http://www.rockynewsnow.info/ - Its a modified version from NewsNow and concentrate solely for arsenal.. It also filtered out most crap, unreliable stuff from the blogosphere .. And best feature which still chuckled me, renamed some team/ sites to funny names .. that one you will have read yourself, it wont be much of a problem to know the original team anyway if you are an Arsenal's supporter for a while.

or follow good quality arsenal blogs which often have good insight and fan-written articles:
Arseblog ( http://www.oleole.com/blogs/arseblog ) - good old drunken arseblogger who swears at anything that's not arsenal
A Cultured Left Foot ( http://aculturedleftfoot.wordpress.com/ )- decent writeup and opinions
Gunnerblog ( http://gunnerblog.com/ ) - same as above

The Emotional Highbury and The Grand Ashburton Grove

Highbury 1913-2006

For the majority of their time in south-east London, Arsenal played at the Manor Ground in Plumstead, a three-year period at the nearby Invicta Ground between 1890 and 1893 excepted. The Manor Ground was initially just a field, but the club installed stands and terracing in time for their first Football League match in September 1893. They played their home games there for the next twenty years (with two exceptions in 189495), until the move to north London in 1913.

Arsenal Stadium, widely referred to as Highbury, was Arsenal's home from September 1913 until May 2006. The original stadium was designed by the renowned football architect Archibald Leitch, and had a design common to many football grounds in the UK at the time, with a single covered stand and three open-air banks of terracing. In the 1930s, the entire stadium was given a massive overhaul, with new Art Deco West and East stands constructed, opening in 1932 and 1936 respectively; in addition, the North Bank terrace had a roof added, which was later bombed during World War II and not restored until 1956.

At its peak, Highbury could hold over 60,000 spectators, and had a capacity of 57,000 until the early 1990s. The Taylor Report and Premier League regulations forced Arsenal to convert Highbury into an all-seater in time for the 199394 season, reducing the capacity to 38,419 seated spectators. This capacity had to be reduced further during Champions League matches to accommodate additional advertising hoardings, so much so that for two seasons (199899 and 199900) Arsenal played Champions League home matches at Wembley, which could house more than 70,000 spectators.

Final moments - the emotions run high in Highbury

Ashburton Grove 2007-present

Expansion of Highbury was restricted because the East Stand had been designated as a Grade II listed building and the other three stands were close to residential properties. These limitations have prevented the club from maximising the revenue that their domestic form could have brought in recent seasons. After considering various options, in 2000 Arsenal proposed building a new 60,000-seater stadium at Ashburton Grove, since renamed the Emirates Stadium, about 500 metres south-west of Highbury. The project was initially delayed by red tape and rising costs, but construction was completed in July 2006, in time for the start of the 200607 season. The stadium is named after its sponsors, the airline company Emirates, with whom the club signed the largest sponsorship deal in English football history, worth approximately 100 million; however some fans refer to the ground as Ashburton Grove, or the Grove, as they do not agree with corporate sponsorship of stadium names. The stadium will be officially known as Emirates Stadium until at least 2012, and the airline will be the club's shirt sponsor until the end of the 201314 season.

QUOTE(kazek @ Oct 24 2010, 08:58 PM)
How I wish Rosicky would start instead of Arshavin.
We need Tomas's fire and passion in a game like this.
*
QUOTE(toshio14 @ Oct 24 2010, 09:09 PM)
the thing I noticed about Tomas is that his goal threat is close to zero. this, in my opinion is why Andy is being played even though his performances this season were not really good. Andy provide goal threat, while Tomas does not. i mean, when is the last time Tomas scored for us? i could not even recall that, maybe earlier this year in the draw against Everton (?)

maybe once we have enough goal threats in the squad we won't be playing Andy when he's not performing
*
QUOTE(kazek @ Oct 24 2010, 09:13 PM)
Good point. I really hope Arshavin would show some more passion though. At times he appears so detached. Lazy even.
*
QUOTE(funnyTONE @ Oct 24 2010, 09:32 PM)
Tomas cant even score penalty. I seriously doubt rosicky's shooting ability this season. His passion is commendable though.
*
QUOTE(sickx @ Oct 24 2010, 09:33 PM)
i would prefer them both with rosicky playing as cesc's partner.andy and nasri on the wing.i see rosicky nowadays become more like central midfielder instead of attacking midfielder.he battle for the ball and provide passes.rosicky is more like denilson when the latter was good.
*
QUOTE(Currylaksa @ Oct 24 2010, 10:08 PM)
I kinda like Alex Song in the 2nd CM spot, the other midfielders are more attacking/creative types.

i can see a substitution in the central midfield, denilson off for someone. maybe ross or diaby. and it's a pity we dont have vermy of kosc, djourou looks out of it there. good thing manc doesnt have a drogba, or else we'll be seeing drogba vs. senderos all over again.

