QUOTE(kardock @ Jul 1 2005, 09:56 PM)
what's the different between low action settings and high action settings ? how to know whether my bass is high or low ?

ben_ang, the pickup can be change or not ?
*
I dunno about the real truth of strings action but I can tell u based on my experience.

Playing with a high action, although it requires more strength but you can reach the strings easily and like ben said, when u play hard u will not get the string buzz. But for slapping, it's better to have lower action becoz the fundamental method of slapping tone is string hitting a fret at the place where u slap it.

Try to slide in a finger between the fretboard and the string, if u can slide through u have pretty damn high action there laugh.gif

Really, it's all up to u where u feel comfortable. I dun think it's genre-related. More to personal preferences.

The power of J-pickup...it's single-coil, warm and cleaner tone. P-pickup is the way to go for raw, less clean tones. smile.gif

Why? Changing to new one? laugh.gif

QUOTE([GeNe] @ Jul 9 2005, 08:41 PM)
I was just wondering if there really was a way to play base on a normal amp and not a bass amp. Cause a friend of mine played a whole gig not realizing he wasn't using a bass amp and surprisingly it didn't blow. This out of luck?
*
Nah...guitar amp can stand it...adding to Monny explaination, in long run, you might ruin the speakers or other component.

it's good to be multi-instrumentalist, man...just go for it. U got the dough, go get it! laugh.gif

If i have some dough, i'll spend it on a 7-string guitar and a drumset. I admire these two instruments hehehe~ smile.gif

walau, jz played bass ma whole life nia, tried guitar a bit but dun like it. the sound of bass is so satisfying la dudes! but nw studying in malacca, no bass to play with. can recommend any cheap ones ar? need it desperately, ma frens nw playing acoustix like crazy, must add sum bass baru oomph! btw, wanna ask yall ar, fr example if u have a guitar chord and u wanna play bass with it, hw yall add extra creativity to the chords ar? by scalings or wat? coz i normally use scalings only, quite boring.
*
You played bass the whole life but don't have a bass? Wah lau...how u can still sustain your interest? Salute! happy.gif
Cheap bass --> I recommand SX, Squier, Ibanez GIO, Craftsman.

Commonly i just scale a bit or slide a bit. Sometimes harmonics...

QUOTE(bomberkenny @ Jul 23 2005, 12:03 AM)
got 1 question, you guys know the white colour thing that is on the neck of the bass... that "thing", like ivory... my description is very bad sorry guys.. but for my bass that "thing" is out of position like shifted to the E string side (4 string bass). This is caused by the pulling of the E string which makes the thing go to the left side, so i have to use some super glue to fix that thing in place..... was that a wise thing to do?
*
Hahaha, i dun really get it either, but i also think u mean the nut...well, if u broke the nut, it's best to get it fix properly at guitar repair shop.

damn, miss my bass so much la. i'm in college and my bass is at home lying alone in my empty room. she must be missing me as much as i miss her. dun worry babe, when i get home, we'll be together.
*
Man, i miss my bass too. So bz with all this gaming thing i hardly touch it. sad.gif

QUOTE(bomberkenny @ Aug 2 2005, 10:18 PM)
can you guys tell me what is slapping all about, how did you start acquiring this technique and what is required to learn this? I've been immitating some professional bassist but that doesn't help me to learn this technique.
And can you recommend some scales to help me sharpen my skills? What scales do you usually practice and does which scales is good to practice to play in churches? (I most expected TheWhacker to give some good suggestions because you play in church too right?)
1 more newb question.... when you practice, do you always plugged your bass to the amp? or you can just practice without the amp?
*
Please any taiko out there answer this question especially the slapping part coz I'm on the same wagon laugh.gif

You can practice without amp, but u hear less of course and u will pluck harder to hear the sound. So, to some, they bring the habit even on stage. Wheater it's good or not, it's on the player view itself.

i always thought about lossening the strings when i not playing
then i think for a while
the neck is set to withstand that tension with the strings in tune..
so if u loosen it, won't that make the neck bow ?

chapree, got sell the demo ar ?
hhaha
*
might be, but usually loosening the string are recommanded if u not playing the bass for a long period.

Got got...you want? smile.gif
