thanks. thats very encouraging. well like its not that good coz its just me playing straight from my head, no preplanning whatsoever. i recrded the solo right after i came up with that riff so that makes it worse. lol

I must say, it's a leap of improvement from your last recording. rclxms.gif This one sounds pretty good, though you gotta watch out on the notes that you use. They're pretty unconventional and might not work all the time, however when used sparringly against the right texture/chords, they would sound great. Trying inserting some major/minor scales notes to inject the melodic/blues feel into it. thumbup.gif

Not a bad effort for 'kononye to release stress'. tongue.gif tongue.gif Gd luck with your paper 1. thumbup.gif

started, recorded and mixed this song early this morning before going to church. sort of a rush and improv effort too, but spent more time and effort in it compared to my last song posted here (and i still wonder why pix hasnt said anything...but anyways....).

its really a mix of different things from metal to classic rock to bit of blues plus techno with a pop touch. effects using boss gt8. listen to it in stereo guys! headphones are even better

not so much on shredding(sorry guys) but a more melodic approach to fit the song.

Damn, gotta love the thumping bass drum!!! Like you've said it, it's a great mix of metal and techno! Too bad it's kinda short, are you working on a full track?? Can't wait to hear the full one if that's the case. thumbup.gif

Do expand on the techno part (0:14-0:42), it's very catchy and imo the highlight of the track. thumbup.gif I always wanted to record something that's a mix of techno and rock, but never came up with anything good, and your track is really something I wish to do, cheers! thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Oh you've left out one good tip to listen to your track, turn it up LOUD!

Oh, we're all waiting for Pix's comments aren't we? thumbup.gif He always give a good balance of praise and critic.

sounds like a live recording so in terms of sound quality it isnt that good. i didnt like the sound of the hi hats and cymbals. ur drummer has to be more consistent on the snare and bass. the lead guitarist should be more daring and confident. other than that its nice.

ebp > you composed that alone in front of your computer ? that really is creative, i like all the different riffs and how you make them all flow from one to the next one, without loosing the spirit and the energy. The rythm tracks are efficient and catchy, giving plenty of "clean" space for the guitar (= one wouldn't be distracted by the rythm parts, just sheer enjoying it smile.gif ), and it's cool to hear all those keyboards/guitar layers bits all over the stereo space, reminds me of Engines Of Creation (Satriani). The "00:29" melody of the guitar in the middle part is exactly that : a great melody, with a perfect timing (for my ears... on a techno track, it's a must to fall RIGHT ON the beat, cuz the beat is so square and in-your-face ...). overall, you also have a great sense of making your solo sounds interesting, creating "harmonic" twists.

Now the less-than-great parts... the "background" stereo spaceship bit starting from 00:29 is a bit loud, and therefore distracting. The guitar sound is good, but it could have been better. It might be too "rock n roll" for that kind of theme ? Of course that's just MY opinion. It's hard to define exactly what should be the perfect sound here, but I would imagine it to be more processed, and smoother ? And maybe a bit more mids ? To give a reference, what about "Jemi's typical sound" laugh.gif the last thing... the fast strumming guitar at the start is a funky idea, but "I feel" the second strum doesn't fall where it should, it's off the beat, and off the off-beat too, so it's disturbing. I'm a total failure when it comes to rythm, so possibly I'm all wrong here and I should just go home and listen to a metronom longer... biggrin.gif

Anyway... refreshing, groovy, catchy blended with good technics on guitar and mixing... any chance you come around tahiti for a concert ? laugh.gif

We are currently 80% through the whole process of recording. At first we wanted to upload all the demo songs after the mixing finish, but then we decided to upload the raw material in "i-bands" since the quality much better than the one that we have before.

Bellow are the list of the songs that we have updated.
- "Beth"
- "Shades"
- "Fall Back"
- "If I Leave" (Just Released)

We still working on another songs, which is called "Smile". Right now we only have the "High-Rate" files for streaming and downloading (Not enough capacity). The "Low-Rate" files will be added soon.

We hope that everything (including the mixing) will be finished by the end of June. If u have any comment regarding the songs, please follow This link http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=293964 or u can write it here (if the topic starter dun mind)
We would like to hear more from you.

In the end, We would like to thank everyone who supported the band all this time That includes Loh, Tori, Ah Fatt, Ken (for transportation and the Squier) and Alan (for his Yamaha guitar).

