do you mind sharing some info on yourself ?
I'm planning to apply too .. but I'm only here for 15 months. many said that I should wait at least 2 years..
I'm in marine line, service engineer. wonder what are my chances also .
*
err.... eng. by edu but doing something else.. studying mpm for now... underpaid overworked semi peon... 25

try lor, no harm right... if fail i think i will try aus or canada

QUOTE(bellion @ Jan 21 2011, 09:57 PM)
As per my earlier post, there is no restriction for foreigners buying condominiums and apartments.  Restrictions exist only for HDB flats and landed properties.
*
i believe there's... the foreigner must have at least valid working pass... unless it is at sentosa cove

QUOTE(charhorfun @ Jan 21 2011, 11:35 PM)
Guys, wanted to ask about this.

I have been trying to find out non-HDB property prices from SG property websites, but it seems all non-HDB property prices are "POA - price on ask" only. Can't get a feel on the price range.

Can you guys share with the price range of the most affordable non-HDB property?

I am planning to work in SG. I am hoping not to rent a place due to the expensive rental (I have a family). I would prefer to buy a property, any decent / not too old / 3-4 rooms flat near MRT will meet my needs. But since I am not a PR, I can't get HDB. And applying PR for myself and my family will take a long time, and I don't want my money to go into rental.

If you guys know of any property website that list the price of non-HDB property please do share with me. Thank you!
*
flats are mostly hdb... you can buy one unless you are a pr.. service flats are around sgd 1 mill... condos can be purchased around sgd 700 for cheaper ones... they wont quote you unless you view the place... sounds reasonable...

For private, non-landed property, it's a free for all. Lots of Chinese and Indons simply get off a plane with chequebook in hand and buy. If you go to those higher end condo launches, you'll see them. Singapore's private property is like a convenient Swiss vault for Chinese and Indons who want to park money in assets outside their country.
*
i stand corrected then... if they can buy properties here, then how? they drop by often on tourist visa to look at their properties?

hi guys, wanna know how do you guys feel about working in kranji, paya lebar and lavender?
I attended 3 interviews today and they all offer me the position but i told them i need to consider for couple of days. All of them offer almost the same salary. Now i only concern about the working place and living place. i quite concern about living environment and comfort like i am living in tampines i personally like it alot. so can you guys give comments for above three areas(and nearest district)? which do you think its best for living?
*
i prefer to look at the company rather than location..

The employer asked whether I can consider work permit. need advice, should i go for work permit? as it is considered downgrade from spass to workpermit...
*

QUOTE(rickysim84 @ Feb 1 2011, 05:44 PM)
But i thought tat someone who hold, for example e pass before should be able to hold back the same e pass right?

Also, e pass and s pass is not much diff, but s pass to work permit having some diff such as if u wanna sign a phone contract, u need to deposit a lum sum of money, where as s pass and e pass do not.
*
by requirements there's a big diff... e pass have 3 diff levels... if u r talking about 'p' e pass in terms of def then not much diff with s cause its an entry level thingie

i think s & e pass also need, depends on duration left on the pass?

QUOTE(mrportable @ Feb 1 2011, 05:46 PM)
i do consider to apply for PR but only after 1-2 years. will that affect much if i go for WP now?

Added on February 1, 2011, 5:50 pm
I have phone & broadband contracts already, will that cause any conflicts?

my new company offered me $2.3k but if i take WP, i think they will only write 1.8k (but still giving me 2.3k). I'm wondering will that affect my record, as 1.8k is actually lower than my current salary (2k).
*
i believe it will affect very much... s pass not so bad, some highly skilled ppl from the indian sub continent manage to get pr with their s pass after 3-10 years of exp.... now also change

my company hires lots of epass holders getting less than 2.5k, so i guess it still works

QUOTE(ba5tard @ Feb 1 2011, 05:50 PM)
tenkiut teniut so much for the infomation... i dun wanna risk to go ep coz the rejection rate high and my salary not even touch 2.5k... so better safe... for me i dun mind wat type of pass... most important can get the work done... coz the company give me the whole stack of application form and asked me to return on monday but some part i have difficulties filling in... lolzzzzz...
*
how come is high? my company's turnover is very high.. e pass holders in and out and yet no rejection so far, probably size of company does play a part as well?

