melbourne used to charge significantly higher fees than others....

but the other unis have also increased their fees, and surprisingly, monash fees is equivalent to Melbourne now....and more surprisingly, for a 'simple' degree like commerce, the fees is an astronomical aud 30k a year now!!.....on par with technical courses like engineering and it/cs..........
*
For business degree, that is indeed very high, equivalent to RM90K a year. Much more expensive than UK's, even the highly acclaimed London School of Economic only charges <RM70K.

depends on what courses you do. An engineer grad from Utar definitely has higher chances of securing a job than one with, say, a philosophy major from MelbUni. And even at professionals level, they have their own competition. Do you start with a salary of RM2k or RM4k? That's the difference
*
Well, if that philosophy major is from Cambridge or Harvard, big international corporation will probably grabs them.

Yeah the fees in quite high nowadays and the AUD currency rate is pretty high though and would reached to US dollars in some point. So the main 3 country US, AUS and UK for education is not much different nowdays. But i'm wondering where do people choose for their education? Most people will for either Aus or UK (slughty expensive)? I'm not sure whether Aus is still the first choice for students as it is nearer to our country? I might just go for UK for my postgrad..not gonna stay in Australia smile.gif

Well apart of Monash's Humbleness and the rumoured Melb Uni snob, This is the best way to do it:

Undergrad: Monash

Postgrade: Melbourne Uni

Get the bets out of both!! xD

Agreed that the course plays a part.

From my experience, I would say that most ACCA new graduates are better than either Melbourne or Monash Commerce grads. I reckon that it has more to do with the syllabus and the marking system.

Having a degree and a qualification is two different thing.

If you wanna compare, then do this:

Monash, Melbourne Uni Commerce grads vs UTAR, Sunway, UCSI bachelor of business, accounting grads

OR

Monash, Melb UNi commerce grad with CA, (or CPA, ACCA) vs UTAR, Sunway,UCSI commerce grads with ACCA,( or CIMA, MICPA )

Then you compare.
And the result for local preference may not be the same in an international scope.
Marking is not an issue. as the distinction falls on quota,
there's quota for Pass-rate on Professional boards, there's aggregate scaling in University studies, but both are
totally different things.

Sylabus-wise is also very optional as different Uni provide courses that have different coverage of professional sylabus, hence exemption is case by case basis on each Uni.

Between Australia and UK, UK is the preferred choice where cost is more or less the same. UCL and LSE are better than Melbourne U for Commerce/Finance.

Your uni fees is not everything. When you really get into it, you will understand why I say so. Your social circle, your every-day activities, your attitude towards university... they're all different when you compare a melb uni student with a monash uni student.

But I'll leave that for another day. I just wanted to post to correct one thing.

TS, Monash, easy to get in - yes
Easier course - no

Everyone here says (and I agree, because I have personal experience).

Monash : Easy to get in, but hard to get out [graduate].
Melb : Hard to get in, but have an easier time inside.

Melb U for sure, since it is closer to city center, and your major is commerce, you may have more chances to network with more people, perhaps land a job/intern? Good luck!

For Accounting Firms, the choices are pretty clear, Sunway or UTAR with ACCA will have an advantage over Melb U n CA/CPA.

Like I said,
having a degree and a qualification is two different things.

and a melbourne U commerce student in accounting can take on ACCA (with 9 exemptions),
so does a UTAR student can do CPA, but of course there will be some conversion papers on law and regulations for both boards.

at a degree level, the Melb Uni cert will be more valuable than an accounting degree in UTAR. dont get me wrong.

soemhow i believe a degree form melbourne uni is better than getting acca. ACCA may enable one to secure job in big 4 firm in malaysia, but in developed nation, it is the degree that counts. Most top MNC prefers grad from top uni rather than people will only professional qualification without a degree. The brand name of the uni do carry certain weight in the eyes of recruiter