Right now we are just looking for some comment and suggestion from u guys, before the EP is realesed. every comment and suggestion that u guys can give will be much appriciated by US.

For streaming and download of our songs, pls follow the link bellow:

Thanks

Music-wise, the songs are pretty good, could use a bit of originality though. Try searching for your own identity, even by bringing in different influences such as blues, jazz or even pop you could inject a whole new vibe into your songs.

I've only listened to 3 songs, Beth's recorded alright, but please lower down the levels on the orchestra/synth! Also the clean guitar parts are too dry and soulless. Even a little vibrato or delay effect could make it sound more professional, just don't leave it that dry!

Shades & Fall Back are not bad I guess. The latter has a bit of Creed feel. thumbup.gif

Lastly, regarding your vocalist... is he trying too hard??? It seems that he's straining to hit every note... maybe he should relax a bit cause it sort of creates tension in the listener, that isn't a good thing, is it?

Your band is good and has a lot of potential. For a demo, it's pretty good and should secure you guys some gigs but there are areas that need to be worked on. Hope to hear more stuff from Greedy Jane. thumbup.gif

Wow... that alots of comment heheh. so... yeah we realize some of the comment that u wrote.

For "Beth":
we already planned to do a little bit changes with that "Beth" song (guitar wise). Actually there are one layer of electric guitar which not in there (our producer forgot to un-mute the sound). i guess we have to wait till the mixing version.

For "Shades" & "Fall Back":
Thanks for the comment. quite a number of people said the same thing. we start to wonder is this a good thing or not. hahaah.

Regarding vocalist:
heheh to be honest i'm the vocalist, so yeah.. i will use this as my refference.

We will keep update. anyway the admin closed the topic that i created. so might as well continue the discussion here. tongue.gif

Yup, try to relax a little bitlar hahah... and make use of dynamics, as in techniques such as whisper, falsetto, vibrato etc... fundamental things like these could make the songs more interesting. thumbup.gif

California Dreaming - produced by Hoong Ern [LAME mp3 standard, 2m:35s, 3.3MB]

This isn't my own composition, but I'm doing an A2 Music Technology course, and one of the projects we had to do is a multitrack recording - so I arranged California Dreaming (By The Mamas and papas) and recorded it. Any comments? I guess more of a technical approach to this piece rather than musical.

It was recorded over a period of a month(!!) in no proper studio, basically dragging my equipment to whatever practice room was free. The singers kept singing out of tune (granted they didn't have any practice beforehand)!

Track list:
- Kick (AKG D112)
- Snare (Shure SM57)
- Tom (Shure SM57)
- Drum Overheads (stereo) (AKG C451B x2)
- Tambourine1 (AKG C451B)
- Tambourine2 (AKG C451B)
- Electric Bass (Direct Inject)
- Acoustic Guitar 1 (stereo) (AKG C451B x2)
- Acoustic Guitar 2 (stereo) (AKG C451B x2)
- Piano 1 (stereo) (Shure SM57 x2)
- Piano 2 (stereo) (Shure SM57 x2)
- Flute (stereo) (AKG C414B-ULS x2)
- Alto flute (AKG C414B-ULS)
- Tenor Solo (AKG C414B-ULS)
- Backing Vox (stereo) (AKG C414B-ULS x2)
- Bass Vox (stereo) (AKG C414B-ULS x2)
- Keyboard synth (stereo) (Direct Inject)

I would have recorded an extra acoustic guitar + electric guitar but didn't have time.
All arrangements (scores) were done by me, including all production work (mic setups, recording, mixing, mastering).

The guitar right at the start sounds a bit wrong (it somehow was recorded without any High Frequencies, so I put some eq automation) plus you can just about make out the click track in the background. Bass Guitar's "G" for some reason was always a bit out of tune, the drumkit's kick wasn't a great sound, plus well, singing was out of tune haha.

EDIT: Oh yes and a big thankyou to my friends who played the drums, tambourine, acoustic guitar, flutes and sang

Wow, nice recording... althought it does sound a little bass-heavy on my computer.

The mix is very good imo and since I'm a newbie here, I can't comment or suggest much. tongue.gif It must have took you a lot of effort to get it done, I couldn't imagine your lecturer being dissatisfied with your recording. wink.gif Well, keep it up! thumbup.gif