I think Rosicky in for denilson would be a good choice. but then again, denilson did pretty well against kompany and de jong. We just need to be discipline and stop Silva/Tevez

Yeah. Rosicky or Diaby for Denilson and Fab to drop deeper. Happy to see Arshavin doing some defensive job.

guys..im watching with my dad..he is a chelsea fan and im a newcastle fan..but tonite we are supporting arsenal coz we hate man city..but damnit..how do u guys cope with supporting ur team? they have plenty of chances and both of us are screaming shoot shoot shoot but they still pass..last2 the chance goes..

i know but in the Henry days, Arsenal win matches..score goals..now they are conceeding last minute goals coz of the missed chances earlier..remember the sunderland match? miss chances, miss penalty...baaaammm..last minute equaliser..please do not repeat it again..beat the bloody city!!!

what if Arsenal manage to change that? wao..u guys surely are a dangerous team if there is some guys who have the guts tooo just shooot it..
look at barca..same playing style yet they will shoot whenever there's a chance to shoot..(just an example)

no offence again..just sharing my 2cents opinion. smile.gif

Rather have seen defensive minded player rather than throw on 2 attack minded players. Especially since Theo just did his "look ma no eyes" cross. LOL.

Thank god Capitan is out. Can't afford to risk him further.

Edit: Well and truly over. B52 just dropped his bomb.

To be honest, the game won on the 5th minutes itself after the red card.

And seriously with this kind of defend, we need Vermaelan back really really fast.

no, red card on 5th minutes is still early. City could still produce goals because the game has just started, they're on full energy. But they slowly faded at the middle of 2nd half. And 2 lazy striker Adebayor + Balotelli didn't help them too.

quite rightly so. I think he's gaining confidence and it's good to see he settle in quickly after the storm of attacks from tevez and silva.

good game... can smile tomorrow morning. biggrin.gif

obviously happy with the win. but finally, we have clean sheet. and a convincing performance from Lukasz to add to that. the save he made in the 1st minute was a match winning save

Fantastic games, and seeing Fabianski performing this well, I hope he'll perform even better as an Arsenal keeper.

Can't wait for Arsenal to come over to St.James Park for the Carling Cup match, rooting for them in the stadium next week icon_rolleyes.gif

Funny interview with Cesc.

"Cesc you're the man of the match"
"Heh? I missed a penalty how can I be man of the match?!!"

I have to agree with him. Nasri was MOM for me.

what we;re missing right now is defensive solidity. AND at times, passing were incoherent and nonsensical. but once we got the 2nd goal, it was all fluid again. i think the whole squad works on confidence, it's like drugs for them.

yup. i was already 'pasrah' and start to think what should the team do to get back to the game. instead, Lukasz had some other idea it seems smile.gif

not just that, he also saves another shot from David Silva (what a very good little player he is), 1-on-1 header from Ade and also a dangerous shot from Boateng. he also looks more assured in whatever decision he made

i also want to add that i thought the referee had a great game, credit to Mr. Mark Clatternburg and his team of officials

although OT, gosh Feyenoord...

anyway, almost faultless display from everybody in the team barring the few moment of clumsy tackles and giving away the ball cheaply in the first half. Thank god a good win and clean sheet.

Im sure this is gonna pan out like how lehmann got ousted from Arsenal.

In form Fabianski will play, ALmunia returns and finds out his No. 2 now, makes a fuss about it, then wants to leave the club. Almunia gets sold, and
Manone or Woljecny will get promoted to No. 2.

It's been a long while i actually got to sit in and watch a proper full Arsenal match. and thanks arsenal for the great end to the weekend =)

I think i wont get ahead of myself here. I still thought with 10 men they looked so threatening let alone 11. We havent had a good record against them recently and im glad cesc is back to play the first few passes that eventually got us the extra man advantage. Few potential turning points starting with fabianski's early mins save, the penalty and their runs and chances. By end of first half i was wondering if we would rue all those chances. Then it would have been same old same old.

Credits to Arshavin, he's been in for some stick for not working hard but although he doesnt seem to be at his best nor is he the fittest. The runs back to defend is good to sea. Keep it up russian. Defense not physically strong enough to deal with physical direct attacks at times with johan and clichy losing out couple of times.

Fabianski was faultless and just a little short of being great, if i had to nickpick perhaps there was one moment but overall he did what he was expected to do and topped it off with a few fine saves esp from Silva's toe poke. Ade's header and the other shot were right at him for the most part so at least that was what was expected of a top 4 keeper. But good job none the less and i hope he continues to go on from strenght to strenght.

