from left to right

Latest Reporting Period
DPU/ Distribution per Unit (or Payout per Share)
Price
Yield (calculated by trailing DPU or combining the payouts for the previous 4 quarters)
NAV - Net Asset Value

as u can see some yields are not that favourable, while others are quite strong.
there are various factors in REITs but the people over at the REITs thread can definitely help u out.

in my opinion, i'd choose reits if i want really high-yield & stable investments.

Hi,
How to calculate the annual profit generated from Dividend? example for STAR?
http://bblifediary.blogspot.com/2010/11/hi...updated-on.html
user posted image
How come he calculated is 17% so high?
I can see that it give out 41 cent per share per year

What i calculated is i assume i bought at JAN 2010 at 2.7
(10.5+10.5+21)/270=15%

And i suppose bearish market will impact on the divident right? Any concern need to care for REIT?

I would really like to see them post their pov and see its performance with my own eyes brows.gif then I can learn something new

Capital appreciation, I don't know, some stocks haven't sell, everyday still fluctuation, how to count?  biggrin.gif
Some also forget what price I bought already, don't bother to dig out the record/slip that already dusty.  tongue.gif

I just know my stocks all are beating the FD rate currently.  tongue.gif

But one thing, I can assure you buying steady good dividend stocks are quite rewarding over the long term, and with a peaceful mind everyday.

I am a lousy trader. Others forumers are 10x better than me.

ive got a small capital in futures too. playing 1 contract at a time but now taking a break from it cuz of the stress. so far made a few bad calls, and some good ones so overall a good gain. but i'd prefer stocks over futures because futures really put a lot of pressure on you, and really need a good trading plan a lot of technical experience, and hella good information sources doh.gif . even goreng stocks is nothing compared to the stress when trading in futs. sweat.gif but one reason im still doing futs is cuz of my broker lah, so cute. wub.gif

i think they're just discussing about REITs as an alternative to high-yield divs. REITs is like touch n go to me, once in a while must top up one tongue.gif

I think what he means is that CI high, stocks are moving up high, so can earn much more than defensive REIT, which usually moves only 4 times a year (while declaring dividends) tongue.gif

Added on December 5, 2010, 1:40 pmI guess for those who can't take stress or those who is already rich, may play safe game on divvi stocks/reit. Since only the divvi received already large amount, enough to buy benz. cool2.gif
On the other hand, those new player who has little capital, may play higher risk stocks, hoping to grow more capital from their tiny capital. sweat.gif

the stock market sifu will kill them all! thumbup.gif after 1-2 years, they'll be taking passive approach instead
once u get ur trading tactics correct, profit more than loss, then u r on the way
other that that, THERE IS NO such thing as beginner luck nod.gif

There has no free lunch in this world, has it? biggrin.gif
As for me, if I am a millionaire and heading towards my golden years, I'm pretty sure I'll only invest in REITs. So I only need to read the newspaper once a week to update myself of world economy. I won't spend so much time on stocks as today. nod.gif

Haha agree what you say here. Small fish like me with little capital should invest in more aggresive stocks, cause if invest in REIT/ High Dividend Stocks, my capital will only appreciate very slowly. But, of course, the risk is higher for me as well, after all, no pain no gain! whistling.gif

I am still waiting to earn my first million dollars!!!

same here waiting to earn my first million. But even 1 milion also insufficient for us to retire nowadays.

However, my strategies was opposite from yours. I will park my money in high yield investment to preserve my capital. Thereafter, i will go for higher risk investment.
