Could you or someone else tell me how the onscreen menus work with the Live Hub?

I now have the old Gen1 WD HD TV Player. As the player is getting old and grumpy I am considering an upgrade. I don't really prefer WD, but it looks like they still have a good product line.

I am considering the Live Hub.

The old WD TV HD had no real menus. What I always miss when watching movies is the following:

- Information about the movie. It would be nice to be able to directly read IMDB information when browsing the list of movies on the HDD.
- Information on what I already saw and the status (like %) of the episode of movie I already saw. Especially with series I never am able to see 'where I was'....

Can anyone verify whether these options are available with the new WD Live Hub? Especially my gf is always complaining that she doesn't know how to choose a movie to watch as it's difficult to check information about the movie.

Thanks

PCH C200 also has NMJ available now, now you can just generate movie/series infos/poster on the fly with the remote

It's still a little expensive though, at RM1399 probably they could include bluray drive as well like Dune players..

using windows xp is very easy.. just make sure
-pc connected to wifi
-wdtv connected to wifi
-change wdtv workgroup name, same as pc. DONE!

In pc, you can view the wdtv content under network neighbourhood.
In wdtv, you can view the shared pc folder under .. network something (can't remember the name)

For detail tutorial, i forgot the link (I bookmark the link in my home pc). You can also google for it.

Homeplug is a hardware for networking. It plugs into your 240VAC power socket, and there is one ethernet port. You need another home plug to complete the network.

In short, one homeplug for your WDTV, one more homeplug for connecting to your router.

How fast is your homeplug? It may be the speed coz the bottleneck - lag..

Another thing is that it also depends on how you share your files
With samba(normal windows share), you might get some stutter with 1080p files
Try using tversity to share your movies..
When you mention full HD(1080p), is it bdiso/bdmv or those +8gb rips?

Actually, it is indeed that easy to me, because in my router, I use default/setup wizard (by default, router assigns ip automatically
to all connected device).

-I turn on my pc, the windows automatically connected to wifi (after entering wifi password).
-I turn on my wdtv,it automatically connected to wifi (I need to select AP first in the setting, and enter wifi password).
-Then, I renamed the workgroup inside wdtv to match the one in my pc.

That's all.. I'm done. I don't install any apps whatsoever. When both pc & wdtv connected to wifi, I can view each others folder.

How fast is your homeplug, and how fast is your router. Unless it's a router with gigabit connection, all router wired connection
speeds is 10/100Mbps, which is much less than 802.11n (rated speed is 150Mbps or 300Mbps).
Your homeplug will be connected to router using a wired connection. Therefore, its speed will not be faster that 100Mbps
(unless, as I said, the router comes with gigabit connector).

At 100Mbps or 150Mbps, streaming 1080p movies will be a problem..

Sharing via windows explorer is using samba
Let's just say it's not enough for samba to stream 1080p files with wdtv live
Try using tversity instead, it should fix the stuttering problem.

Hi,

I tried using tversity, but for some reason, my wdtv doesn't playback certain files. Mostly the HD files. Is it a codec problem? Secondly does this method of streaming stress out your cpu? I'm just worried this may overheat my PC.

I stream via windows media player 1080p and its mostly ok, but conection is slower compared to samba shares.

Heard about NFS shares from some of the earlier posts, but have yet to flash my streamer.

Question about wifi on wdtv live. Never use before.

Do i buy a wifi usb modem and plug into 1 of the wdtv usb slots?

Does the wdtv auto install the modem? Modem becomes a drive? How do I know the modem is working, does it show on the menu somewhere?

Go to Settings --> Transcoder --> Set the maximum video resolution to 1920x1080 pixels

Yeah, you probably need to use wdlxtv for nfs share.

85mbps is probably not enough to stream 1080p movies
Try getting homeplug with faster speed like 200mbps at least
I never really use homeplug, so I'm not really sure about it..