Glad for bendy to come on and score a goal and walcott not bad as well. Both managed a lil run out and that was fine.

Cesc oh my, we would have lost the match for sure without him. Our creative outlet and passes are so dependant on him. I was surprised City gave him quite some room although i guess they had to after all the battering they gave him resulting in the attention of the referee.

I like chamakh's inteligent movements and run ons, when cesc sends the balls it almost seems like they've been playing together regularly for weeks not being away injured or what not. Im just hoping to see jack and cesc play together at the expense of denilson..

which brings me to him, i think if anything .. it felt like 10 v 10.5 as denilson doesnt seem to be contributing much to the cause - not to my eyes anyway. It just felt like he was a passenger on the team, sure he did try at times but he didn't really seem to make any mark at all. defensively or offensively. felt like a empty person filling up space. I'm not sure if denilson is suited for games like this although people once observed that he was quite ok against chelsea. I guess therein lies the lack of options (our options being injured that is ) and the fact he's back from injury and needs games. i would have rather had rosicky in place of him instead and perhaps switch nasri in middle and rosicky out wide. I feel that rosicky would have added more positively to the team.

It was still a really tough game , memories of games lost in eastlands are fresh in my memories including the carling cup one where i went away to :'-( Im glad ade came on for tevez as tevez really gave us a torrid time alongside with silva. All in all I guess everyone played well enough and those that wasnt really up to par can be excused having come back from injury. We still need to be more clinical, otherwise , on top of whats been said about our defense, it's sort of a professional performance today and it's a very refreshing sight indeed. Thank you Arsenal, you've made my weekend =)

Edit: i am reminded of fabianski's comanding moments when he came out to claim the ball and rushed out to potential 1 v 1s . That is something almunia hesitates to do very often and im glad for this difference. It inspires confidence in your back four as well. Massive credit for that one. Please keep it up fabianski, i'd like to see you do more an eboue and more and turn it around =)

And I thought Cesc was pretty average today compared to his usual self ?

Man of the match IMO is Nasri too . Incredible work rate and kept the possesion well , certainly cemented himself as the first XI . Oh and also as our top scorer.

Surprise to see Nasri not as mom. He played really well to tear down the wings.

Arshavin had 2 good assist too with 1 very good defending where Clichy god knows where he ran.

Fabregas is still not fully fit and his best partner r.v.p also played 1 or 2 games with him only so far.

Fabianski no more floppy for him. Not sure what he did but he certainly excell and probably surpass Almunia already imo.

Bendtner is back laugh.gif

And seriously the win is thanks to Chamakh for making that Boyata guy red card.

nasri and ross... i dont really know where to play these 2 if cesc's in the game. if i had to choose i'd say nasri center ross winger, as nasri does say he prefers playing in the center, while cham/bend can benefit from ross's excellent passing/crossing.

but playing ross at center and nass at right has its benefits too. i see nas scoring today, coming from the right wing. and ross at center is just like a wilshere playing as a deep lying playmaker.

Goals from Nasri and Song were awesome. Arshavin also not bad, nice assisting. Bendtner found his scoring boots too. Fabianski is c00L with great saves. Good refereeing with the red card, Boyata deserved it (high chance Chamakh will be scoring too). The only worry I have is with our defense, shaky at times.

Anyhow, now I'm convinced that we can play "physically" and the most beautiful part is ,we are still title challenger.

Nice win.

good result for the gunners. Only able to watch the 2nd half. Song and Nasri were my MOTM.
This team have some similarities with the Invincible. Nasri is fast becoming the 2nd Pires, Song becoming new Vieira, Fabregas = new bergkamp. Still lacking new henry

It's nice to see Fabianski going from strength to strength, I believe we haven't got a clean sheet for quite some time already.

Hopefully he'll keep up the good work.

to certain extent, man city is "physically; but they are open as well. Song had a good game, defensively and offensively, fast becoming the new box to box midfielder for us. But being a box to box midfielder, you need to have a more defensive midfielder beside you (just like paddy and gilberto partnership). Denilson is ok for the job. My concern is what will happen once Wilshere is available. Wilshere and Fabregas are an offensive player, Song now is more a box to box midfielder. Therefore, we will lack cover defensively once Song venture into attacking position. (Do note that denilson seldom venture beyond the half way line to accompany song and fabregas tonight)
Midfield trio of song-wilshere-fabregas too imbalance for me.

