ASUS no charge... help u upgrade notebook or re-apply thermal paste with no CHARGE... i know i done it i own Asus G75vx(sold)/ Asus N45SF(my bathroom)/ Asus N55SF(kitchen notebook)... MSI don't want to help u upgrade... that for sure... i got recording my conversation with tech in Low yat service center lol (yes im creepy like that)

Edit: dell also no charge... they even change notebook just to make me happy.. without meĀ  intimidate them... i am impress with DELL... lol
*
I have no experience with Asus SC(my sister's Asus never rosak one, even after she buy Alienware to replace it) but Dell services was undoubtedly impressive throughout the 3 years I spent under warranty cover with the M1210.

That is, IF you manage to get a good service agent of course. The bad ones are about MSI level or worse.

But anyway, yeah, I bought the MSI expecting I would get a better build ACER with slightly better service and so far it hasn't strayed too far from my expectations. Well, it has to be cheap for a reason rite?

As for the warranty thing, I'm calling service agent miscommunication on this - a 2 year "warranty" with 3 months only free labour is ridiculous if true.

Here's the terms as stated by the MSI Malaysia website:

More details here: http://my.msi.com/service/warranty/

If they're not following this we can complain to MSI global for sure.

Under the details in the link. Free service = labour and parts.

If they're aren't honouring this we can bomb them on Facebook.

When it comes to faulty drivers, I've seen Lenovo and Dell do weird back flips as well, especially when it comes to the current spat of issues with faulty Intel WIFI chips. Lenovo passes the blame to Intel, who passes it back to Lenovo.

In the end, since 1 year back until now no solution. Both parties stalling for warranty period to end.

did you guy know that MSI use and buy their ODD from TSST(toshiba samsung storage technology) ... hmm odd for GT70 ugly... anyone know where i can buy internal blu-ray for this model?
*
Just have to check 12mm or 9mm drive height then eBay or lelong lor. Like for me 9mm blueray drive quite expensive around 500-600. Better just buy usb lidat.

1 more thing
did u realize switch the inner build speaker to stereo in sound blaster cinema will make the sound more quality ?
*
Sound Blaster Cinema? I ditched the thing the moment I got me lappy. Software "enhancers" aren't my cuppa tea. Not that it does much difference to my tiiiiiiny GE40 speakers lol.

Oh and I repasted with Xigmatek Freezing Point here, temps are a little better and it gets colder faster for sure.

As for warranty: nobody will notice lol. I doubt they will open it up and say "your thermal paste is NOT as MESSY as stock so warranty void". Lolwut?

Thanks bro. I can help populate the thread and answer questions but a bit too lazy to threadstart - now so old not much free time edi.

BTW, Payday 2 is AWESOME. Get it and let's rob banks together guys. Also, BF3 in on sale for around RM15 + 7 other games bundled together at https://www.humblebundle.com/. Damn cheap if you ask me, and it's all for charity. You get BOTH Origin AND Steam copies for 6 of the games as well, so it's more like 14 games for RM15, all original.

DAC is like external high performance sound card. using audio grade high quality parts. some with amp
*
Well, ultimately performance or not depends on the DAC chip being used. Buuuut that's an entirely different can of worms already.

Suddenly I got the urge to test out Razer Surround 7.1 software emulator after listening to you guys. Damn it turned my Koss PortaPros into instant surround sound headphones lol. IMHO works better than SB Cinema (it has EQ and other "enhancements" as well) and it's free too. Biggest CON, it needs Razer Synapse installed (bummer) but well, I'm already tied to Steam (Payday 2) and Origin (BF3) so yet ANOTHER always online piece of ess can't do more harm, rite?

Plus it can be configured to run as a separate "virtual" device so that I can turn it off easy when I want to listen to something without software mangling it. If only it came WITHOUT Synapse, sigh.

note: i give call product info 1300-22-1986 ask if i open back panel will it void warranty, if to upgrade RAM and HDD? he say yes void if you break the seal... wtf...
*
Anddddddd when I called back then they said no void IF install RAM... Granted I asked to speak with the person in charge of notebooks (prolly supervisor).

MSI service really sounds confused over their policies for sure which ain't good for consumer confidence.

shakehead.gif shakehead.gif shakehead.gif

Also I've heard that running 1.5 RAM on Haswell will result in really bad sheet happening.

A bit of old info but IINM it should still be valid:

QUOTE(MSI-MY @ Feb 20 2012, 09:52 PM)
Dear All

For your information, the "Warranty Void" sticker has it purpose.
Initially, once the sticker is torn, the warranty will void.

But, to ease our customer, that would like to change/add HDD or RAM, we will still accept unit that

1- Harddisk changed
2- RAM Changed/Added

If the sticker is torn but no HDD and RAM upgrade found, the unit will not be covered by warranty. It is best for you to ask your dealer (that you bought your laptop from) and upgrade it for you.

Hope this is clear.

Regards

After careful consideration, taking into account the mSATA costs RM500 on it's own (which borders on ridiculous but ONLY MSI has the correct, Super RAID capable part), I've come to the conclusion that I only really need a ODD HDD caddy + a normal "proper" SSD.

With a proper SSD costing about the same as an mSATA, there's no way the overhead can be justified even with the (proported) benefits of Super RAID IMO.

