I have not touched anything related to APRS but then, APRS is only for location relay or location tracking.

If you want to go to the digital route, I would suggest you get a Yaesu Fusion capable radio since there are I think two repeaters in KL that supports the Yaesu Fusion digital voice.

Personally, I am now using Motorola Mototrbo mainly because I am also using it for commercial communications.
*
Yup...i hope can buy those yaesu radio soon.

So, what is all about commercial communication? Can u give example?

QUOTE(aminpro @ Jun 20 2016, 11:57 PM)
It is out of HAM discussion and I was actually once told off when I wanted to discuss about it among ham groups hahaha
Especially when I want to discuss about trunking/mototrbo/p25 etc. and especially when I say that I am using a Motorola....

Anyway, for commercial use, usually you would have a private line or frequency that you are allowed to use outside of the HAM band. These are owned mostly by companies. There are certain companies like Electcoms who rents out digital trunking lines and by using this system, you can have nationwide coverage among your group on digital radio.

Another use of Mototrbo for me, I would probably discuss that if we go yamcha or something lol

But yeah, do look out for those Yaesu Fusion and do a lot of research first before buying it. You don't want to be buying a radio that is not compatible with the HAM repeater(for digital)
*
Wow! Thank a lot to learn..

Hehe, is the mototrbo can do such as p25? Interesting..if like that, that will be my dream handy.hehe

Yaesu fusion quite expensive for me, but maybe one day i will buy it..maybe..

aminpro go ahead an take the CW exam. There is news there would be 2 types of class A. With CW and without. The callsign also will be different to differentiate those who have taken CW and who took the other way. There is no downside to taking the morse test. its an additional skill to have
*
Yup..but there is no sign that the mcmc will launch the new rules..they just keep silent..i also wondering what their thought and perception on radio amateur user in Malaysia.

Dear insomia

4.To check your exam application status or your examination result, click on Check Status.
5.To withdraw your application, click on Withdraw Exam icon/menu.

Ans:

4. To check the place, seat, and time of your RAE

5. To cancel or to posponed your exam to next available date or time.

So, in your situation, you can postponed your exam after you withdraw it, they will offer you next time.

I hope this will answer your question.

lelong.com.my is fine. That is where I get mine too back then.

Here are a couple of FB groups you might want to check out as well.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/774031062654255/
https://www.facebook.com/groups/radiosale/

My advise, avoid the Lowyat Plaza shop. I once bought an antenna for RM 350 and got back home just to find out it was a counterfeit product sold at original price. I even got an official email from the manufacturer confirming that it is a counterfeit product.

QUOTE(aminpro @ Oct 29 2016, 06:51 AM)
haha my license will expire end of this year. Thinking of renewing it some other year since I am in a tight budget.
Might be leaving the HAM scene for a while I guess until I feel like transmitting again.

Last HAM activity I would join would be the Fox Hunt in Melaka organized by MMU in December.

p/s:
Honestly, some HAM can be quite toxic. Asked about "Application Fee" earlier this week in an FB group and some guy said

I don't get with people who makes condescending remarks. For the record, HAM is not about calculating and knowing every single fees to pay to SKMM ffs.

Proceed to tell that maybe I'll stop renewing my license for a while and got the "Ini hobi berbayar. Kalau tak bayar, kena setengah juta saman "Anda buat Anda dapat...." "
Again, for fucks sake, when did I tell him that I was going to become a pirate transmitter all of the sudden?

Oh well, that's a mini rant from me. Maybe some people lack achievement in life that they urge the sense to keep condescending people over everything.

Also, update on me obtaining CW(9M2) probably has to wait. Been busy with work I totally forgot to practice any CW over the past months hahaha. I could transmit but I still can't receive very well. Probably next year then.

Also, leaving this here: If anybody needs help with Motorola Mototrbo radios, I can help. I can even do magic with it. *Cough*

Think the only define the maximum validity of a live license but not the validity of an expired license. Guess you can just go renew your AA with the expired one if you decided to one day lol
*
But max is 5 years then ur callsign can be applied by new user