QUOTE(mrportable @ Feb 1 2011, 05:53 PM)
the employer's idea is applying for WP for me first and upgrade to S/Epass in the future
*
hmm.. i think better not, if those passes have a pay req only then its ok... but its not just that, unless you have a sudden upgrade in ur qualification i think better not downgrade urself...

hi guys, few weeks ago I just rejected an offer to work in singapore, the reason is they offer me  the same salary which I have now , and I have to bear myself all the expenses for moving to that place.

So guys, please tell me did I thrown away an opportunity and did I miss anything good there?
*
same dollar to dollar or equivalent?

well, if it is a bigger company, better position then yes... if not, the depends on personal preference

Also what is the available payment method for room rental? Do they accept credit card?
Wishing everyone here Happy Chinese New Year! smile.gif

1 month depo, 1st month rent, 1 month agent fee... cash or check
QUOTE(Shinichi @ Feb 2 2011, 05:11 PM)

should be enough to move it with bed, cupboard, 1 fan if lucky desk and tv
i used up usd3k when i moved over... dont forget opening acc need sgd1k or was it sgd500

Was in Melaka. I went to hong leong, want to deposit SGD to RM account, they said they don't do forex, ask me to buy RM from money changer. Keep saying outside rate is better than bank rate. Fine, I walk across to HSBC, they also refuse to change my SGD cash to RM, can only to online transfer from my SG account to their local account. Finally I walk to Maybank, they have a counter doing overseas investment. They give me 2.359 no extra charges, I take. Bring the RM cash back to Hong Leong bank and told them "In festive season like CNY, most if not all money changer will sure KETUK you but not the bank, so bank rate will be the best bet at this time!"

I saw 2.32 at JB counter on my way home.
*
looks like a fair rate from maybank as well... very cacat leh the other banks dont handle foreign currency... causes a lot of inconvenience...

harlo.. need 2 ask for opinion, recently i complained i had to go to work on weekends and i am facing difficulty getting cab, so my boss says he will get me a new 325i but i have to forfeit my this year's bonus (5 figures) so i was thinking is this worth it? i can have the car for 10 years if i am still in the company, but on and off he will surely ask me to fetch ppl. maintenance by company ins, erp and fuel self. btw, company is very chinaman, i am sure i will be made to work hard for it. i dont have sg license yet and i have been here more than a year.

QUOTE(Supreme Allied Commander @ Feb 10 2011, 12:59 AM)
hahah, let me say this once u go conti u can never turn back , u can only go higher. I say go for the bimmer it really helps to have a car around  in singapore especially during those rush hour where u do not have time to take mrt and is packed with ppl. BTW i think ur boss meant a 320i as pml  does not bring in anymore 323 and 325s unless you specially indent. They are winding down production on the 3series in anticipation of the F30 coming out end of the year.
*
he mentioned 325, i dont know whether got i or not... lol... cousin have a 325 leh, but that's convertable... i am a lowage employee, i believe i would take even a suzuki
QUOTE(Mackiddo @ Feb 10 2011, 07:58 AM)
besides the car itself there is actually a lot of payment you gotta make. 1st is insurance, new driver license, for a bimmer we are looking ar sgd$3k for the 1st year ? Then road tax around sgd$1k/year. If you stay in HDB then there's parking fees sgd$90 per month. What about car servicing ?
*
new driver license is ok, eventually have to get it lor... but waaa, ins so exp er... road tax they pay so its ok... parking ok ler, servicing i think they will get it done
QUOTE(crapp0 @ Feb 10 2011, 08:37 AM)
Shouldnt a company car be under the company expenses aka road tax, maintenance fee, insurance etc instead of off loading that cost to you eventhough the car is given to you since its intended for business purposes.

