California Dreaming - produced by Hoong Ern [LAME mp3 standard, 2m:35s, 3.3MB]This isn't my own composition, but I'm doing an A2 Music Technology course, and one of the projects we had to do is a multitrack recording - so I arranged California Dreaming (By The Mamas and papas) and recorded it. Any comments? I guess more of a technical approach to this piece rather than musical.
It was recorded over a period of a month(!!) in no proper studio, basically dragging my equipment to whatever practice room was free. The singers kept singing out of tune (granted they didn't have any practice beforehand)!
Track list:
- Kick (AKG D112)
- Snare (Shure SM57)
- Tom (Shure SM57)
- Drum Overheads (stereo) (AKG C451B x2)
- Tambourine1 (AKG C451B)
- Tambourine2 (AKG C451B)
- Electric Bass (Direct Inject)
- Acoustic Guitar 1 (stereo) (AKG C451B x2)
- Acoustic Guitar 2 (stereo) (AKG C451B x2)
- Piano 1 (stereo) (Shure SM57 x2)
- Piano 2 (stereo) (Shure SM57 x2)
- Flute (stereo) (AKG C414B-ULS x2)
- Alto flute (AKG C414B-ULS)
- Tenor Solo (AKG C414B-ULS)
- Backing Vox (stereo) (AKG C414B-ULS x2)
- Bass Vox (stereo) (AKG C414B-ULS x2)
- Keyboard synth (stereo) (Direct Inject)
I would have recorded an extra acoustic guitar + electric guitar but didn't have time.
All arrangements (scores) were done by me, including all production work (mic setups, recording, mixing, mastering).
The guitar right at the start sounds a bit wrong (it somehow was recorded without any High Frequencies, so I put some eq automation) plus you can just about make out the click track in the background. Bass Guitar's "G" for some reason was always a bit out of tune, the drumkit's kick wasn't a great sound, plus well, singing was out of tune haha.
EDIT: Oh yes and a big thankyou to my friends who played the drums, tambourine, acoustic guitar, flutes and sang