As usual, YMMV.

Now to find a caddy that I can "reuse" my old ODD faceplate cover with, to keep the "stock" look.

Got activity light? Material of the caddy, as I prefer metal if possible.

Actually I just noticed that the ori ODD cover doesn't really fit in that well to begin with. Thinking a straight matte generic plastic cover would "fit" better, so the capability to retrofit the old ODD cover is not really important now.

@Zakov: You misunderstand me, that's my intention as well. The SSD must be the main disk to be of any use to begin with. The huge spinner can go to the caddy.

Prolly gonna use a 265GB Crucial or Plextor of some sort. I'm not digging the SandForce trim issues and I'm not really keen on the really low MBTF estimates of the Samsung low end.

Currently targeting the Crucial M500 for the "extra" power save features it provides with Haswell.

@Storm88: Interested, but the caddy looks plastic. Is it? Is it screwed in?

Personally I'm looking for Alu for heat conductivity purposes to drain the heat off the HDD later. Although considering my laptop is hot to begin with - plastic to insulate it might be better.

All the games I play online (BF3, Hawken, Payday 2) are generally 30FPS able at high/ultra settings, 8x AF and 4x MSAA - I'm more than happy with that.

And yes, the system is taxed more when we're playing online, of course. More people = more things to render.

BTW, I'm in the neck of the woods using Government sponsored WIMAX most of the time so I count my lucky stars that I'm able to BF3 at all lol. Considering net connection is more a source of lag than the my lappy lol.

Hi, Just wondering, are msi gt series laptop cpu/gpu upgrade-able?
*
ALL Haswell laptops with the MQ processors CAN be upgraded. If it's HQ, no. Warranty wise... er... keep the old proc for warranty claims and be very "skillful" and leave no traces.

As for GPU, I'm not so sure. At least last time high end MSI lappies come with MXM slots. Nowadays not sure, I know for a fact that higher end Illegear lappies can be modded for the same reason, but MXM cards are rare and expensive to begin with.

@tonberry_ax: Of course, my personal "Power Saving" profile limits my CPU/GPU hard. I'm not sure I can EVEN play BF3 under that profile - even my Japanese "3D entertainment simulations" lag up.

To begin with, the GE40 self throttles under battery even on "High Performance", further reinforcing my notion that it EATS WATTS like... well, something that eats watts. A lot.

QUOTE(horns @ Aug 22 2013, 11:05 PM)
to be frank, it's a waste of money if you do that. there is not much difference to you if you switched to the msi extreme from your hair dryer (you don't overclock, do you? even if you do, don't do it on a laptop).

if you wanna burn your money fast, go get a desktop rig, get a dual-cpu board, add 128gb ram in it, and play at least titan sli plus water cooling.

who gave you the idea that the technology will be refreshed every 8 months? technology is updated everyday. however, there is no need for you to get updated that soon (the differences between the updates are insignificant)
*
While this holds true to you and me (and most other people) there are some who don't really adhere to this sense. Ever seen somebody change smartphones every month? How about every few weeks? This is probably the same, on a much larger economic scale.

Most people like to watch the "cutting edge". Some like to experience it once in a while (like me). While others still, like to be on the "cutting edge" themselves, as it happens.

But I do concur, if RAW POWR is what is being sought, than the desktop is the ultimate destination.

Unless, of course, you're a homeless nomad like me.

you are right; i happen to have such friends who change phones, or get weird stuff very frequently. i just thought if one is doing so well financially, he should use that advantage to do things that are more constructive :/
*
Lol. I fall into the "get weird stuff frequently" group though, once in a blue moon (often when I get stressed out over something). Understandably my finances go haywire during these "retail therapy" periods.

Maybe it's just that. Stress management. Not the right kind but stress management nonetheless.

BTW, I'm in need of an "psuedo-audiophile acceptable" gaming headset right about now. Main target is the Skullcandy SLYR (which is supposedly QUITE GOOD for something coming from the Skullcandy) but it's not available locally.

Now trying to get the Asus ROG Vulcan, as it supposedly holds it's own against the AKG 701. I really don't need the noise canceling but detachable wires and affordability look mighty nice for something below RM400 new.

Will you consider audiophile level headphones with wide headstage? A few of them are highly praised for gaming like Audio Technica AD-700, and of course for music listening as well.
*
I'd like to have a build in mic too lol, considering the GE40 mic is so... very... crappy.

I know I can order an external mic like the modmic or something but having them all I one for pc use (I have IEMs for other purposes) is convenient. The Vulcan especially so because it folds up. The baby bro Orion also looks nice (and is 30% cheaper!).

Also, there are some that think that the 700 is overrated (as in, overpriced for what it does) for gaming and some of the Fischer Audio cans are better suited. But even those have no mics built in.

Them modmics are out of stock ANYWAY.

@unseen: You interested to sell it (the headphones)?

Also, getting a 240w psu is fine, as long as it's has the MSI connector and similar voltage ratings. I'm actually looking for an MSI 120w psu myself.

@xFreedom: GE40 = Much better battery life, small size, rubbish built in mic. GE60 = Better screen, sliiiiiiiiightly lower temps.

Essentially it depends on your budget and whether you want a 14incher or a 15incher.
