841ND replacement, I have emailed the beta firmware to quite a number of users out there, sometime I'm unable to response on time, therefore I've decided to upload to the following for those who really want to test and replace the DIR-615:
http://www.4shared.com/file/QetQoguC/TL-WR841-UniFi.html

Please ReadMeFirst file before continue, you may follow the setup guide here:
http://klseet.com/index.php?option=com_con...e&id=7&Itemid=6

Please take note up-to-date I received 2 complains on frequent disconnect/connect issue on high-rise VDSL Huawei HG655a.
Since I don't have this BTU, I really can't tell whether it's the router switch or the HG655a problem. I'm still waiting for that 2 users to replace new unit to test out further.

TP-Link still haven't confirmed the date, I would say probably after CNY around mid-Feb.

Please note you are flashing at your own risk, I don't own the firmware therefore I won't be able to support if anything goes wrong!

QUOTE(rizvanrp @ Jan 27 2011, 10:31 PM)
I haven't done load balancing on RouterOS yet but it's pretty easy with Linux :3 I've balanced 5x 20mbps links for 100mbps before, lol
Wah bro Riz, very glad to hear finally you are on RB !! rclxms.gif
I told you before you are going to like it kuat-kuat, now you know ler ... brows.gif

Hope to see more advance setting & advice from you on how to fully ultilise & maximise this little yet powerful white box! icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(YooNJuN @ Jan 27 2011, 09:33 PM)
The exact same problem with mine , I got the firmware from klseet to test the router too .
It was running with no problem at all for the 1st day but I encountered constant disconnection every 7~8 minutes  afterwards .
Nothing I do can with it .
*
I remembered you emailed me before, may I know what 841 model/version & BTU are you using?
Btw, have you hard re-set and re-apply the firmware again?

So it seem like now 3 cases all relate to HG655a high-rise VDSL.....

For YooNJuN case, it was ok initially but later frequent d/c, the other 2 cases straight d/c, this is strange .....

It seem to me that the beta firmware is not compatible with HG655a.

Need HG655a user to capture some data using WireShark for TP-Link engineer to trouble shoot, any volunteer?

QUOTE(ben3003 @ Jan 28 2011, 12:39 AM)
klseet, do i need to change the MTU to flash the firmware?

Not necessary, unless you cannot upgrade the firmware.

I'm not sure because I'm on HG850a, I have no problem on both TL-WR841N V7.1 & TL-WR841ND V7.2

I tested each continuously for more than 15 hours with uTorrent & IPTV con-currently, there is no d/c issue.
Also there are others on ZTE & Fibrehome also reported ok.

Are you on HG850a or 655a?
May I know how you resolve the d/c issue on RB750?

Thanks guys. notworthy.gif

How does the RouterOS compare any OpenWRT-based firmware?
*
To me, I prefer RouterOS as I can use the WinBox (gui-base) to configure things.
I'm not familiar with OpenWRT, it's indeed very OPEN to me ! sweat.gif

I think Riz & Blindbox are expert sifu on OpenWRT, they are doing UniFi-on-OpenWRT project, almost there, stay-tune ! brows.gif

QUOTE(billytong @ Feb 9 2011, 08:45 AM)
Till today I Fail to see why is the heck they need to force us to have this VLAN, when all they need to do is to just plug the STB directly to BTU. The equipment are design to work that way, even the BTU Manual shows it. hmm.gif

As for D-Link 615(Sept 2010 Batch), it seems mine are still working pretty good I can even torrent full speed + internet browsing at the same time. Been trying to burn this router down by pushing it... but keep working flawlessly lol.

and btw, I still need 100mbps local speed. didnt TM said they planning to do it? I really need to share something with Mah friendz instead of driving to his house. Anybody got news on this?
*
Wah, Billy, long time no see!

Yaloh, by right all those vlan things & connection can just be done and handle on the BTU itself, just like neighbourhood country's ISP which they didn't force user to use specific router.
The worst thing is the DIR-615, using a rather out-dated Ralink SoC chip with some kind of low-level platform materials, it does not even has MIMO !! doh.gif
TM always like to go on the wrong side of the road "by left", not "by right" ...... tongue.gif

On the local high-speed connection, may be Riz can share with us more ?! smile.gif

QUOTE(rizvanrp @ Feb 8 2011, 11:47 PM)
@DT8

TP-Link 841ND has disconnection issues with some VDSL BTUs (that's what I heard from seet anyway).. but it's an all-in-one solution which should satisfy most home users as a backup router for Unifi. Power users will probably go with the RB250GS or 750/750G. 250GS lets them connect any hardware (Cisco/Zyxel/Vyatta/Belkin/Buffalo/whatever) with Unifi. Then you have the 750/750G which is a full RouterOS based system (but without wireless). RouterOS lets you have total control over your network + high performance routing for P2P applications.

You don't compare cars and only look at the price right? laugh.gif
*
Yes, to those of you who buy from IT shops which flashed directly with the beta firmware, please take note that it's confirmed the beta firmware is not working properly on Huawei HG655a VDSL for high-rise!!

