aaaahh ! the forum swallowed my post, but never actually displayed it...

so summary : negative points only (which are more interesting, and you just assume everything else not mentionned there is super good laugh.gif )

- the snare sound (is it ? the flat drum which sounds like "PAH PAH PAH") is way too synthetic, especially when it's been hit quickly many times. I think it's over-mixed, and maybe not enough reverb on it (or disto ?) (or both ?)

- the guitar solo are not confident enough. hard to describe, but it's like the rythm is microscopically out, and the fingers are not pressing the strings consistently. I don't know if I'm clear... it's more like a feeling than an actual fact you see laugh.gif

All the rest is good (drums, bass, rythm guitars, compo), it's all perfectly enjoyable !! And don't ever tell us you're not creative... that's being rather modest wink.gif

modD, i like your japanese thinggy.. quite sexual, it all creates a thick atmosphere. Only at one point, the drums sound a bit dry (around the end.. or is it me which is a bit dry ? dry mouth maybe ? laugh.gif), but otherwise really good.

the metal track... mmm... can't even do half of it, you really master the prog ! but i actually don't like it..

nick_drake... ok, so the first 25 seconds are amazing biggrin.gif

next improvisation game is gonna be fun, if we all participate !!

HH7 /
the fretboard ripped song... mmmm... did you listen to it yourself ? my ears are still bleeding...
the second song, i like your rythm playing (i believe the main rythm is not from you, but you are the 2nd rythm guitar, right ? + solo one of course). But here again, the solo shows that you miss a bit of confidence on the fretboard.
Weird thing : when you play fast alt. picking, it's OK... as soon as you slow things down, I can really hear that you have a lot of work in front of you, especially when it comes to FLUIDITY and "strength" (=what I call "confidence")

B-trix > pretty cool, huh ! so your "Stuck Here" was done a long time ago ? Well, it sounds real good. I would say you could put some bends in there, though. But it's just because my name is Pix and I have to point out what could (IMO) be better.
The Mama's solo is cool too, no bend problem, everything is smooth and powerful. You want one critic though ? Feels like some of your pull-offs are not really in tempo... like you're running in front or behind the beat. Yet, it's very very very tiny... I do have a problem when it comes to nail those little things down to the tempo too, so that's why I noticed it... I know one guy who's real good about this, and that's Jemi.

Evo.com / very Santana_like !! the tempo, the licks, the spirit, it's all there ! Caramba, tequila y chiquitas !!! True about the scooped sound, you could have keep a soft and mellow sound, but with a bit more mids in it. Otherwise... what else... it's a cool and lay down solo, congrats smile.gif

Regarding the track, there's some keyboard solo (1:40 ~ 2:10) and guitar solo (3:41 ~ 4:13) ... a bit disturbing...

yes, i finish my solo already:
http://s34.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=23LK9BM...UN2P6Y23YGDY6SE

so about the solo :
1/ sorry about the album name and the comments... just joking wink.gif
2/ At first I wanted to go with some freaky stuff, without bothering about a melody, but then suddenly i noticed that it was the summertime backtrack ! that "summertime" theme came up in my cloudy mind... just addictive.
3/ I may have put the solo track a bit too loud, let me know what you think about that especially. Is it "normal" level or not, for a solo track ?
4/ Some timing issues... as usual sad.gif

led zep, sorry, I actually took the space right after evo.com, i didn't read your post before ! Just after me, there's the keyboard solo (and I followed it with my guitar for a while)... I wouldn't recommend anyone to add too much guitar on top of it, keep it breathing...

HH7, i never practise with a metronome, really... some times, but not much. I prefer to practise with a backing track, it's funnier. Yet I think the very important thing is that you devellop your ear ! No, not the left ear. Not the right either... they're big enough as it is biggrin.gif i'm talking about the Musical one !!!
Not to say that I'm a pro in this area, but I know how to listen to myself over a song, to know whether I'm being musical, or in the rythm. As soon as you notice your flaws, you'll naturally find your way to correct most of them.

