Just called maxis customer service to check on my data usage, but the answer i got is "WE R SORRY SIR, THERE'S NO WAY WE CAN CHECK THE DATA USAGE BECAUSE THE SYSTEM IS NOT ALLOWING US TO, U HAVE TO WAIT FOR YOUR BILL STATEMENT" ...... OMG!! is that true??? Guys, can someone tell me how accurate... or should say how inaccurate the data reading on 3g watchdog if to compare to maxis? quite worrying though.. cry.gif
*
I think 3G watchdog is pretty accurate. Maxis has the tendency to screw up your data usage.
In my case, the first 3 days they say I used 235MB and they prorate my bandwidth limits to 3 days. Meaning 500MB limits prorate to 3 days is 16MB a day only. Imagine how much is that. 235MB over 16MB. The bill was over 1k. Thing is I never used 3G that much! Crazy Maxis.

And NO, you can ask for your bandwidth count. I called and immediately they gave me my details.

On my phone, that happens even with OCLF, stock RFS and Voodoo. So far, it's been better with Universal lagfix.

Thinking of getting the Galaxy S from Maxis but am concerned about the lag issue. Is it crippling? Also, does Android in Malaysia still require Market Enabler to make paid app purchases?

EDIT: Am trying to decide between this and Desire.
*
I've been there, compared Desire and SGS before I bought SGS. I am not a fanboy but really, all phones have ups and downs. IMO, you would be happier, in the long run, having the SGS rather than Desire. Desire is not without lag too. It lags under with heavy graphics use, like in video playback, in games etc. SGS has more potential but unutilised so far. That's where independent developers come in. With the new universal lagfix, my SGS is really really smooth even as smooth as iPhone 4.

No comment about getting it from Maxis but Maxis is really !#$%^&*(!*#!! tongue.gif

Okay my hands got itchy and I flashed the 1.6ghz kernel... achieved Quandrant score of 3136 and 12.31 MFLOPS...
*
Wah, speed of netbooks on the market... Where did you get that kernel? Am interested to try... So how is it? Did you revert it back to original kernel now or sticking with 1.6?

Edit, found the thread. But don't know if I should flash it or not... xD

Tested Fusion 1.1 w/JACS kernel. It was snappy but keyboard was a little buggy. Music player hangs at times, and USB connection reboots everytime I connect to the computer. Generally, it was for OC purposes only. I didn't do any tests before switching back to default rom cause there's no way to get into nandroid recovery, the buttons got mixed up with Samsung Vibrant.

Switched back already... Was going to try flashing the kernel on my froyo but not in the mood right now... Maybe tomorrow la...

This is weird, my SGS doesn't seem to truly multi task. I was playing Angry Bird, and I pressed HOME button. Got out to home page and hold HOME button to get back to Angry Bird. And the game starts all over again. How come? The last time I played it, it continues from where I stopped. Now it's acting "iPhone" like....

Hmm, not that I know of. Maybe my rom has one built in.

Just wanna share this kernel. Gonna try it now.

how long can Q3 run continuously?
*
You mean Q3 runs until the battery drains? I don't know. Never tried.

Tried the new kernel with extra ram. It works really good. Could see 341MB now and it is so much smoother!! It's more like a Desire now performance-wise... drool.gif Wonder how it's like with OC...

Running base JPM with rasdeep OC and UV kernel. Using conservative governor and CPU fluctuates between 100 and 1200Mhz (100-800 Undervolt 0.50, > 800 Undervolt 0.25)...Quadrant with ULF Ext 4 ~1756...So far so good. Monitoring the battery now.
*
Hey, sorry for asking noob question here. I am using SetCPU and how much should I put the freq values? 200min - 1200max? And, put it in conservative?

I am not sure what your problem with. Try this:
Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > search for Market > Clear Data.
Then, restart your phone.

Nice silentser. Does it lag after opening 9 apps all together? Like stuttering when scroll between home screens?
Also, try opening activities, I don't know where but on LauncherPro when applying function for icons, will appear activities. And they usually take a whole 2 minutes to load at least.

or go to applications in manage applications. How long does it load?

opened the manage application.

and i must say it REALLY improve the time,
when i open it, all the application name already there, not like before most of it com.something.something
but all still show computing, wait another 10-15 sec, all done computing and then the pictures start to come out, wow

before it take almost half a minute to load all that apps

will try to search the activity
*
Oh, actually XDA kernels have that kind of improvements already... hehe... but still it's good to see it in "official" fw.

fingers i cant find the activities you are talking about, care to say what you do to make the activites appear?
*
Oh, do you have launcherpro. Then hold on launcherpro dock icons, then it will appear something like activity for the icons where you can set the dock icon to open contacts, text, etc when u touch it. There always load time about 2 minutes. lol...

owh that kinda of activities.

i hold down an icon, pop up change shortcut, icon, swipe action,

tap change shortcut, open in instant, tap application, all my application pop in instant. yerp, it sure is fast.... ( 99 user apps according to titanium)
tap change icon, launcher pro icon, open instant nothing biggie, custom icon, open up gallery, fast cant complain
swipe action, i dont think you care about this
then do the opposite of what they say
*
Wow, good news. That's more like a HTC Desire now. smile.gif

Best way to know for sure is to try both firmwares. Anyway, as for me, I am sticking to JPM for now, especially since I'm comfortable with the super-optimized JP6-JP8 kernel (currently on 3.3, itching to try the the speedier/newer 3.5 release). Will consider 'upgrading' if that kernel supports the newly released firmwares..
*
Yeah same here. I read that the super-optimised kernel is a general froyo kernel and it should support any new froyo fw.

i got silly question here, i can't get into recovery mode

5. Shutdown your phone, wait for it to power off completely (vibrates on Froyo, check buttons keypad light on Eclair), then boot the phone into Recovery Mode (press Volume UP, keep it pressed, then press HOME button, keep it pressed, then press Power button, keep it pressed until you see the Galaxy S screen. Release all three buttons when you see it).

anything wrong? what did i missed? lol
*
Looks like your phone came without recovery/download mode.

samsung screwed froyo, who's to say they won't screw gingerbread?
i've learned my lesson. no more samsung after this.
arrrggghhh this really gets on my nerve! this is my first smart phone, and its a total train-wrecked! damn samsung engineers!
*
It's harder to implement google's new firmware over manufacturer's custom UI. Google Nexus gets froyo immediately but HTC Desire only gets their froyo around last month. Even HTC with good follow up record also delay quite long. Why so angry with samsung? You have XDA devs come up with fixes everyday.
