QUOTE(johnchew91 @ Jan 28 2011, 12:25 AM) How do you update the ati driver for 3820tg??change bios to discrete graphic?? 1. Download Catalyst 11.1 from AMD. Dont install it yet!Do any thread teach us how to update gpu driver?? Or can you explain more details (step by step)?? Thanks 2. Reboot notebook, press F2 to go into BIOS 3. Look for option to switch your Graphic from "Switchable" to "Discrete" 4. Save changes and boot into Windows. Dont be alarm if Windows resolution changed. 5. Install Catalyst 11.1 6. I got error preventing me to install ut using the default installer, so if you experience the same problem, try this: - click start - type cmd - right click on the cmd icon - start as Administrator - go to directory where you have extracted Catalyst 11.1: o cd c:\ATI\Support\11-1_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl\Bin64 o ATISetup -install o Wait till you get back the prompt which indicates that installation is complete 7. Reboot pc, press F2 to go to BIOS 8. Select graphic back to be Switchable 9. Boot into Windows and experience the latest Catalyst and CCC |

4820TG here...yesterday using a fan direct blow my laptop, so it is ok. But damn cold bcos the fan direct blow on my face as well
If not mistaken, there is an fan on left hand side to sink the heat. Perhaps heat sinking cause metal on that portion bcome hot and spread the heat to keyboard ask well. This will happen if i open game which i think graphic card will heavy load. Just borrow a better cooler from friend see how its perfom tonight. I didnt put any cover on the keyboard. Must settle tonite because still in 7 day 1 to 1 exhange. |

Around 70++ without fan when touch on it seem like touch on a person who get fever..when fan swicth to level 3 and direct blow on the heatsinking area, everything is back to normal which is it 60-62'c.Tell us the temperature of both CPU & GPU under load. Can comment on this ? |

It should be warm to touch around the left-top area on keyboard , even if it's 80c. Can comment on this ? Hot to touch and warm to touch is different. One with fever is warm to touch and not hot to touch. The heatsink & fan in the notebook is in such a puny size. It can't dissipate heat as fast as desktop hsf. It is normal that the temperature drops when you blow the air directly. 70c is absolutely normal temperature under load. It's not even a concern. It can't be overheat. Don't panic. P/S Both CPU & GPU are cooled by a puny HSF in 4820TG. It's a good temperature if you have 70c under load. This post has been edited by ALeUNe: Jan 28 2011, 02:15 PM |

I have another laptop which is Acer 5935G with Geforce 130M.. I have problem when updating my geforce driver.. I switched discrete graphic in bios mode.. It works when installing the latest geforce driver provided by their website.. I restarted, then the geforce driver is updated to the latest version. Afterward, I switched back to the switchable graphic in Bios.. I started back windows, the resolution is changed to SVGA/no geforce driver.. It seems like the previous installation of gpu driver in discrete graphic has "GONE" after I switched back to switchable graphic.. Anyone can help me on this?? Sorry, if I have posted this question in wrong section.. This post has been edited by johnchew91: Jan 28 2011, 03:42 PM |

QUOTE(cowithgun @ Jan 27 2011, 10:51 PM) Recommend to upgrade to Catalyst 11.1 Mobility from AMD website. This driver should be more reliable and I get a few more FPS in many recent games. No brightness key lost as well. No temperature increased. A worth while update. i've downloaded and installed the catalyst 11.1 from AMD website but i did not change the bios to discrete before installing. does that affect anything?Make sure you change BIOS to discrete graphic before installing. I had problem using the installer, but installing it using "ATISetup -install" did the trick nicely. I am now using the latest ATI driver and so far, everything work nicely. |

Most people will have problem switching it back to Intel if you did not change to discrete in BIOS. It must be your lucky day. |

Guys, I thought with electronics like phones we need to charge it 8 hours straight the first time we opened it.
But mine, a 4820t, in the Quick Setup instructions, it says 1.Unpack(obviously 2.Insert and lock the battery 3.Connect to the external power 4.Press the power button 5.Make sure the wireless connection is on 6.Follow the onscreen instructions to complete setup So I can use the laptop straight away? No need to wait 8 hours or at least until the battery is full? Many thanks in advance |
