In honour of proper dress code, tuxedos are only meant as formal evening wear and since weddings are held in the day, you will need a suit. If you want to look extra special without taking rules into account, you can wear tuxedos and other fancy jackets: the bridegroom of an acquaintance of mine wore a nehru jacket during their wedding.

Since financial costs can be a problem to you, tailor-made suit is off the list. Hence, you can try on various off-the-rack suits at retail stores to find one that fits you perfectly or have it rented if you would never find yourself wearing a suit for other events as most Malaysians don't. For starters, just let us know your budget for a suit and we'll start recommending you retail brands / bridal shops (with rental services) in accordance to it. smile.gif

Hi, Thanks for the info.

I think I can go for the common one. A Suit.
I don't have any idea the price range of a suit. Is it okay I say.... around RM400 to RM500 ?
So, Buy off-the-rack or Rent is recommended for me ?

I think I only need it for,
1) Marriage Registrations
2) Wedding Ceremony Day
3) Dinner Banquet

Any other stuff I need to know ?
Places convenient for me for shopping are KL/Selangor.

Thanks.

Greetings. RM500 should be able to get you an off-the-rack Padini / SEED suit (roughly RM350-RM400 coat + RM100 pants). You can at least reuse the suit in the future for formal dinners and whatnot. Then add in a little extra for a dress suit, preferably using cufflinks for adding extra flair to your assemble. If you are planning to go out these few days, quickly go check out G2000 for suits and shirts that are on 50% discount since they are having the Final Clearance Sales (which might be ending very soon) and see if there are any that fits your budget.

As for renting, I do not have experience in that but I have seen most of the bridal shops in KL offering rental services for wedding attires. If by any chance that you are in SS2 Petaling Jaya, drive around and you should be able to notice a lot of bridal shops there. I have heard that there are nice suits for hire in KL's Campbell Complex too.

Good luck in your search and all the best for your wedding. smile.gif

Also zsnipes, if you will be taking the rental path, do note that you will be using the attire for three different occasions (the ROM, ceremony and dinner), so you will have to take into account the rental rate for three days.

May I know what's this "dress suit, preferably using cufflinks" ? Is it the shirts under the coat ?
G2000 discount now ? Is it inclusive Mid Valley one. Which branch has more range do you suggest.

Mid Valley convenient for me. Is all these shop selling suit can bargain price one or Net Price one ?

May I know if choosing a custom-made type, what's the lowest cost involve ? Wanna get the starting range only smile.gif

for me, i'd recommend getting a custom made, its your wedding, its a special day, its your day to shine..

custom suits really depend on two factors, material and tailor:

material
depending on what type of material and quality of the material, if you talk about the lowest end materials, that would be polyester, their basically the most affordable, then you have mix wool (together with rayon or polyester, etc), and of course the most suitable for a nicely made suit - pure wool.. these wool's have grades as well, super 100, 110, 120, 130, 150, etc.. the higher the grade, the more expensive and more delicate and more troublesome to take care.. stick to super 100 to 130 for your suit, you can google that up if you'd like to find more about the grades..

tailor
the tailor would be the second determinant of price, if you find a common tailor store, their price range can be around RM600 for a two piece consisting of polyester materials.. and go to about RM1300 for regular pure wool.. on the other hand, if you look for more popular tailors, they would charge around RM1000 for polyester and about RM1800 for pure wool.. lets not talk about superfine wool now as that would start about RM3000 and up..

personally id recommend you getting wool mix or even pure wool and getting the suit done from a tailor you're familiar with..

hey ,,, fren ,,,, agreed it your "BIG" day ... but honestly ... you had to be honest with your $$$$ ...

as what to wear ... ( suit or tuxedo ) very much depend as where you host your wedding dinner function ... ( mandarin oriental ball room or just some local chinese restaurant .. and most important .. whom are the people attending your wedding function...

as for the budget for dress ... well .. set your budget 1st ... then decide as whether to rent or to tailor made ..... most wedding photography studio have it on rent ..( that is if your size fits )

be wise of your spending .... wedding day expenses can be a TRAP of over spent ... !!!

before you know it ... it going to shoot way way over your budget

have you taken wedding photo (no, i'm not here to promote my service!).

when you're nego-ing with the bridal house on package, get them to include the coat / blazer or whatever you call it. i did the same, the only thing i had tailored was my pants.

easier that way, cos after wedding you going to use it still? if not then just rent la, cheaper. well - that's what i did. biggrin.gif

the SHINE on wedding day is often forgotten soon after. your photos will be in the closest. smile.gif cut cost is good, use the $$$ for your future stuff.

you're never going to get a perfect fit when renting one.. on one hand, if you're someone who really knows the fit you want and you found a rented suit which is perfect for you, go ahead.. on the other hand, if you're someone who doesn't care about the fit and you simply want to throw on the suit for afew hours for two to three days, then go on and rent it..

getting a rented suit is worse than purchasing off-the-rack.. at least on your own suit, you own them and can get alterations done to make them fit you.. your rented suit jacket sleeve is going to be too long/short, your shirt cuff will be showing too much/little, your pant break is usually going to be too long, etc..

i'll rent a suit to my prom, but not to my own wedding..

of course you have to consider your budget here.. but from a sartorial point of view, i had to suggest purchasing your own..

if you're going ahead with rental suits, read up the links provided in the first post and the last few posts (link provided by lanatir) on how a suit should fit in the Suit and others thread..

im sorry but i just dont trust the bridal houses staff's knowledge, its better if you yourself am aware of how a great fit should look like.. you should read up on what type of color suit you want to go for (whether you want to go for charcoal/navy, etc), type of lapel, type of vent, number of buttons, etc.. at least you would have an idea of what you're looking for and start browsing their selections.. and from there you can discuss with the bridal houses staff or whoever which is supplying the rented suit..

no they wont, they could probably just do simple alterations like pant length, what you shld do is find a good tailor and get them altered..

thats the trouble in msia.. unlike the states, department stores which sell suits have their own in-house tailors which will be there on hand to take your measurements first and then start showing you suits within your size.. and then from there they proceed to pin up the suit for alterations to be done..

unfortunately here, you have to learn yourself how a good suit should fit at the body then bring them later to get them altered.. if you go to suiting stores like Sparksmen Shop, they will provide such service to find a suit off-the-rack, however for general brands like Seed and Padini, no..

Hi. I have tried asking some of the retail stores before and as Jind86 had mentioned, they will only alter the length of the pants. Other alterations have to be dealt with by other professional tailors or alteration shops like Za Altera which is available in some popular shopping malls.