I'm working with some members to Wireshark data capture for TP-Link engineer to trouble-shoot, will update the result soon.

Riz, I'm currently looking into and had setup basic Layer7 as per the following guides:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Basic_traffi...yer-7_protocols
Layer7 protocols:
http://l7-filter.sourceforge.net/protocols

So far it seem to work well and handle QoS traffic nicely according to the Q priority, but I noticed the CPU loads up between 20~40% once I start torrenting, also noticed quite a lot traffic unmark, not sure whether my setting problem or others ....

Do you think MikroTik Layer7 is recommended for QoS? Or we just go for Simple Q?

nice to meet u too. Honestly speaking, I kinda "regret" buying that RB250GS after I got my 750G. lol But nvm I gonna use it to extend my local gigabit network.

Been trying to torture my 615 base on my usage, its not failing so far lol. +75GB now since Feb 1st.

regarding the local high-speed connection, would be nice if I can hear more news about any plan on this from any TM official but then.... I REALLY want that local Speed thing!  cry.gif need to share loads my stuffz with Mah friendz! Seriously... TM should get this service up ASAP.
*
You may want to try out Riz's DC++ project, I used to download & share movies with others last previously, but didn't use it for quite a while .....

It's called continuous improvement mah, so no need to regret on RB250GS, who knows you may still need it someday ! brows.gif

QUOTE(charymsylyn @ Feb 9 2011, 03:12 PM)
I believe this is inaccurate as MIMO is part of the specification for 802.11n. 300Mbps operation requires 2 spatial streams and hence 2 antennae to function.
*
I can't seem to find anything written on the box or manual like other brands, the wireless is definitely slower & weaker than TL-WR841ND, that's why I think it's not "fully" MIMO ....

The DIR-615 G1 FCC ID: KA2DIR615G1

https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports...7KA2DIR615G1%27

this device has been manufactured before end of 2009, probably extend from the B1/B2 model, it uses a Ralink SoC RT3052F 384Mhz, same with my WHR-G300N which I bought in Taiwan 3 years ago!

Honestly, with a rather out-dated Ralink with only 1.8dBi gain, I really don't know what level of MIMO it can achieve ... sweat.gif

Actually instead of sticking to just 1 partner who continue to provide old/outdated chip, TM can always partner with as many manufacturers out there to use more latest/advance/stronger chip, "something" must be going on alongside the tender/procurement process ..... cool2.gif

question, can my Aztech Router WL830RT4 replace the DIR-615? Got this router for about... 5 months already, works like a charm for me now (using Streamyx 1MBPS, my unifi's coming this Friday, 2 days from now)

Now, I'm not the kind of person who turns on his routers and everything for more than a week, usually only around 48 hours max. (mostly less than 15 hours at a time)

OH, one more thing, the DIR-615 by TM, is it any different than the original DIR-615? I hope TM didn't change its settings or anything...? 'cuz it isn't a too bad of a router according to the sites i saw on Google.
*
I think WL830RT4 is an ADSL router right? It won't work on UniFi ....

Normal retail DIR-615 is different from TM's DIR-615, they look the same, but TM's one come with custom firmware to handle vlan on UniFi.

QUOTE(BlueWind @ Feb 9 2011, 05:45 PM)
Taken from klseet's post on V8 Unifi thread, I think it would be a good idea to add this to the main page and possibly on klseet/riz homepage guide(for convenience) for Mikrotik models.

Hello all, I applied for Unifi and they are coming to install on the 19th. I would like to ask a few questions :-

1) If all equipments installed in my living room near tv , will my room signal be ok?

2) Need to prepare anything ?
Thanks
*
Try not to place wifi around TV & electronic items, it will affect the signal quality. It would be worst if near Astro box, especially Beyond. Try to place the wifi on top of cabinet or something, somewhere middle of house/living hall, try avoid concrete wall blocking, metal and electronic items.

....which one would you recommend for a typical user? My guess is RB250?
*
I started with RB250GS, then RB750 & RB750G.
My comment:

For RB250GS
- almost no change to your current network setup
- just connect any of your current WAN router, change PPPoE user ID & password
- then enjoy !

For RB750/750G
- it's full fledged router gateway, advance users and complex network will appreciate this
- may need to change network setting to suite your current setup
- for junior (like me), need some R&D effort to setup proper firewall, port-forward, QoS, etc ....

For me, I still prefer RB750, I don't think i'm going to have over 100MB load on internet side on next few years, also it's lesser heat compare to RB750G.
For LAN speed concern, can spend another RM100 something to throw in a 8-port gigabit switch for LAN transfer/streaming! smile.gif

no I have only 1 RB750G, which is from Landasan.

Well then, I already got the RB250GS from u, but I went to Landasan to get RB750G since b4 that it is USD 17(now its 10USD) shipping from Solition for 1 unit. thats about RM21 higher than now. So it wouldnt make any different to buy it from Landasan directly for RM280.

but now.... RM30 lol Well I can say I am not lucky haha. Anyway guys. it is a pretty good router even I got it more exp for Rm280. It s a pretty good router.

If buy 3 units of any make, shipping cost it's like USD5/unit !! drool.gif
