i think u nid to have both same size same brand same speed to run raid 0 or raid 1 to let ur system stable. u cnt create array if ur using 2 different hdd

AFAIK

you can raid two different size and make of hdd

it is just that:

1. for raid-0 (striping) the total is the lowest size times 2. eg: 200gb + 320gb = 400gb, (the 320 will only utilize 200gb only). this is also same with raid-1, except raid-1 is mirroring, so the total for the above drives is 200gb only(as the lowest is 200gb, so the 320 will use up to 200gb to mirror a.k.a copy exactly what the initial 200gb has.

2. it is said by some one here in LYN, that using different size and make will tax your raid chip, since different make have different specifications.

Only if the converter is a bad one. Otherwise, it works perfectly fine.

i wanna ask i got slight problem with my Seagate ST380011A Barracuda 7200RPM (80GB). The performance is getting slower in windows xp. the weird thing is, there's some kinda interval hard disk busy activity after 5-7 seconds and it wont take long. CPU is idle and no virus were detected. then i try to reformat and repartition my disk. reinstalling windows xp also there's that interval busy activity occured. also my installtion of winxp become somewhat longer than normal (winxp cd no scratch) all i saw my disk keep on busy than usual during winxp installation which made my fresh installation becomes abit longer for sure.

now in fresh windows xp, sometime still heard that interval busy activity..let me ilustrated with my best imagination

.............................(no HDD activity for 5-7secs)..............................KRIKKKKKKKKKKK (for 1-2 seconds, some kinda reading huge data).................................................KRRRIIIIKKKKKKKKKKK (again)

I check thru SMART info

ID Attribute Description Threshold Value Worst Data Status
01 Raw Read Error Rate 6 57 52 8963550 OK: Value is normal
ID Attribute Description Threshold Value Worst Data Status
07 Seek Error Rate 30 89 60 905342955 OK: Value is normal
ID Attribute Description Threshold Value Worst Data Status
C3 Hardware ECC Recovered 0 57 52 8963550 OK: Always passes

The value is normal when google it, benchmark it seems to be normal at speed and also check thru Seagate Seatools my HDD PASSED

do you use the same hard disk as mine? any soultion or what is the problem guys? hmm.gif

i dont think because of lack or ram. mine 1GB already with p4HT 3.4G running with a fresh installation WINXP now. it should be fast and speedy with this fresh copy, but i keep getting busy hard disk more than usual. is something like u disable the swap file or disable the L2 cache of your processor to illustrate the slow

i would suggest, good ventilation, my 4 harddisks stacked side by side almost 4 years without issue. tempreture keep between 35 to 48 should be ok ... my on load harddisk tempreture is about 48 when i playing game and stuff.

even when im torrenting ... the tempreture is around 42 only.

also another important thing is the voltage. make sure your PSU has enoght power to supply to your all your harddisk. or else your harddisk start up will have ...vrrrrrr...tek... vrrrrrr...tek.......

my PC start up on 120GB sata1 is like only 20 sen ... without any issue.

just make sure on that lar... i believe harddisk dont die so easily... no big bumb or drop... it should last for more then 6 years .

my PC spec

Enlight 450W PSU
Intel 3.0EGhz
2GB Value Ram
2x 120 GB (sata)
1x 320 GB (Pata)
1x 250 GB (sata)
1x 320 GB (USB)
Nvidia 6600GT AGP
1 CDRW and 1 DVDRW