Playing "themes" from instrumental or vocal song will also help you to strength up your confidence. If you're a fan of Satch, try playing Always with me, Always with you / Surfing with the alien / Summer song / etc etc... All the themes are really easy to play (I mean, the first few bars with the melody, not the solo itself !), but they need to be right on spot. It's very instructive. Or you can try to play "TV" theme, or any kind of more jazzy theme. It's all slow and meaningful. That's what you need in your playing : slow and meaningful sentences...
Hope that helps...

yep, keep it coming guys wink.gif and thanks for the ...

err...

1 and a half comments on my part. woow.
Thanks to you guys, I will improve a lot ! hehehe

Led Zep, oh yeah the reverb... totally forgot about that. Actually I was so tired, I was focusing too much on playing and overlooked the sound. I played with the JS, correct (bridge humbucker), through a Marshall Plexi Variac and a 4x12 Custom, recorded with a Shure 57 on axis, in a medium-sized hall.

Damn, all that in a red bean... biggrin.gif

The tapping part at the end is just a layer on top of the keyboard part, which is doing exactly the same tapping thing. So i was already there. i wonder what you're gonna do on the kboard solo...

let us be judge whether you have skillson guitar... then maybe, we'll leave it to you to judge yourself wink.gif don't be shy, tytons ! if you have hardware to record, pleeeease do so.

we're a big family, it's all done in the greatest spirit of learning from each others. let's be frank : genius guitarists are out gigging or dead.. so who does that leave in this forum ? laugh.gif

I'm gonna listen to the recently posted tacks soon.. so i'll just a comment for blacktrix :
Just Do It.

I've spent a fjooking night (7pm to noon) recording my part, trying and experimenting weird sounds. At the end, I did what I wanted to do, from a melodic point of view. Even from a "feeling" point of view. But from the technical side, I did what I could do : my technic was sloppy because my fingers were just so weak at midnight ! I couldn't do one more legato or one more bend without twitching my whole body to support the effort sad.gif
But I did it, and I know it's not perfect, but it will never be ! So let it go once for all and move on wink.gif You're on schedule here, and you're kindda paralysing the whole song...

I listen to your "preview" (sory about he delay, no internet during week ends... but it'll change sooon !), and I liked it, sound is good and I like the whole evolution of your solo. You really kept a whole lick coming all over the piece, and you include different improvisations in between. Very jazzy way-of-doing. Basically, I'm trying to say : your composition is interesting ! That's a great achievment.
Now the bad side : the lick itself feels too much like an exercise (well.. it is an exercise ! running down the pentatonic with 3-notes group) .. but that's about it when it comes to the bad side wink.gif

zep-man : i like your solo ! the sound is interesting, even if reminding me of the sound of the end guitar solo (the one which was already there), it's kinda exotic and weird, yet it fits the song nicely. At some point I feared it was going to sound messy, but it hold alright.
the solo itself contains some soulful and flashy (in a bluesy kind of way) licks, i can see you improved quite a lot compared to your previous pieces. that's a really good thing ! now, if you allow me to whacker you a little bit, i may just say that the whole solo misses "purpose". There's no "point" to it... deliciously pointless biggrin.gif another thing is about your vibrato, it's quite unmistakable ! laugh.gif that's cool, i'm jealous wink.gif But actually, even though it's all about personnal taste, but I'm not usually a big fan of short and fast vibrato.

ok, Good job overall (IMO) !! yeah !!

evo ... stop being modest laugh.gif you're more than qualified ! as a beginning, you own one pair of ears... that's the only needed requirement.
In the opposite, the better you play, the poorest critic you are : you tend to make a standing ovation to any kind of guitar playing biggrin.gif
(yeah, you got it : that's why i'm such a ******* when I make a comment !! cuz' I'm a lousy player)

zeroleet: you remind me of a certain sssslayerrrr... laugh.gif sharp, fast and totally in the tempo alt. picking, very impressive technique !! really clean. i can hear that you have a serious amount of theory background too, hearing at the way you play with arpeggios licks ? (maybe i'm wrong ?). even the slow parts are lovely (a bit linear though, i must say), falling right within the harmony.
i have some difficulties with your ultra overdriven sound... that's way out of the spirit of the song in my opinion... or maybe i'm just being jealous tongue.gif
