This is some good news to me. I don't like the fury fury touch. But how's the built of it compare to their previous finishing?
*
Build to me is the same. The finishing is just different. Feels much better in my hands compared to the old ones. tongue.gif

Sigma supposedly changed to the smooth finish because the old crinkle style finish gets worn off after heavy usage. The crinkle finish would peel off, and many users complained.  laugh.gif
Ooh you have a Sigmalux too?  thumbup.gif

Not yet. Still thinking if I should go for 30 or 50 tongue.gif Going to HK next 2 weeks and trying to find some bargain. Heard the sigmalux is going for 1.2k brows.gif Pretty poisonous. Afraid that later I can't control and ended up bringing both back home. sad.gif

Don't waste your money on 17-40f4L.
It is for FF not for cropped.
IQ comparison?
Tamron 17-50mmf2.8 vs Canon 17-40f4L:
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews...p=0&FLI=0&API=2

I find it funny on the ppl using 1740f4L with cropped body.
The lens range is short, f4 is small, not sharp and expensive.
Maybe it's the weather sealing feature they looking for. tongue.gif
*
Well, it depends on what you want the 17-40 for. Some go for the L, some go for the specs
I am a 17-50 2.8 user but change to 17-40 2 months ago. Maybe it is because of the work line that I do
In many situations the 17-50 was unable to cope at the speed I was going and the 17-40 was just perfect. First point is USM
Secondly is the colors and sharpness. I felt I could get better results at F4 over the tamron. I knew 17-40 wasn't the sharpest out there
But it gets the job done and lastly is weather sealing. In my work, rain or shine, you must still shoot
There are 101 lens rain coat out there but I felt I don't need it if I have the 17-40

I am using the 17-50 on crop, 7D to be exact and it yields much more consistent results over the 17-50 overall. smile.gif

@kimkoon: Do take note that the Sandisk extreme III is a much older version and it have been replaced with Sandisk Extreme
The Extreme IV is replaced by Extreme Pro laugh.gif

When shooting concerts. Try using a wide aperture or higher ISO. This is to help make the camera use a higher shutter seed. laugh.gif
High shutter speed is needed because it allows you to freeze the subject. Magazines and Newspapers doesn't like pictures with motion.
Here is an example from me. I was keeping the shutter speed at 1/200 throughout the concert
ISO was around 4000 and F10. No flash. If you ISO can't go more than that, just pump. Don't worry about the noise. smile.gif
I was using F10 because I needed it to be super sharp as my pictures will be distributed to the media on the spot after the concert. No time for PP or chance to look through my own photos.
The picture was on Hot Magazine website and The Star newspaper. tongue.gif

Wah nais  thumbup.gif BTW, do lenses still carry the 1 year international warranty?
*
QUOTE(niwooe @ Nov 13 2010, 03:56 AM)
if I'm not mistaken, they stopped offering the international warranty starting 1st Oct 2010 =/
Taking full body shots with the 135L is a bliss wink.gif
Yes, they already stopped the warranty. Usually lenses in my opinion won't die within 1 year if you know how to take care. If crap happens, I have always someone here to help me out. tongue.gif When I buy lenses, I don't worry about warranty. Only care if I buy body.

Goldy's advice. tongue.gif
You already have the first two, now left the bottom two.
Get the 85mm f/1.8 la. laugh.gif Or you want f/1.2 also can.  laugh.gif
70-200mm f/4L IS really rocks!
*
Go for 1.2 tongue.gif You would want it after playing with one. Smooth creamy bokeh laugh.gif

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Nov 15 2010, 09:14 AM)
michaelbyz23 got one not long ago. Looks pretty damn good if you're in the market for a normal zoom.
f/1.2 veli heavy and only 1/3 stop faster niah. C/P ratio not good tongue.gif

Besides.. saving bullet for a "PnS" after my S90 developed an issue with the sensor (dark patch)
*
Well, it's not that heavy. Still one of te lightest lens in my arsenal. The glass is huge though. laugh.gif

I saw you posted that the price you bought it for is RM4.4k. Can you tell me which shop in HK did you bought your lens?
*
I bought my lens from Tin Cheung camera. Basically I am staying at Kowloon side where all the camera shop is near my hotel. The price vary at every shop. So you have to go ask every shop. Sometimes you visit the shop, they tell you price A. After 2 hours you come back wanting to buy at price A, they give you price B. I don't know why but it is a trend here. laugh.gif

QUOTE(ianthow @ Nov 15 2010, 10:57 AM)
Because they are smart and they know you have been asking around for prices, if they see you coming back to buy from them, they know they are the cheapest after your own survey. If you don't buy during your 2nd visit and go to the next shop, the next shop will do the same (i.e. raise the previous price they quoted you) since they also know that you have been shopping around. The trick is to go for big chain with lots of sales and ask a different sales to quote you...  wink.gif

The other way is to ask them for a written quote so that they will honour it, if they are honest, they will give you a written quote. But the best thing is to survey prices online first before you go attack them, they can be very LCLY at times. The other thing to remember is the price difference between original set and grey set, make sure you know the price differences between the two...
*
Well, there are 2 types of shops here. One is those where you swipe CC and only they bring the lens and the other is bring lens then only pay. You don't have to ask them for a written quote. Just remember the price and compare. Tell you the truth, those big name shop sell at cheaper prices compared to those pay first then only bring lens shop(con man shop.) Here they will sell you all HK set. I have not come across grey set. Since in HK there is no more international warranty, it is known as grey set if you bring back to Malaysia. I normally don't worry much about warranty as hardly any canon lens will die within a year. smile.gif

Those kiss series is usually called by the Americans and Japanese. smile.gif I don't know why but I think it's to differentaiate the camera when being sold overseas. Like selling the kiss series in Malaysia, people will know that it is overseas unit. tongue.gif

Hi, can the 18-55 IS can automatically focus on object/face when recording the HD movie?
Need some advise on the recording movie on 550D, I failed to do that with Tamron 17-50.
Thx.
*
@Goldie: I thought you are not able to focus on the subject automatically when recording video like Nikon new feature. tongue.gif As you move here and there it autofocus for you to keep track of the subject

@goldfries: When he says automatically, I was thinking about Nikon's new feature. Autofocus will track the subject constantly. tongue.gif I never liked that feature. Always seem to absorb sound from the lens when it is focusing. sad.gif Can hear transformers sound when you play back the video.

If you guys want to buy, book flight to Hong Kong. I only paid Rm 300 return trip. Surely you guys will come back with 101 things. You won't get rip off if you buy at those big name shop and yet still get go enjoy the nice price. tongue.gif

I only find my 7D+BG when I travel. Thay BG alone makes me feel like I am carrying an extra 10kg. Don't know why, but it makes a difference when I remove it. laugh.gif Normal days I carry 7D + BG + 17-40 and 580 II with stofen. Still can camwhore and doesn't give me too much of a problem
