Yep noticed latest firmware got some weird problems ....

1) startup doesnt work sometimes. Have to turn off and on
2) it keeps defaulting to composite video output even though I choose hdmi previously
3) wifi streaming has problems... lag or hang

Think i will go back to old firmware

wondering when we can get multi-channel AAC to be decoded internally and relayed to the AV Receiver thru "digital passthrough" instead of being downmixed to 2-channel stereo .......
*
actually u can convert AAC 5.1 to Dolby Digital 5.1 using MKV AC3 convertor. It just remuxes it, so no quality is lost.

Anyone knows how to revert back to previous firmware? Besides the factory default setting.

Hah.... I found the way to revert back to the previous firmware as below:

http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail...vekN5UFRSdGs%3D

I'm having these issues when using the latest firmware 1.05.04.V:

1. Longer time to boot
2. It will refresh while booting (black screen for couple of seconds)
3. It will detect the TV connection as Composite after switch on though I've set it as HDMI
4. Some .avi files couldn't play... switch off and on again, it can play.
5. I try to play a .wmv movie but failed to load at all. Does this thing play .wmv in the first place?

Very easy.

First you need older firmware files copied to usb drive.

Then use notepad to open the ver file and change the version number to a higher no. than the wdtv version. Save.

Plug the usb drive to wdtv and upgrade as usual.

why not, just use RCA connectors as usual..

btw guys, im using the recent firmware and no problem for me so far, or maybe im just using it occasionally and not noticing the problems tongue.gif. Btw, one thing I noticed after this upgrade is that no longer skipping when browsing the titles.

Any TVs will work with the WD TV Live. It's just a matter of using the right connectors to your TV.

what you could do is decode AAC to WAV, then encode it to AC3 with eac3to (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=125966), after that, remux the AC3 file back to ur MKV with mkvtoolnix, google around and you'd find what you need

I found this tool MKV2AC3:

http://www.avi2iso.com/forum/index.php/topic,1004.0.html

Looks like what I need. Will give it a try and report back.

@ adj - thanks for your input.

bro, I'm using Popcorn MKV Audioconverter.

The only thing is you have to use mkvtoolnix to convert your files into mkv first.
I only use it to convert Apple movie trailers that are encoded with AAC 5.1

Some of these trailers can really be used to demo your subwoofer and surround setup.

thanks for the tip. yes i stumbled upon the popcorn mkv audioconverter too. it was a toss up between the 2.

the MKV2AC3 tool converted the 5.1 AAC audio track to 5.1 AC3 fine, and took about 1-1.5 hours to do so.

hmm...should only take 1 or 2 minutes tops.

More than 1 hour means you're transcoding and not remuxing which is objective here.

It it takes 1-1.5 hours just for recoding the movie, I'd rather download a new one, which take not more than 1.5 hours on 1MBbps
streamyx connection, using premium account and using download manager (download manager can maximize the bandwith to its max).