i think Song was more offensive this game because citeh were down to 10 men and their midfield is weaker with yaya at the back, so Song go forward sometimes with Fabregas supporting and Denilson covering

and it's probably due to Arsene's tactics, he gave Song the green light to go forward...If Wilshere plays, Song will be asked to cover the backline and do the dirty job in midfield

halo kawan, long time no see you post here smile.gif

all valid points, though there are a few that i may not agree with. will post something about it later on, breakfast dulu sekarang biggrin.gif

just want to say something about your last paragraph. totally agree on the main difference between Lukasz and Al. while Al hesitate with decision making, Lukasz always make a decision and act according to the decision. previously the problem with Lukasz (apart from confidence issue) was his decision makings more often than not were wrong, hence we always paid for that. that seems like being ironed out from his overall game. and last night all his decision makings were spot on. even when he went out of his line to challenge Ade header, which in turn Lukasz does not get the ball and Ade headed it over the bar i still think that was the correct decision. because Lukasz went out of his line, Ade found it difficult to head the ball cleanly as Lukasz provide enough distraction to prevent Ade from even hitting the target

all in all, very good performance by Lukasz. rupa2nya this is what le Boss and Chesney have been raving about all this while. he was my pick for MOTM for me last night

I disagree with you about Denilson. Denilson contributed lot yesterday, he provide cover for the back four and drop deeper than other midfielder. Arsenal obviously searching for 2nd goal at 2nd half, thus they sent more player on the foward and that was Denilson role came by, opposite to the attacking and you don't want to left a big gap on midfield. Yesterday, everybody work hard and no such as 'passenger in the team'.

woot!what a huge file that was.thanks!

what an amazing experience for me last night.it was my first time watching arsenal on tv this season after watching them on small box in my laptop.and it was my first time watching it with my college mates after i left this college since may.

overall, the players work their socks off and gives a fight that i seldom see in arsenal match.they cope very well with man city's physical approach.cesc gave dejong a lesson on second half.good to see that.and who would have thought andy can push richards to the ground? flex.gif

bendtner+walcott combo is back.i hope these two can be our two super-subs considering that our main eleven rite now is more or less like the main eleven last night.

about denilson's role last night,i think wenger switched his previous role with song.previously,it was song who stay back and denilson helping cesc upfront but last night,it was the other round.denilson stay back providing cover for the defense while song goes up and down helping both cesc and denilson.some of you might not notice denilson's contribution to the game but i think he's becoming our new gilberto, the invincible shield.lack of pace but able to cover the defense well.

nasri was getting better and better each game.i hope bobby can play his part in moulding nasri into a better player.nasri=new bobby, andy=new ljungberg? hmm.gif

djorou+squillaci..need to spend more time together.i saw sometimes both came for the ball leaving space behind for either tevez or silva to attack.djorou is still rusty even after several starts.some of his decisions could easily be punished by man city's forward.

and lastly, fabianski.what an awesome lad we have here.no wonder wenger insist on not buying a new keeper.his confidence was really on the high level right now.i can't see him replaced by almunia, not in the near future.

march on gunners.hope this win can ignites our trophy hunting season!

Good win, revenge is sweet indeed, even if takes 13 months to achieve. My take on the game & the players:

The game
It was a good open game, & no doubt we made the most of the extra men. But still, there were times when we still over-elaborate & not take shots. Example when we had Chamakh, Arshavin & Nasri (maybe.. can't remember) with only a couple of defenders.. on a ManU or Chelsea tht wud've been a goal, maybe... but we chose to over-elaborate.. to do that at 1-0, it could've been costly..

Fabregas' penalty miss
It wasn't a good penalty. U can see that the moment he pauses before he took the shot. Hesitation. & credit to Joe Hart as well la...

Fabianski
Growing in confidence, no doubt. Better decision making, better reading of the game. Sometimes his choices (punch/catch) is a bit suspect & that can be a sign of lacking confidence, still. But no doubt he's improved a lot & he's a different keeper than proly 6 months ago. I'd give him a few more games, maybe if he goes to the middle of the season without committing any stupid mistakes, then we can be sure he's a transformed player edi. But I'd prefer if we can sign somebody in January, just to keep Fabianski on his toes..

Arshavin
I dun really like what I saw in Arshavin. Incomplete passes, losing possession, indecision.. no doubt he contributed to the 1st goal, but other than that ? There were times when I wished Walcott was in there instead of him. He really need to buck up to prove his worth.

Freekicks
Again, we failed to instill fear in our opponents whenever we get freekicks just at the edge of the penalty. Nasri is trying, but failing... we dun have a player who can score from freekicks... of course we didn't have RvP & Walcott.. but I think we need a dead-ball specialist in our team..

