Anyone wants to try this? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/140262-how...a-or-windows-7/

But it did put a note there "Note! DON'T USE OTHER DEFRAGMENTATION PROGRAMS AFTER THE OPTIMIZATION, USE ONLY THE INCLUDED MS TOOL, BECAUSE EVERY TOOL PLACES THE FILES AT A DIFFERENT OFFSET ON YOUR HDD, BECAUSE ALL TOOL THINK THEY KNOW IT BETTER!" - Direct Quote.

meaning only use Windows Disk Defragmenter only..

nice post Eugene! i tested it (after u post this). however, it didnt seem to improve my boot up. still need 30 sec to get to login screen.

for the sport, i remove the login, and tested it again. this time, with many services i make it as "Automated - Delay start". i got 40 seconds from Power button press to getting a Start button... hardisk stop awhile and continue running from time to time, but the system is fully usable with no lag. i suspect the 4 threads CPU can handle multitasking very well.

here is how i do it (i have Acer 3820tg), some may not make sense for u:

1. remove Ms Office starter (i install Ms Office 2007)
2. remove antivirus (i install ThreatFire)
3. remove acrobat reader, acrobat.com, etc (i install acrobat 9 extended without LifeCycle)
4. remove Intel Raid
5. in device manager, disable Webcam (i dont use this)
6. Download Autoruns, run as Administrator, disable the following:
- AmIcoSinglun64
- AthBtTray
- AtherosBtStack
- Acrobat Assistant 8.0
- Adobe Acrobat Speed Launcher
- Adobe ARM
- ArcadeMovieService
- BackupManager Tray
- MDS_Menu
- GREGService
- LMS
- Updater Service
7. Open Device Manager, go to Services, make the following "Automatic (Delayed start)
- AtherosSvc
- Cyberlink RichVideo Service
- Dritek WMI Service
- Inter ® Management & Security App
- NTI IScheduleSvc
8. i also ran the tool post by Eugine91

i now got got under 25 seconds boot time! i probably can get a maximum a few more seconds if i start disabling card reader, devices etc and uninstall non-sense software like Acer Arcade, etc, which i dont use often. it's fast enough for me, and i prefer to have those software there, just in case if i want to use them

Recommend 2 softwares:
1. PC Decrapifier - WARNING! SOME AV/SECURITY APPS DETECTS THIS AS TROJAN/VIRUS/WHATEVER. NO WORRIES,IT'S PERFECTLY SAFE!

2.Soluto - Shows graphically the time taken by program/driver to load (needs internet connection for installation, so far don't have offline installer)

Added on November 9, 2010, 8:47 amOne more thing....recorded boot time usually starts from windowz loading, not when u press the "On" button

if ur guys using the Boot Timer as reckon by Eugine91, u need to run the tool as Administrator.

after a reboot, it tried to clean itself, but it ll fail. u need to run as Administrator "BootTimer.exe /run" to properly clean it. here is how:

1. click Start, type cmd, right click on the cmd.exe, Run as Administrator
2. run "BootTimer.exe /run" from the folder u downloaded it

happy computing!

Sorry to say that you are slightly incorrect about using Windows Disk Defragmenter. To apply this method, you do not have to use Windows Disk Defragmenter, instead you should use Windows Performance Tools Kit. Just download the Visual Studio 2010 Diagnostic Tool from Install the Windows Performance Tools Kit Thread. It really works, but you have to let it restart your computer 6 times for optimal reduction in boot-up time.

Sounds fun, thanks for sharing thumbup.gif
Boot timer doesn't seem to work on my PC... wonder why? hmm.gif
Anyway, tried again with Bootracer and got 45 secs... Dunno whether their principals of measuring boot time between both programs are the same or not doh.gif

I do not really understand what you are saying. If my following explaination is still vague, just let me know.

The following is from the link you have posted:

QUOTE
ATTENTION: The guide only works if you use HDD (NOT a SSD!).

To get started you need the Windows Performance Tools Kit. Read here how to install it:

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=146919

The link I have posted is the link in the quoted text. If you scroll to middle of this link, you will see the download link for Visual Studio 2010 Diagnostic Tool. This file contains Windows Performance Tools Kit, which you will need to optimize the boot-up time. The file is much smaller than Windows 7 SDK, so you do not need to spend long time in downloading it.

yeah.. that's what we (those who tested it here) did.. or else it wouldn't work without WPTK..

I think the author meant: "If the Installation of the Web- Installer fails or you have a limited Internet Connection, download the Visual Studio 2010 Diagnostic Tool. Extract the file PerformanceDiagnosticsSetup.exe "

So the sentence " USE ONLY THE INCLUDED MS TOOL" must be referring to Windows own Disk Defragmenter..

3820TG is 7200rpm HDD right? Darn, I guess 5400rpm is the bottleneck for A42Jv
