Manchester City Back In For £50 Million Liverpool Star Fernando Torres As Replacement For Carlos Tevez - Report
QUOTE Manchester City could be prepared to table a bid of £50 million to bring Liverpool’s star striker Fernando Torres to Eastlands in the January transfer window. City are desperate to fill the boots of Carlos Tevez after it emerged recently that he wants out of the Manchester club, according to The News of the World. Torres could be the player whom City manager Roberto Mancini brings in should his Argentine striker leave for pastures new. An exit clause in the Spanish striker’s contract could force Liverpool to sell if a bid of £50m is tabled. It is understood that Torres would still prefer a move to Chelsea ahead of City, and that the forward would prefer to wait for the summer, when he would have more time to consider his options. Though Mancini will be able to out-bid any transfer rivals, with a reported £250,000-a-week package being considered, it is trophies, not financial rewards, that Torres is craving. The prospect of playing Champions League football is looking ever more doubtful for Liverpool, who have struggled so far this season, and a move away from the Merseyside club could be necessary if the striker wants to play in Europe’s top competition. City have been pursuing Torres for two years now, seeing a £60m bid for the star rejected 18 months ago. City’s position in the world of football has strengthened since then and as a result he could be tempted to sign for the club. Elsewhere in the Premier League Roman Abramovich would have to table a bid reminiscent of his early days at Chelsea should he want to bring the player to Stamford Bridge. Liverpool’s official line is that Torres is not for sale, though given the striker’s recent form and the club’s current position in the table, a big enough bid could see a parting of the ways that is profitable for all concerned. Both City and Chelsea could, though, face competition from Barcelona, as it is also reported that the Catalan giants, financially re-invigorated following a lucrative shirt sponsorship deal, are contemplating an £85m summer swoop for both Torres and their long-time target, Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas. Torres is currently placed 65th in the Castrol Rankings, while Tevez is 17th and Fabregas 40th. sos Goal.com whatever it is, if we cannot bein a top 4, and be a mid table team, who want to join us? unless you have a superduper investor with lot of moolah This post has been edited by normeck: Dec 19 2010, 08:03 PM |

Woy's face rubbing incident alone sure as hell turn off many star players.
His magnetic appeal probably can lure the likes of Robbie Savage & Luke Chadwick or coerce Niall Quinn to come out of retirement and play for him again. This post has been edited by carloz28: Dec 20 2010, 09:26 AM |

not for a price. selling torres (now) will have a very negative repercussion mid to long term on liverpool. unless we are resigned to be "has been" team for the next 100 years, go ahead.
torres is still coming to prime. he's not aged closer to 30s & have tons of years to contribute (come on he's not flash of a pan like some some strikers) clearly our record of scoring goals in the past season (under previous gaffer) didn't just dried up becuase of a player(s) just forgets how to score goals. |

Wow people still dreaming thinking whenever we sell our top players, we able to replace them with better ones. Havent we all learned anything from our history and mistakes? If Torres insist on leaving then fine, but we should spend every ounce of effort and even money to persuade him to stay. And not to mention that selling to City means we will be strengthening a 'potentially' 4th place rival ? Would someone like Mata or Benza be interested to join a club such as ours or a club that just bought Torres ?
Think people. |

I do believe that rumors are starting to fly as Inter's president is less than pleased with Rafa's outburst and also the fact that his family have actually moved back to Merseyside as the girls do not like the school they attend in Italy.
Never been a big fan of Rafa, but if he's gonna be given a fair crack of the whip by the new owners, why not? I can't believe I'd actually said that Added on December 20, 2010, 2:36 pmAlthough I am also sure that everyone knows that the second time round is never as sweet eh? Ever gotten back with a girl you broke up with earlier? After the passionate 'we're an item again' reunion period, things usually go downhill... fast, no? Your same idiosyncrasies annoy her as before, and you get frustrated with the very same things about her as well. Still, we are under new management, so one can also say that you've had a massive change of heart and have converted to being a vegetarian so things might just be ok this time round Would Rafa be given a fair go? Would the media be ready to pounce on his back from day 1? Too much unfair pressure on the man? Oh noes, I rubbed me chin!!! This post has been edited by madmoz: Dec 20 2010, 02:40 PM |

Seems he's a little miffed at the owners of Inter for not spending. Sound familiar? It may be taken out of context but I really wish he'd stop moaning to the media about the club not supporting him, and concentrate instead of making the best of the situation he's in. It's like I keep saying. This doesn't sound like the same Rafa who first came to Anfield.

Didn't he throw his toys out of the pram in Valencia too?
Google early pics of Rafa at Anfield, and then compare those with the photos from last season. The dude looks drained Mayhaps he needs a break? |

Don't think that Koptalk news is true. Someone probably read about Linda tweeting a few congratulatory words to Rafa on RAWK and decided to put 1 and 1 together.

Somehow I'd agree with what Moratti has had to say. Rafa demanding for more players just when the club won the World Club Championship. It would have been the right move to personally to Moratti to ask for players, but its a wrong move to demand players out in the open when he should have just enjoyed the moment of leading Inter to victory. Moratti is known for his quick trigger fingers I wont be suprised to see if Rafa walks after his recent outburst.
Angling for a move back to Liverpool perhaps? As much as i like the man to manage Liverpool again, and you guys are right, even if he somehow manages to get back to coach this club, after the initial euphoria then what? back to the putting round pegs in square holes? as the countless amount of times we've seen? I do think he isnt the same man that he was a few season' back. Somehow I dread to see him coming back to Liverpool if this is the Rafael Benitez we are going to get. For the sake of his own health I hope he takes a break like what Mourinho did and comes back stronger. I think most are if I may say this, blinded by the the fact the he portrayed himself as he against the board of directors during the troubled times of G&H and we as fans saw this, and took his side to ensure that we got rid of the virus that plagued the club, and i guess that won him immunity from the fans thus why he is so currently revered locally at the city. If he does come back, I fear that his influence maybe even stronger than of the board since he has much of the fans on his side. It maybe a popular choice by the board and im sure they may win the many skeptical fans over by re-appointing Benitez, but Liverpool doesnt need the current "Rafael Benitez". this man needs a break from football. Added on December 20, 2010, 4:38 pmguess what i found.. http://www.scousenotenglish.co.uk/?gclid=C...tory/4540928104 dont read too much on it though...just speculations This post has been edited by triple02: Dec 20 2010, 04:38 PM |

Rafa shouldnt come back so soon.. and his move to Inter was a mistake too. we need fresh manager.. villa boas top the list of many now considering how he change the way porto play. he is young so mistakes might happen along the way so wondering can supporters face it when he does make mistake?
one thing for sure he will need to practice to ignore those english media that seems to have personal vendetta against none english managers. maybe except for zola. |