Dont b too hard on arshavin la.. hes done very good job in creating massacre on man city penalty box & also not forgetting giving some defence cover for clichy at the back.. really2 touched by the teamwork they show last night..

however..dont forget..we played against 10 man..

hmm fair points about denilson, i guess i didnt pay attention to him when he's off the ball but when he's on the ball i just dont see him contributing anything positive forward nor when he goes in for the tackle was it very effective other than drawing fouls (perhaps part of the plan) but if not to draw fouls then the attacker would seem to just ride the tackle and move on. But thats just from my eyes and im not slating him, he's just back from injury and i know what our jr invisble wall is capable off =) just had to wonder what it would have been if our young jack was there instead of him. I would think his tackles would be more menacing (albeit perhaps getting sent off potentially with his willingness to throw himself in) and his forward movement and passes are more well thought out compared to denilson's passes, but thats just me nickpicking. We can always improve anyway. I'm just glad to see the team overcome a hurdle (it's a lil sad as well to know that games like this we don't expect to win so much due to our recent poor record against "strong" teams - but it's a burden shaken off as AW would have put it. I really hope we build on this. Man Utd esp are so there for the taking, we have to take points off them this season and get all points for our home games against the big boys.

I'm also rather glad that AW is starting to take CC a bit more seriously. I think trophies will bring in more and since carling cup final is the earliest. We should aim to win it as a springboard for further success esp when our team style relies on confidence to play well. Having said that, i don't want us to over do it but im sure thats what AW is thinking, putting a stronger team without jepordising our other challenges. Players like denilson, theo, bendy, vela are either first team or close to it and needs games, so does the likes of eboue, perhaps almunia/scenzy and johan + kosc too.. i think this team would be a rather strong line up for CC standards tho Newscastle are not to be taken lightly at all.

Ahhh what a great start to the week =)

I think Wenger will play Diaby, Koscielny, Gibbs, Bendtner, Walcott, Vela, Vermaelen or other player which back from injury to gain match fitness. Pretty strong line-up can be expected.

every player has his role, bro.in denilson's case, his role is not spreading the ball upwards.his passes are meant to be short to people near him or switching possession from left to right.yes, his tackles a bit reckless.that's one side of him that still need to improve.

congrats arsenal!

Man City midfielders are Godzilla.

They have huge and muscular body. They have advantage on that.

I think body size is first condition before City buy them?

Dont b too hard on arshavin la.. hes done very good job in creating massacre on man city penalty box & also not forgetting giving some defence cover for clichy at the back.. really2 touched by the teamwork they show last night..

however..dont forget..we played against 10 man..

Even it was 10 man, still we need to play some good football to score 3 goals and nowadays City not an average team.

i was watching yesterday's match, and i believe that my suspicions are confirmed:

arsenal are no longer playing with a traditional DM like how song used to perform last season. we're actually playing with 3 CMs, hence the reason why song is bombing up and scoring goals.

i'm just worried that with this style of play, we leave ourselves open to the counter attack. there were many moments in yesterday's game where even with a man down, city's attack wreaked havoc in our own half.

that's why i noticed anyway.

good wins, thou i said we're bit lucky to have 1 men advantage

Ricahs first half attempt, if it were Tevez, it would be a goal, Lukasz stand too near to left post, thus let Ricahs have the change to aim far post...

the yellow cards, i rather we "earn" that yellow with sliding tackle, at least let the opponent fear

on the denilson, he is really having stroll on the park, but this time he did cover song's back, not much move from him but at least he did his job well

Anyway, great win by you guys, that will show them who the BIG 4's are, which doesn't include them..

I watched the match too, even though I'm not a fan of either teams smile.gif 3 great goals by you guys, and some nice saves by Fabianski, totally deserve the victory.

And the red card was well deserved for Boyota too, they will surely blame the result on that red card..DJ should have gotten a yellow too for the tackle..

That will show them that you need teamwork to win, like what Arsenal did,I wonder if there are any cooperation in Man.C dressing room at all, based on reports that Tevez and the manager are involved in a row last time, and a big row it was betweeen captain and manager blink.gif even bad words were used, and too many big egos too..

Wonder if their manager gonna get the sack,he didn't even bring on Adam Johnson..and his tactics were a bit..weird? hmm.gif

But overall, great win, totally deserve it,Arsenal are still among the title contenders notworthy.gif

wau~this season is really something..2nd place shares the same points among 3 teams..i cant wait to see who will survive the boxing day~i am happy to see the teams yesterday. very industrious, keep on presurring the citeh player whenever the got the ball. Nasri is the MOTM for me~no doubt about that. and let us give Fabianski a few more matches. his refelxes are top notch last night and that is growing every match. i hope he can maintain that and keep improving! come on u Gunners!!

