QUOTE(Optiplex330 @ Jan 23 2011, 11:25 AM) That's funny. Every time I went to China, I have always spoken Mandarin from the airport custom to hotel reception desk to sightseeing to buying stuff from trader. We must have been to different places then. You're really one dumb dude, eh ?But I guess you are right. Gwangdong is the center of China so Chinese program must all be in Cantonese because Cantonese is No.1 In airports and hotel in Malaysia, the custom and receptionist also speak English, does that mean that ALL malaysians know how to speak English ? You should mix more with a lot of these commoners especially the older generation ! I have been to china many more times than you. Try to watch taiwanese hokkien serials, and you'll know a lot of older generation don't speak mandarin but only hokkien. If you're rich, then fly to taiwan yourself. Only dogmatic people like you say cantonese is number 1, I didn't say that. I say that it is alright for people to learn their mother tongue be it cantonese, hokkien or hakka. Only losers like you ONLY know mandarin. Reminds me of those Miss chinese international competition held in TVB every year, I noticed that Malaysian contestants can speak cantonese and mandarin, only losers like YOU and singaporean contestants need a translator. talking about mandarin, the north western mandarin slangs are very hard to understand, like they are from mars LOL
actually current state of mandarin was the chinese slang spoken by the Manchurian who ruled china during the qing dynasty who had their own and entirely different spoken and writing language than Han people, compare to earlier ming dynasty they spoke with jiangsu slang, originated from one of the Three Kingdom slang This post has been edited by neb: Jan 23 2011, 01:52 PM |

QUOTE(Optiplex330 @ Jan 23 2011, 09:43 AM) I don't know which channel because I seldom watch them. All I know was, the few time that I did saw them, those program I have earlier seen in cinema were in Mandarin but now it is in Cantonese on Astro on a later date. Wah Lai Toi is a cantonese channel and there are more mandarin channels on Astro platform too. If there is demand for Hakka, Teochew and etc, I believe Astro would add those channels in future. Hua Hee Tai is a hokkien channels Astro added years back. Not sure whether you have a chance to watch those Free to Air satellite program from China or not. There are hundreds of them and I would say 95% of them are in Mandarin with some smaller number in Sichuan or something. Now if the Chinese are doing it, why not Astro and then everybody can be happy. And surely the Cantonese in Klang valley can understand Mandarin, if not, then it is a good time for them to learn. And don't forget, we are not in Hong Kong whereby everybody spoke Cantonese. Here we have Hakka, Teochew, Hokkian, Foochow etc who reside outside of Klang valley and many do not understand Cantonese. What mandarin movies are you referring to showing in Cantonese on Astro? and which astro channels then? |

I think we continue any discussion on chinese languages in another forum. http://www.chinahistoryforum.com/index.php...and-discussion/ This post has been edited by jalsrix: Jan 23 2011, 07:02 PM |
