QUOTE(smileguy @ Mar 2 2011, 09:03 AM) really? I beg to differ..no use if we have a new provider but cant meet the needs of the customers..like for example, doing the basic thing of providing the service nationwide for one..and even if we get new provider, that provider needs to do well in actually getting some content that customers want and need..for one, try getting some of those exclusive astro content that viewers like..im in no way backing astro here, but I dont really have high hopes for any new provider in this country unless they can achieve the things I have stated..and also price wise, thats a whole new factor..how many people have switched from astro to Unifi fr content and pricing reasons..? |

Yah right too even astro shows no interest to wat customers want but more interest is shown in making profits, until today no races in malaysia who speak so many dialects hv their own channels i.e even after 15 years with measat 1,2,3 launched !!We must folllow singapore, bring in all the availibale channels, customer chooses but here astro chooses not customer! Unifi wl never make it without going natiowide at startoff. Mitv was an excellent competitor but had to go! im in no way backing astro here, but I dont really have high hopes for any new provider in this country unless they can achieve the things I have stated..and also price wise, thats a whole new factor..how many people have switched from astro to Unifi fr content and pricing reasons..? |

Mitv was an excellent competitor but had to go! thats my point..even if u have a new provider, but they cant at the very least go nationwide, then whats the point? Lets say unifi..they have not gone nationwide, and to places they have, they dont or cant show what astro currently hold as exclusive rights..and not to mention, not all households in Malaysia would go for unifi seeing that their price for IPTV includes bundled stuff that u must have..so where does that give an option to the customers?the best way a provider can do is set up, go nationwide, get some of the content off astro hands, and provide reasonable price and packages for customers..but aint gonna happen is it? easier said than done.. Getting content out of Astro's hands means outbidding astro for the rights . Obviously Astro will counter bid .e pushing up the price for us. |

Yeah ur right. I did't see any company that can bid astro in term of broadcast coverage, price and license programme.the best way a provider can do is set up, go nationwide, get some of the content off astro hands, and provide reasonable price and packages for customers..but aint gonna happen is it? easier said than done.. |

satellite TV is the way to go for nationwide TV coverage, however there shall not be any competitor to astro until 2015, because astro was given an exclusive satellite TV DTH transmission license for 20 years by our government back in 1996

QUOTE(neb @ Mar 3 2011, 12:21 AM) satellite TV is the way to go for nationwide TV coverage, however there shall not be any competitor to astro until 2015, because astro was given an exclusive satellite TV DTH transmission license for 20 years by our government back in 1996 Now the thing about this is, astro have had competitors past and present given other rights and licenses by the government too..whatever the specifics or terms of the licenses are, we have had MiTV, we have Unifi, we have 8 other companies that hold licenses to at least be operational and provide services to people in Malaysia..but what ever happened to them?Added on March 3, 2011, 12:52 am QUOTE(penangmee @ Mar 2 2011, 11:21 PM) Getting content out of Astro's hands means outbidding astro for the rights . Obviously Astro will counter bid .e pushing up the price for us. well..to be fair to astro, they won the rights for EPL this season and for the next two season after beating TM with a record bid..they actually went over their budget securing the rights yet there has been no increase in sports package rights yet or they havent isolated the EPL coverage as a special package on its own..they even added a new channel specifically for EPL..I think thats a positive thing although they could still up the prices for the next 2 seasons..adding the fact that in Singapore, fans need to subscribe to two providers for football at two expensive prices, we still have a good deal.. But of course ur right, to get an exclusive right or content from astro means u have to outbid them could lead to the customers being the victim..and u can guarantee astro wont lie down and lose their rights easily.. This is what we need for Astro HD.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « SD: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « HongKong & Singapore does have MPEG4 AVC for better quality(depends?) but certainly better compression. The bottom lline is, Astro's HD not sufficient enough for me, though I'd accept the fact that sattelite broadcasting's the main fallback. |