Credit to Denilson & hopefully Diaby won't play again in the 1st team. He is the jinx in the team.

I'm going to savour this victory for the whole week . Hope the team can perform consistently like this , and certainly will see a shade of the trophy . Weirdly , the nervous feeling started to dissipate the more I watch Fabianski handling the box . Good feeling indeed .

While regarding Nasri , though he isn't a natural wingers and having much different playstyle than Pires , he is indispensable at the moment . Brilliant close control and our best finisher , period .

As for the criticism against Denilson , I'm fine with his performance . It's his job to release the pass quick and sharp , and a job well done nonetheless .

great win for Arsenal...

good stuff:
Fabianski...great goalkeeping...he's getting better every game...almunia will have to fight for his place when he's back...
Djourou...solid defending...but sometimes a little bit slow...
Fabregas & Song..good midfield control...
Walcott...his lightning fast...love to see him get his full fitness back and play for 90 mins
Nasri..hardworking...and great 1st goal for Arsenal
Bendtner..run...1st toucha n goal......classic

not so good stuff:
Ashavin..looks lazy...a lot of his passes didn't go thru...but still great 1-2 with Nasri
Clichy..2 or 3 times beaten on the left flank...
Fabregas...missed the penalty
Chamakh...isn't really a threat for the man city defence...but he'll get better

now, when are we going to play Man U?? brows.gif brows.gif

there are a good depth in our squad.... if they are not out injured.
chelsea are looking great at the moment .. and we are not bad either. but its still early in the season.. so lets just hope we could keep the momentum going.

i agree with the squad list above except for i thought almunia is still out injured.

remind me how many game was jack suspended for? he will probably start if he's not anymore

every player has his role, bro.in denilson's case, his role is not spreading the ball upwards.his passes are meant to be short to people near him or switching possession from left to right.yes, his tackles a bit reckless.that's one side of him that still need to improve.
*
It's true tho but also like below, i think versetaility is important. Perhaps im taking jack's talents for granted but im sure he is above denilson now in pecking order simply because he can produce and contribute both offensively and defensively both injecting urgency than that. Denilson i feel is a great link up player rather than a stand alone brillance player (don't know if i explained that right) He definitely has a place in the squad and i support him all the way. Im also curious what is AW's long term plans for all our midfielders.

Clearly like lostasylum highlighted that AW wants to make more dynamic box to box type of midfielders and forwards that can interchange. Likewise my concern is also with the bombing up, there has to be some understanding for those not involved in play to sweep in and cover - players should take ownership and responsibility instead of waiting for others to do it. Thats my hope anyway. Esp with our full backs going up as well, what does that leave us?

Having said that city's attack was expected as they threw on players, them having lost a man is in defense so in terms of attack should have not that much bearing .. the difference being the midfield being deployed deeper with the CMs helping out the CB in the middle. I must say, when was the last time we actually had a "professional" experience? I think that is the turning point and I want us to keep having that instead of being an naive idealist and get killed for it. Im sure we can be a professional idealist. Esp towards the end where we were just knocking it about. Thats how i want us to see keeping our leads and being patient to score again and making sure we dont make stupid mistakes and lose possesion. Still to improve but keep up to good work please!

I like that nasri, cesc and jack all have the technical ability to dribble and vision to bring the ball forward and can also defend, the other midfielders depending on AW's plan for them like song developing more into an all round midfielder as with diaby too. I wonder whats in store for denilson tho. We know how the dynamics of the midfield changes with different personnel and i wonder how denilson shapes our gameplay and how best to deploy against what type of opposition style? What do u guys think ?

Ok i think im guilty of "analysis till paralysis" it's just to entertain myself rather than condusive discussion lol. I'll just soak in the enjoyment of the victory and the nice goals now =) maybe we'll see what happens come weds then we'll discuss about the CC match =)

cheers u gooners !

suddenly the "he's 5 foot 4.... we've got arshavin, **** adebayor" song just popped into my head =D

Yes, by now we can all be sure that we do play with 3 CMs. But still, from what I've seen, among the three, one will always be more on the defensive (not being a DM tho). Surprisingly, that more defensive one has not been Alex Song so far. It was Wilshere when he plays and yesterday it was Denilson. If Diaby plays, he will usually be the CM that is more on the offensive, constantly taking on the CBs. Yesterday, Fabregas took that role but he was battling the thug De Jong, so he roamed the midfield more than he stormed forward. Nasri is another midfielder that can slot in into that offensive CM role too. But only when someone else is available to take the right wing (Walcott is one). And also by now, we already know that Song does not storm forward of his own accord, he was instructed to.