Cant you book for a cabby beforehand so that you wont run into difficulties in finding a cab.
*
all except ins, fuel and erp lor... parking at home self, parking while on the job i think can claim from time to time... dont know leh.. that's what he says ler
QUOTE(r1v3r @ Feb 10 2011, 10:28 AM)
I am not sure I read this correctly : Boss can reduce company tax by buy buying company car and get a free driver cum weekend worker. Will you be able to use the car just like your own car (driving to Malaysia)? They pay the insurance but there is still time and money needed to maintain a well running car. Call a cab on every weekend is still cheaper than maintaining the car.

Do you like Bike?

Get a letter from JPJ then convert your driving licence to life time international SG driving licence. You just need to sit for a computer MCQ test.
*
yeaps, i will be able to use it personally, but any charge incurred for leisure have to pay it myself... cab sometimes not nice when i have guess from other countries, boss dont want to fetch them.... so i think a bit funny ask ppl to take cab... not leh, have to fetch ppl.. if i do that i will lose my msian license?
QUOTE(Jet23sky @ Feb 10 2011, 12:13 PM)
Car is like your wife... You will need to keep feeding it using money... I know it is easier for you to work... But spending those money seems like not a good budget. Thats life in Singapore, MRT... walking.... taking cab.... Unless you can try ride bicycle if short distance.

Giving up 5 digit just for car.... I would rather buy a small car using that 5 digit number. >.< Just 5 years of bonus you can pay all already.
*
true also.... i dont make much and i dont get much to save every month.... i depend on my bonus only, but now ins so exp... i am scared...

but i give up only this year's bonus wor... future bonus i can still keep

haih.. decide next week

you sure cut a hole on your pocket once you have that car. think twice, will you get net income from this deal. Change are you will spend much more for the convinient you get.

But if your jobs really need to fetch people and be nice to them then can ask for monthly allowance to maintain the company car.

Tot have 4000cc taxi on the road?

Added on February 10, 2011, 3:35 pmyou can transfer NCD discount from malaysia to SG. So start building up your NCD. Just register your family member's car insurance to your name. maximum 50% discount.

Depend on who you deal with JPJ to get the letter, sometime they will cut your MY licence on the spot.
*
yea, the depreciation of the car p.a. is already 1/2 my p.a. salary... not all the time i have to fetch, only ppl that my boss dont wanna see then i have to fetch those kind of ppl

so far only 2.5L cabs lor... 4L?

i had a few cars in US but non in msia before, all under family's name

QUOTE(Mackiddo @ Feb 10 2011, 03:59 PM)
nowadays if you get the letter from JPJ they will 'blacklist' you in the system, unless you decide last minute not to convert and return back the letter. But no worries coz you can use Sg license to drive a Malaysia register car. Lot of us are doing that. Best part is, the driving license is sgd$50 for life (PR & Singaporean only), the rest is sgd$50 for 5 years iirc.
*
blacklist then what will happen? convert means will lose msian license?

i have got US, msian and indo licenses... can i convert the indo license instead?

if show sg license sure cannot run away from saman or roadblock 1

I actually tried it before I got my EP and I made a fool of myself n the people behind me weren't amused. Everybody going in and out of Singapore is rushing. Never tried again after that.

So what your saying is with my EP, my passport is registered with them automatically and I can just use it similar like the one at the Malaysia side? I don't need to register anything?
*
yea... can use both side... very easy... sg side faster 2x, a bit narrower but longer in length....

You could try Mcconnell Dowell. I was contracted by them to oversea the SPT piping project in jurong island. Just completed it last week.

There's a upcoming tender for the Bukum-Shell project but i dont think Mcconnell Dowell will get the contract since they had alot of problems during the last project they were contracted to do.

I recently mentioned that an indian national died in a crane accident in sembawang shipyard but it was never reported in the news since it would be bad press for the company which is under government control by proxy. Same goes for keppel and jurong shipyard. So people who have worked there or know people in those line of work know that unless alot of people die, one or 2 isolated cases are swept under the carpet and gets no press.

*
mconnell dowell is in sg? didnt know that... talking to them in indonesia... lol
