for me, i'd recommend getting a custom made, its your wedding, its a special day, its your day to shine..

custom suits really depend on two factors, material and tailor:

material
depending on what type of material and quality of the material, if you talk about the lowest end materials, that would be polyester, their basically the most affordable, then you have mix wool (together with rayon or polyester, etc), and of course the most suitable for a nicely made suit - pure wool.. these wool's have grades as well, super 100, 110, 120, 130, 150, etc.. the higher the grade, the more expensive and more delicate and more troublesome to take care.. stick to super 100 to 130 for your suit, you can google that up if you'd like to find more about the grades..

tailor
the tailor would be the second determinant of price, if you find a common tailor store, their price range can be around RM600 for a two piece consisting of polyester materials.. and go to about RM1300 for regular pure wool.. on the other hand, if you look for more popular tailors, they would charge around RM1000 for polyester and about RM1800 for pure wool.. lets not talk about superfine wool now as that would start about RM3000 and up..

personally id recommend you getting wool mix or even pure wool and getting the suit done from a tailor you're familiar with..

you're never going to get a perfect fit when renting one.. on one hand, if you're someone who really knows the fit you want and you found a rented suit which is perfect for you, go ahead.. on the other hand, if you're someone who doesn't care about the fit and you simply want to throw on the suit for afew hours for two to three days, then go on and rent it..

getting a rented suit is worse than purchasing off-the-rack.. at least on your own suit, you own them and can get alterations done to make them fit you.. your rented suit jacket sleeve is going to be too long/short, your shirt cuff will be showing too much/little, your pant break is usually going to be too long, etc..

i'll rent a suit to my prom, but not to my own wedding..

of course you have to consider your budget here.. but from a sartorial point of view, i had to suggest purchasing your own..

if you're going ahead with rental suits, read up the links provided in the first post and the last few posts (link provided by lanatir) on how a suit should fit in the Suit and others thread..

im sorry but i just dont trust the bridal houses staff's knowledge, its better if you yourself am aware of how a great fit should look like.. you should read up on what type of color suit you want to go for (whether you want to go for charcoal/navy, etc), type of lapel, type of vent, number of buttons, etc.. at least you would have an idea of what you're looking for and start browsing their selections.. and from there you can discuss with the bridal houses staff or whoever which is supplying the rented suit..

Hi, if buy from G2000 / Padini / SEED, can they do a bit of alteration a bit if require ?
*
no they wont, they could probably just do simple alterations like pant length, what you shld do is find a good tailor and get them altered..

thats the trouble in msia.. unlike the states, department stores which sell suits have their own in-house tailors which will be there on hand to take your measurements first and then start showing you suits within your size.. and then from there they proceed to pin up the suit for alterations to be done..

unfortunately here, you have to learn yourself how a good suit should fit at the body then bring them later to get them altered.. if you go to suiting stores like Sparksmen Shop, they will provide such service to find a suit off-the-rack, however for general brands like Seed and Padini, no..

I look around at other forums,
the Peter Tailor seems quite Cheap & heard got experience one. (~RM650)
Anyone know this ?

Even cheapest material from Tailor Made is better than Cheapest Off-The-Rack type, right.

*
of course cheapest tailor made will be better than cheapest OTR.. because the suit is measured to fit your body and it is specially personalized for you..

Yeah, I hope someone here been there made something...
Maybe i'll call up & ask again what's the material use, for easier letting u guys here advise me...

May I know, what's the Materials called BELOW GRADE of Silk Wool for a coat ?
*
basically there are many type of materials, you can't actually say "below grade of silk wool" because there's many factors when it comes to the material.. not just based on the type, but grade as well.. one thing is for sure, they are definitely materials which are less expensive, you cant expect much when you're paying that kind of price..

btw, when you call them up, ask them how much they charge for their services if you supply them with your own material..

Added on June 19, 2009, 1:37 ambtw, i know a tailor nearby my place here called 'Just Men' in Taman Melawati, his suits start around RM800.. i can pay him a visit and look at his materials to help you out..

zsnipes, the picture above by jaunty_niel is a great example of the type of suit some of the guys here are trying to help you avoid (my apologies jaunty_niel).. the suit is at least two sizes bigger than what he should have opt for, he didn't bother altering his shirt sleeve, they practically covered half of his hands..

and btw zsnipes, go get a proper haircut a week before your photo shoot/wedding so you'll look like a gentleman.. do not follow trendy hairstyles so you will not date yourself in the pictures, keep yourself well groomed, you're not going to a club, you're getting married..

on a positive note on the picture above, at least he has a dimple on his tie smile.gif

Most people fail to look at the details in formal attire. Because they don't always wear a wedding suit, so when they see it they'll just say, "Wow you look gorgeous!" Because, well, it's a suit!
*
indeed, i think especially in countries like malaysia where the locals rarely wear suits, therefore it is common for people to go "hey looking handsome there" when someone throws on a suit, even though it is not properly fitted..

Many others also tell me 2 buttons, but the tailor told me, because I'm tall (6 fts), it's better to have 3 buttons, the choice is mine....
Thanks. I think I go make it next weekend smile.gif

Thanks for info.
May I know what is high-cut lapels ?
*
your button stance can be higher, your body should already be long (assuming from your height), therefore you no longer need to elongate your look..