Perhaps whats happening is that AW is taking turns to rotate them in different roles to develop their all round play. That would make sense because u can't have everyone developing the samething at the same time in the game. So jack's learning his defensive play while song is learning his attacking. Thats one of the reasons i can attempt to explain. And it would explain the sudden change of roles after sometime.. because after all .. to AW it's about the education of the players in their development as well.

i beg to differ on your view on chamakh.

chamakh has been a great contributor to our season currently.

how many penalties he has won, how many fouls has he attracted.
lets say the red card that he earned for us was the main point of the game.

it is not easy to play lone striker up front.
but he is doing it and he is drawing everyone to him with his height and physique.

this in turn paves the way for our midfielders to score.

chamakh has been hardworking for all our games this season.running tirelessly.
if you notice yesterday, a lot of through passes could have been onside instead of offside if the midfileders spotted chamakh for passes.

his timed runs and his aerial ability are his main assets.
a lot of times during the game i was cursing why did the midfielders didnt send the ball up to him.
he is a workhorse and unselfish.

arshavin though looks like he is walking in the park and not playing football

chronic blade bro you have been missing for quite a long time... sweat.gif

Denilson's role was never to marshall the midfield like Fabs does, nor is he an all-action dynamo like Jack is growing into. But no one does the link-player role as well as Denilson does; every team has to have a water-carrier for the sake of balance. Jack, whenever match fit or doesn't need a rest will definitely start ahead of Denilson/Diaby as we've seen this season, but if we needed to rotate Denilson is a better bet than the erratic Diaby. Rosicky is capable of playing the central role, but like Nasri he tends to be used by le Boss to support the flanks.

Dynamic, versatile CMs are what we have these season. Song's brave marauding can tend to leave the defence exposed as shown in a few earlier games this season, but Jack or Denilson, whoever that plays, have learned to stay back and cover for Song when the latter bombs forward. Which again, leaves Diaby out in the cold due to his lack of awareness and understanding of this role. Which is a pity, since amongst the remaining central midfielders he is the one with the best physical attributes and dribbling skills.

It's good to know what our midfielders are so similar to each other in terms of able to fit into the system, yet so different individually. Having the luxury of choice is better than needing to scrap for fringe players just to fill in the numbers.

Wilshere's defensive ability is quite a revelation although not a quite a polished performance. Add that to his already proven play making capabilities, we have ourselves a very good deep play maker in the team. He can always storm forward and even score some goals too. With Fabregas also on the field like against Shaktar, we have a play maker on the upper end and the lower end of the midfield.

I have mixed feelings about Alex Song. Part of me wants him to stay back and conquer the midfield like he did last year. But he's not doing too bad in this new role of his as well. So, let's just wait and see.

Bendtner and Chamakh will sub each other I guess. But I wonder what will happen when RVP returns. There's only one striker in our 4-3-2-1 formation.

I think Jack need to bulk up a little bit, then it would be perfect. Saw some similarity with Cesc when he was young.
I think he will be bigger than Ramsey.

Sorry ah, it's been too long indeed! I get your point and i can see denilson being more consistent albeit without being spectacular, with the addition of some spectacular long range efforts at the end of brilliant link up play. He is definitely a key member of the squad for the long season. Diaby has fantastic physical strenght and of late he rode a few tackles and carried on dribbling which is something only he can do in our squad because of his sheer physical presence. Couple that with his dribbling skills that makes him a menance.. if he tunes his vision and decision making he will be a class above many.

I share your sentiments about alex as well, but like the times when he did so badly i guess this time im willing to be patient to see it reap rewards leading to his devlopment being a fine all round player. I like wilshere's defensive willingness to roll up his sleeves and never one to shy away from challenges tho his is beginning to become scholes like not just in offensive class but in his tackles as well lol. now now jack, not everything u learn from bolton u bring back ok ? hehehe . on one hand i like that he isn't afraid to get stuck in, another hand i dont want him to be a dirty player, which he is not at all, but the perception (mayb fat walrus was right ?! -refer arseblog, the problem in football is PERCEPTION! lol! ) of his tackling like chamakh's "winning" fouls is beginning to pick up, which we all know they are more than that.

Excellent win by Arsenal.. Never knew it coming but well deserved.

Credit to Denilson & hopefully Diaby won't play again in the 1st team. He is the jinx in the team.

