hmmm.....if that's the case, then why is there a need to choose Intel only via bios? http://forum.notebookreview.com/7214705-post9986.html considering that fact that if u uninstall powersmart, it'll stay on intel until u change it.

also instead of doing it in the hidden intel menu, how about changing from switchable to discreet from here? http://www.imagebam.com/image/fae0a982795979

Common issues and solutions

Poor 3d performance / PCI-E runs at only x1 not x16. Installing the latest ATI Catalyst drives fixes this. See below:
*
I am also not sure why there is need to make it Intel only. Right now, I am not using PowerSmart, and if I switch to Intel, after reboot, it will still be Intel. No flicker of screen during login too, indicating that it was never using ATI (i believe).

Changing it to Discrete mean only ATI will be running, no more Intel.

Forget about the PCI-E x1, it was old issue, no longer relevant. laugh.gif

cowithgun can confirm about the gpu fan? will gpu fan continuously on if I just switch from the P button?

if disable from bios, gpu fan off? does speedfan work with this acer? or like some ati catalyst app or etc? can see the fan speed from there right?

so all fan speed is controlled by bios. but are we able to view the fan speed from speedfan? then we might be able to see whether gpu fan is on or not right?

on the other hand, i've read somewhere about setting the cooling policy in bios to passive or smth like dat. does that mean that if it's cold enough, fan will turn off? does this affect 2 fans or 1 only? so if gpu is disabled, it wont be hot right?

ya, that is another area which no one can solve yet.. brows.gif

but i can confirm the GPU fan will go OFF after i switch to Intel.

if i switch to ATI, the GPU fan will kick off and then will stabilize based on the temperature..

Don't think can view on the speedfan...

Not the bios, but on the power management policy..

p/s I wonder why they won't do the edge-to-edge screen on 3830TG like what they did to Acer 3935, since its glossy already, might as well go all the way down laugh.gif

i believe kick on u mean. if that's the case, then why oh why do we need to mess with the hidden intel menu in BIOS?

does boot speed have anything to do with graphics? I think it's more on hdd speed right?

where is this power management policy? under control panel or bios? passive means fan off when it's cool enough?

Or maybe can use it to install latest Intel driver? hmm.gif

Click the battery icon, "more power options", "change plans settings", "change advanced power settings", "processor power management", "system cooling policy"..

From Windows description, the passive will reduce CPU speed first before increasing the fan speed, while Active will increase the fan speed before decreasing CPU speed...

Currently, there is no way to control the fan speed using any utility. The only possible way is to mod the BIOS. Anyway, here is how the fan will react based on the temperature of your GPU

so for Malaysia....
1) there's only the 2 versions i posted?
2) is there any newer or different packages?
3) how do i get them to upgrade ram to 4gb?
4) I have to buy from their resellers?

I saw on first page "battery care or battery bar". what's that? dont the normal generic windows have the battery icon already?

1.) The 4820TG has couple revision, from i5 430M->i5 450M->i5 460M->i5 480M (current), 3820TG only i3 380M
2.) Yours should be the latest..
3.) Buy the ram and slot it in?
4.) Nope..

BatteryCare/BatteryBar display more detailed info for the battery...

for RAM, I seen from first few pages that although ram is DDR3, it only runs at 533mhz or something like that?

can explain further? thanks.

Since the Acer only utilizes dual core, it will only support up to 1066MHz RAM, and since its Double Data Rate (DDR), its will actually run at 533MHz x 2 = 1066MHz..

So, if you buy 1333MHz RAM, it will downclock itself and run at 1066MHz, but if the price is same with 1066MHz, better get the 1333MHz...

but by default, the 2gb ram that they give is 1066 or 1333? should I buy back the same to match or diff mhz also can? any disadvantages?

Default, don't know tongue.gif
You can check it using CPU-Z...

Either is fine, it will downclock to match the slowest speed...

Sifu Lee, I have PC3-10700 in CPU-Z SPD tab, is that mean my memory is 1333MHz?
