Sigh. I'm gonna get me a girl-on-girl connector and test my 'split- wire-to-external-usb-battery-pack' theory for OTG and external hard disk.

Also, my old buffalo Ministation (the one before the current version) has an external dc in jack. Theoretically, if should work if I jack a usb power pack to that - if I can find the dc jack usb cable lah.

I do think our best bet is the second option, but 2.5 hard disks with dc-in jacks just ain't popular any more. Which is a shame really, as the old Ministation is superior to the new one in many ways IMHO.

Here's a picture and an Amazon link of  the model I'm talking about:

If anybody finds this old model still being sold anywhere,(any capacity), please do buzz me. I need to get a few more anyway lol.

yeah, it has a DC in plug...

i already have a 1TB 3.5 inch drive, but i still use this 2.5 inch sometimes...

I heard this will happen in US near future because of FCC regulation. But idea on Asian market.

You're correct on both part. But even shortening the pins it doesn't always work perfectly.

Well, for me reading flash drives are more than enough for me.It'll help me in plenty of ways when I'm inside campus.
But that doesn't mean I'll stop working on making h-e-n detec my ext-hds

nod.gif Internally both micro A & B is similar.
*
" The OTG cable has a micro-A plug on one side, and a micro-B plug on the other (it cannot have two plugs of the same type). OTG adds a fifth pin to the standard USB connector, called the ID-pin; the micro-A plug has the ID pin grounded, while the ID in the micro-B plug is floating. The device that has a micro-A plugged in becomes an OTG A-device, and the one that has micro-B plugged becomes a B-device. The type of the plug inserted is detected by the state of the pin ID . USB host - has more potential, storage and peripherals.

Added on November 12, 2010, 9:47 pm" USB On-The-Go

The USB port on the tablets is a USB OTG, this means that they can be switched between client- (where you plug the tablet into a computer—for flashing and mounting cards on the computer), and host- (where the tablet acts like a computer) mode with the correct hardware adaptor.

You can find a USB OTG adapter designed specifically for the N800 and the N810 (N810 owners will need to buy both adaptors until a custom N810 adaptor is manufactured). These OTG adaptors will automatically switch the tablet into host-mode when plugged in.

You can also buy a "dumb" adapter that will provide the correct connections, but will not automatically switch the tablet into host-mode from most online and some in-store retailers. Then you can simply switch into host-mode manually. "

in N800/N810

switching modes manually.

echo host > /sys/devices/platform/musb_hdrc/mode

echo otg > /sys/devices/platform/musb_hdrc/mode

- so the conclusion is, the funny looking microAB connector just facilitates auto switching from client mode to otg when connected.

- using normal cable you have to switch manually to OTG mode

That's why I put similar not same  wink.gif

I feel N900 keyboard bit crampy.During my early days I used to make lots mistakes while typing. Now it better.
I think the extra space between the keys could have faster & more accurate typing.
*
i miss the qwerty keyboard on the e61i.

good sized keys, stable while typing with two hands. the n900 is somewhat unbalanced, top heavy.

was using the e61i a long time ago.

sold it to some forummer here....

Believe it or not,I actually never own any symbian device.Used plenty but never own 1.
Jumped to N900 from measly SE w580i

From my experience E6X & E7X series phone have too small keys at keyboard, something like N900.
But because of the size of the phone it's forgivable.

Anyone here pro at c/c++?
*
believe it or not... e61i keys were much better than e7x keys. the keys were spaced apart just right... and the shape of the keys as well.

using my e61i, i could type as fast as those fellas using swype.... (overstatement of course)...

I thought there is mistake while OC..huhu

Yeay!!! weekend already.. rclxm9.gif

btw..i really didn't understand well when all the sifu talking about the OTG..
Oh man... i really a noob..lol
*
not to say its bad. its processor yield. all the processors are tested 100% to work fine @ 600Mhz of course.

some processors have higher yield. thats why you see things like AMD Black Edition and Intel Core2 unlocked series. these processors are rare and can be clocked much higher stably.

great.... just effing great....

" Windows Phone 7 does not support freely swapping microSD Cards in and out.

Many commercially available retail microSD cards are not approved for use in Windows Phone 7. Use of unapproved cards may cause performance degradation or device instability including unexpected reset and loss of user data. A microSD card class is not an indication of meeting Windows Phone 7 requirements. Approved cards can be obtained from the manufacturer or Mobile Operator.

Once inserted and properly formatted, the memory card becomes an inseparable part of the phone.

Once a microSD card has been integrated into a Windows Phone 7 device's file system, it will no longer be readable or writable on any other devices such as computers, cameras, printers, and so on. This includes an inability to format the microSD card for use in these devices. Improper use (including inserting or removing) of microSD cards on Windows Phone 7 devices may result in one or more of the following:

* System error while powering on the device that prevents the Windows Phone 7 operating system from loading. Note that emergency dialing will function properly.
* Inaccurate reporting of available storage.
* Loss of access to or removal of installed applications.
* Loss of access to or removal of user data/media stored on the microSD card.
* Loss of access to or removal of user data or media stored internally within the Windows Phone 7 device.
* Overall file system performance degradation.
* Device lockup or reset.

Inserting or Removing the Memory Card

To insert or remove a microSD card, you have to reset your phone by using a procedure called a hard reset.

Warning!: A hard reset resets your phone to its factory default settings and wipes all data (pictures, video, contacts, music, and so on) from your phone "

hmph. can I transfer file through IR from E90 to N900?
I'll try later smile.gif
*
N900 IR is only consumer IR.

for remote control.

wont transfer any data through because there is only a transmitter, no receiver.

can send but cannot receive.

whoa! there are plenty of kernel available..which to install? penguin one or setting one?

SEA, your python method removed many apps..including my apmefo..so i have to download back apmefo from fapman.
but it require me to install back python2.5-4Q..something..
meaning i;m upgrading my python back not?

I guess I really need to get back on my books, the OTG thingy really distract me too much. EXAM!
*
a lot of apps depend on python.... of course removing it is going to break dependency for tons of stuff.

just try reinstalling Python for QT FULL. it should take care of it.

seems like a lot of the Nokia N8s are failing.

i wonder why.

nokia had a lot of time to perfect the Nokia N8 but....

seems to be overheating issue or mobo quality issue.