I think Jack need to bulk up a little bit, then it would be perfect. Saw some similarity with Cesc when he was young.
I think he will be bigger than Ramsey.

man.... i forgot about this guy. hopefully he'll come back stronger. biggrin.gif

Koci is back on the bench last nite but AW didn't see that we need to change anything at the back. after a few nervy moments, Djourou seems to settle down nicely. Squillaci was solid last nite. didn't really give much space to their attackers. I can see Djourou making some mistakes but i hope he'll learn from it. Laci should get a rest this midweek and koci will play with djourou.

wow... this CC game will be interesting. I wonder who AW will field. smile.gif

To be fair to djourou, he was getting skinned by none other than the skillful and pacey carlos tevez. But the moment he chose the no nonsense route by simply kicking the ball out when under pressure, I thought, okay, he's going to be alright.

I haven't really cared about choosing my motm, but I'll have to agree with those who chose Fabianski. Had he let even one in, especially in those early city onslaught, it could have been a different outcome totally. He played a big part in the fact that the squad morale remain intact the whole 90+ mins and City lost the interest and looked totally exhausted after 70 mins.

City's style have always been to sit back cautiously and then launch deadly quick attacks. But they seemed determined to come at us aggressively last night. Maybe they were looking down on us, maybe they thought there's no need to be cautious against the light weight London team.

i beg to differ on your view on chamakh.

chamakh has been a great contributor to our season currently.

how many penalties he has won, how many fouls has he attracted.
lets say the red card that he earned for us was the main point of the game.

it is not easy to play lone striker up front.
but he is doing it and he is drawing everyone to him with his height and physique.

this in turn paves the way for our midfielders to score.

chamakh has been hardworking for all our games this season.running tirelessly.
if you notice yesterday, a lot of through passes could have been onside instead of offside if the midfileders spotted chamakh for passes.

his timed runs and his aerial ability are his main assets.
a lot of times during the game i was cursing why did the midfielders didnt send the ball up to him.
he is a workhorse and unselfish.

arshavin though looks like he is walking in the park and not playing football

agreed thumbup.gif

remember his goal against shakhtar? perfectly timed. Just because he's not on the scoresheet, doesn't mean that he's no contributing

love to see theo running like that again.

yes, it's not easy for chamakh...and with those huge Man C defender...i also agree chamakh has given great contribution during the past games...it's just in the Man C game, 'kurang menyengat' lah...IMO, he needs o build up his pysique more...overall good game for chamakh..and he will get better smile.gif

Nah, Nasri and Arshavin both are better than him unless its free and very low wages.

Chamakh no doubt is the biggest impact so far on Arsenal as the new player and highly effective in getting penalties and red cards for opponents which is very good.

Still no matter how good he is i think the will be in 2nd position when r.v.p returns as a fully fit r.v.p i dare to say is better than Drogba, Rooney, Torres and probably even Messi.

Miss r.v.p a lot though tongue.gif

RVP plays a deeper role though....

Maybe a partnership upfront could be the solution?

AW=RA ? No way LOL ..

About the Chamakh discussion , I think he could have timed his run slightly better and work better on his finishing . Otherwise , he's already done a very good job linking play in final third .

TBH, I really don't know if Chamakh and RVP could play together . Both of them are similar type of players , unselfish , creative and linking up plays . We need a deadlier striker like Henry when paired with DB10 , and Chamakh certainly isn't Henry .

Perhaps we can reverse it to RVP as CF while Chamakh as SS(supporting striker , currently hold by Fabregas) but nobody would dismiss Cesc's capability up front . So ... this is the depth headache eh ?

Another thing is , we won't know when RVP will go back to the treatment room again tongue.gif

good to see bendtner playing(and scoring) again

he's a good targetman, and he's good with his feet too(kinda like crouch, but younger and can still develop)

what i like about chamakh's game during city was his deceptive physical attributes shown when he outskilled the City defender near the touch line on the left side and then outmuscled to set up cesc and nasri before cesc's shot was saved. That was just fantastic - a great display of skill and physical strenght even though he looks sorta slim to me!

Yeah despite the goals i still feel we lack an out and out finisher striker... i wish we still had dudu =( esp the pre-injury one. Bendy i hope he can improve on that finishing that will inspire confidence. of our pool of forwards i hope that one or two will turn into a prolific goal scorer. I like that chamakh still makes runs like an out and out striker like the one he got the city player sent off and for the 2nd goal which he turned and run but was blocked.. those were like off the shoulder spin and run onto through ball runs that an out an out striker tends to do and im glad he's providing an outlet for the passes to get there with his off the ball runs.

to be honest,i still can't believe bendtner could score in tight angle like the other day.i was hoping for him to pass to walcott but instead he put it above hart and into the net.give him more time and fitness,he could be our own drogba and by that time comes, one will wonder how wenger gonna fit in three targetman into our team.
